Because of you once I got my bearded dragon I held him a lot and took him out a lot and he started trusting me literally on day 2!! He fell asleep on my finger, and he did that little wiggle that they do to get comfortable. Thank you for your channel!! I think it’s actually smart to hold them a lot when you first get them because as the weeks go by they’re literally learning to live without you.

another myth: "if your bearded dragon's mouth is open it's mad at you" This can be true, but they also use this to help regulate their temperature if they're too hot c: it's similar, in a way, to dogs.
Myth!! Gotta love dragon myths and legends lol. They don't actually absorb anything via their vent. This one was busted by a vet clinic years ago that tested this with blue dye on a dragon that was being euthanized. The dragon was kept in blue water for I believe 24 hours. Afterwards they did a autopsy and found no blue dye penetrated past the skin layer. There's a whole report somewhere online with pictures and everything I'm sure you could find if you looked hard enough for it. Just thought I'd share 😉 otherwise good video! Full of helpful info!
Beardievet here on UA-cam did a similar experiment on video and showed the x-ray and none of the dye went in thru the vent, but the dragon did drink some, which is the only way they will get any water while soaking
They are tripping I always love playing with my lil beardie lol she’s soo used to me and my kids. I don’t know how to leave it alone for a long time lol love it too much 😂
I laughed when you said they normally smell like pretzels! That's just a funny way to describe it! Also, thank you so much for making this video! I'm going to be getting a bearded dragon soon, and it's a good thing for me to know everything I can. The only thing I was worried about was the smell and salmonella, but now I'm not worried anymore! So thank you so much for that! ^^
Great video. I have 3 bearded dragons. One is older she’s at the age where she could go anyway 😢 we rescued her and she had MBD. It only effected her front legs so she couldn’t walk. We nurses her back to health and though her front legs will never heal she can now use her front legs and walk around. Because of that she is in a smaller cage so it’s easier for her to get from one end to the other. My other two are still young, male and female, and I house them together. When they aren’t together they start getting depressed or they freak out. They love living together and they have a very large tank to live in. These aren’t the first two I had housed together. They always were bought as babies and grew up living together and I never had a problem with fights or breeding between any of my past and current bearded dragons.
My dragon is very picky and I don’t know why. From the moment I got him I offer fruits and veggies everyday, and NEVER does he eat them. I’m not offering the wrong things, I’ve done my research but if I do manages to get it in his mouth, he spits it out.
I took my beardie out of her tank a good amount when she was a baby and she is one of the most chill lil critters you've ever seen. it's just about reading the room, if your beardie is clearly not happy being held and looks stressed then let them back in there tank. if they seem chill, then all is good. but ultimately its really important for beardies to learn to be social
Thanks for putting this video together. I was cautious about getting a dragon due to some of the misinformation out there. I recently took the plunge and got my first dragon, about a year old or so, called Sophia from someone who couldn't care for her any more. Picked Sophia up in the evening, let her settle overnight and got her out the next morning. She was fine. Checked her out and realised She was a He, now called Puff. Puff has settled in nicely. He has been feeding fine since I got him. Gave him a bath (which he loved). And he loves getting out and being fussed. Looking forward to seeing how he grows up. Subscribed and liked. Keep the videos coming.
i used to house my beardies together, they had lived together since they were babies because of their pervious owner. they were fine, used to even sleep in the same spot and nestle into eachother but one day my female attacked my male and started fighting with him. as soon as i had enough money i bought 2 nice new vivarium for them and they’re both happier. i think housing your beardies together is fine as long as they get along and just be prepared incase one day they start fighting or something
My beardie looks just like yours I thought he was sick at first so I took him to the vet and nothing was wrong with him it was just how he looks but he’s healthy and happy 😊
8:40 Small sidenote. You're not supposed to mist the tank but the dragon! Just spray a bit of water on his/her's face so she can drink from it that way! Tbh a bath is way better tho, it not only helps them stay hydrated but also helps loosen any stuck shed around the nostrils, toes, tail and mouth!

It’s interesting about the salmonella thing. When i went to get my beardie, the employee told me i couldn’t hold her because she could shave salmonella/ other diseases that i could contract. I was so paranoid every time i held her, my hands started getting dry from washing them so much lmao

Let me start by saying thanks for making this video. There are a lot of people that don't know anything about beardies, and they think they're some kind of vicious lizard which couldn't be further from the truth! A lot of this is spot on. I don't agree with you on a couple things like using sand substrate (I use tile for all 3 of mine), but I wanted to elaborate on a couple things: My vet has repeatedly stated that dragons absorb moisture through their skin. He has specialized in exotic pets like dragons for over 20 years. I think I'll have to go with him on this one. You are probably 100% correct that they absorb MORE through the vent, but that doesn't mean that the former isn't true. Secondly, both of my adult males absolutely LOVE being in the water and having fog in their tanks. It's relaxing for them, and it also helps with shedding. I would lean more towards the prerogative that all dragons have their own personalities, and some may completely hate it, while others (like mine) love it. Thanks, again, for the video! Hopefully it encourages a bunch of people to go out and get a dragon!
Ok question, I just found your channel today, I just watched your video where you mentioned beardies have a third eye. You also mentioned they can absorb water through their scales but in this video you just said that isn’t true? I’m just curious which one it is lol
When I got my bearded Dragon I didn't pick him up until 2 or 3 days later because I just wanted him to get used to me being around him... I did however kind of pet him a bit to get him used to me touching him.
Actually, beardievet here on UA-cam, who is a veterinarian in Australia and researches bearded dragons, did an experiment showing that they actually do not absorb water thru their vent even, they just wind up drinking some while soaking, he used a radioactive dye that they use to highlight veins and check for gastrointestinal blockages on x-ray and soaked the beardie in it for an hour and then did an x-ray and found that the only place the fluid entered was the mouth down to the stomach, nothing around the cloaca/vent, so they don't even absorb water thru their vent, that is a myth in itself
I will say that in my experience over the years with dragons i would also say they arent exactly agressive or mean they are very defensive... at time.. now its been my experience that most bearded dragons are absolutely love able they have got to be hands down one of the most docile lizards any reptile enthusiasts/lover could own. For a beginner reptile that gets fairly big but not tooo big these guys are the BEST. That brings me to what i wanted to say on the topic of their aggression and raising them "not aggressive".. i have had babies that for some reason do not care to be held and some of them never grow out of it. But people have to understand that not every dragon is the same they are like people their personality's differ from dragon to dragon. Now if a dragon always has his mouth open and gives u trouble handling them this doesnt mean they are aggressive or mean it just means they are defensive and its possible you have a dragon that honestly may never let u handle them a lot. And even those hardy ones can get broken in with some time and patience but NOT ALWAYS. And if thats the case you have to try your best to love that animal within its boundaries. And if you deem thats too much for you to do or u cant enjoy them because u cant hold them all the time or ur scared to get bit then you should probably consider giving it up. Good info in this video however i jus wanted to comment on that.
I'm getting a pet for my birthday and I'm trying to decide between rats and a bearded dragon and these kinds of videos are super helpful so thank you. Also your bearded dragon is super cute and seems very well cared for.
My beardie is very picky. I don’t know how old she is, I saved her from being mistreated. I’m still mad about the way she was treated. She didn’t have a heat lamp and they were trying to give her stuff she’s not supposed to eat. She was like half dead, she hadn’t eaten in like 2 weeks (that’s what the people told me) she still throws her little fits sometimes, but overall, she’s so sweet. It scared tf out of me when my sisters beardie who is a male, saw her for the first time.
Hey my aunt had a bearded dragon and it ate sand it sadly died and my cousin instead of sand he uses news paper just to be safe what would you recommend news paper or sand
In the morning, I turn the heat lights on and take her out and put her on my stomach and cover with a blanket to warm her with my body heat, my 9 year old son does the same now and It’s probably Pancake’s favorite part of her routine next to eating :) I recommend trying this as it strengthens your bond when they are a baby.
I think handling really depends on the dragon. Mine is super friendly and we'll just chill for a couple hours, sometimes more. I always make sure she's up by my collar bone so she stays nice and toasty, but other than that she does what she wants. If she showed ANY signs of stress though I'd put her back. :)
I’d recommend joining the Bearded Dragon Owners on Facebook. It’s a huge bearded dragon group. You can really learn a lot & make sure your care is spot on :)
I have an important question!! So my beardies diet, temperature in his cage is fine, but when I take him out he doesn’t run around anymore like he used to, he just... sits there for a whole hour he might even do that. Why??
I’ve had my beardie for a week and I just leave her door open, let her sleep on my bed or in my window sill, and roam around until I go to sleep (obviously I don’t let my beardie roam unattended.) she likes to run fast af up my back and burrow in my hair. I give her baths to make her poop so she doesn’t poop in her enclosure or in my room. I do the same with my bird, but she poops everywhere.
You don't mist your dragon, but you can take a bottle and spray it over their head. It's better than leaving water bowls in the tank, and they will drink it as it falls from their head to their mouths. Most people don't know that most dragons don't naturally drink from bowls, which can be a pain.
William O'Shea Go to a Reptile Expo, I bought a 40 gallon kit for my bearded dragon along with my bearded dragon, mochi, for $200. Expo’s tend to be huge sales. Just remeber to do research and also get insects if you do go to an expo.
My beardie Sitka has sand in his cage after living 3 yrs on a dirty wet sand carpet from the old owner, he looks so much happier on clean sand then that nasty reptile carpet👍🏼
I recently bought a 6 year old dragon, and he is my first reptile. As a baby, he was bought unlicensed to be displayed in a preschool and he had a very rough start to life, he was neglected and not cared for. A lady rescued him and was caring for him but had to sell him as she didn't have the time to care for him anymore. I haven't handled him yet because I want him to get used to his surroundings and I'm also super nervous, could anyone give me any advice on how to handle this situation? He seems pretty calm but I don't want him to flip out once I am holding him. Thanks :)
I absolutely love your videos, and you’ve helped me so much. Would you mind making a video on the little marks they get on their stomach, i just recently got my beardy and she has gotten these
People say the same thing about parrots, don’t take them out for a few weeks because they are in a new environment. But the thing is if they are stressed and they see you walking around not doing anything or making it worse they will associate you with stress. It’s good to open their cage and sit near them, not making them come out but give them the option so that they trust you and associate you with freedom and choices
Bearded dragons are not only desert animals. They come form arid and rocky areas, dry forests and scrublands. But you can find them in deserts as well.
When it's not i do spay mine down and he loves it i also keep a small pool of water in his terrarium. I clean it and add water daily. He'll sometimes go th the bathroom in it right when it's new so I just clean it again and replace the water.
My beardie tries to eat everything! I have to be super carful when I take Oscar outside. I live in a large garden apartment, and we have a stoop on the side of the building where I can sit down and let Oscar get some sun, but after a frightening episode last fall, I make sure he stays on the cement, as there is “grape-sized” gravel between the sidewalk and the building, and not thinking he would actually try to EAT ROCKS! I let him explore and made sure I stayed close to him if he wanted to wander away from the stoop where I sat...sure enough, Oscar, as he was walking around exploring, decided to try to EAT A HUGE ROCK! Luckily I reacted very quickly and, as he was trying to swallow it, I desperately pried his jaws open while I swung him up and down to get the rock out (which probably REALLY pissed him off, as he thought I was “stealing his meal” when I was actually SAVING HIS LIFE!), well luckily the rock finally came out...my fingers were a bit bloody, but Oscar was okay, and I gave him a treat after the whole ordeal. He is very docile, and I know he didn’t deliberately try to bite me, or anyone else. I’ve only gotten nipped a few times while my fingers got to close when giving him a treat. So with Oscar’s habit of eating EVERYTHING (or trying to) I don’t use sand in his enclosure, cause he would probably end up licking it and whatnot. Anyway, Great video!
I didn’t wait two weeks. They told me about a week and when I went back for food they asked how he was doing and if he’s used to his new environment. He was and they told me to try and hold him earlier. I did and still have no issues! Holding him earlier made it easier to take him out and play with him outside of the tank! 💜
My bearded dragon doesn’t stink herself, but the pellets I use for the bottom of her tank do have a smell to them. They have a sweet smell, and it doesn’t smell bad, but I’m just personally not a fan of their smell (they smell like green tea lol). I’m switching her over to repticarpet very soon tho.
What do you use for substrate? Thank you so much I never thought about the toxins that remain in the sand. I have to change it ASAP! I agree with you I hold my baby all the time when I first got her and that’s why she so awesome with us now. My kids were always very gentle and I taught them the right way to take care of her. She hangs out on the couch with us and watch his movies and cuddles with my cats. When we go visit my folks she usually sits on one of my cats in the middle of my kids in the back of the car. All are usually bring is her heat lamp not the UVB for the weekend. In the summer she’s outside all the time with us in the grass but we keep a close eye on her. She gets very dark and her black diamonds shine beautifully in the sun! ☀️🦎
Omgosh I have been going crazy with my daughter reminding her to mist her beardies tank ! Lol glad to know it’s not a necessity since she always gives me a hard time to do it anyway
Sand doesn't even do anything for them. They can't burrow in it, it's just decoration for us basically. They're mostly in the wild on hard packed dirt and clay, something they can actually burrow in.
I'm glad waiting to hold and spend time with them is a myth, my new beardie is really calm and relaxed and his tank is similar to his last one so I think I'm going to hold him tomorrow.
I have my young beardie on walnut shell grounds, for now. My biggest worry about the loose substrate is it will it get in her ears. I see it on the edge of her ears alot and I get it off, but yeah. I dont have fears of impaction.

Awww it sounds like you were meant to get her! Thanks for rescuing her
Taylor’s dragon makes me think of freshly brewed coffee with it’s colors
Hey my aunt had a bearded dragon and it ate sand it sadly died and my cousin instead of sand he uses news paper just to be safe what would you recommend news paper or sand
ROGUE- jay I would recommend newspapers
Im getting a baby bearded dragon tomorrow do you have any baby tips? Like you could do a video for new bearded dragon tips
Love your channel
Lucky! Good Luck !
Lol I just got mine yesterday
Enjoy your new Bearded Dragon remember baby diet is 80% insects 20% veggies
Take them out of their aquarium so you can bond!!
I’d recommend joining the Bearded Dragon Owners on Facebook. It’s a huge bearded dragon group. You can really learn a lot & make sure your care is spot on :)
You're the best oh my god thank you for making this video I completely AGREE. Power to you and your channel girl yessss
I have an important question!! So my beardies diet, temperature in his cage is fine, but when I take him out he doesn’t run around anymore like he used to, he just... sits there for a whole hour he might even do that. Why??
i just got my bearded dragon today and i literally have been holding him most of the day and now he waves at me AND I HAVE ONLY HAD HIM A DAY.
Great vid as always, tell me how long would you recommend a bearded dragon out of the tank?
I’ve had my beardie for a week and I just leave her door open, let her sleep on my bed or in my window sill, and roam around until I go to sleep (obviously I don’t let my beardie roam unattended.) she likes to run fast af up my back and burrow in my hair. I give her baths to make her poop so she doesn’t poop in her enclosure or in my room. I do the same with my bird, but she poops everywhere.
My bearded dragon drinks gulps of water when I change his water 💧
I have a question . Are you suppose to have a heat light , or any light on your beaded dragon cage at night
You can but in the wild I don't think it would constantly be sunny so I turn it off
Yay 20K congrats! And I enjoyed the video!
You don't mist your dragon, but you can take a bottle and spray it over their head. It's better than leaving water bowls in the tank, and they will drink it as it falls from their head to their mouths. Most people don't know that most dragons don't naturally drink from bowls, which can be a pain.
So does that mean no water bowels in the tank because it can cause humidity

My stuff was only$200 for my baby bearded dragon
My beard dragon was only 90 dollers
William O'Shea Go to a Reptile Expo, I bought a 40 gallon kit for my bearded dragon along with my bearded dragon, mochi, for $200. Expo’s tend to be huge sales. Just remeber to do research and also get insects if you do go to an expo.
bruh... I just spent £1000 total on the enclosure and my baby beardie. I’ve spoiled him though hehe
My beardie Sitka has sand in his cage after living 3 yrs on a dirty wet sand carpet from the old owner, he looks so much happier on clean sand then that nasty reptile carpet👍🏼
MrStewie sand mat would be better off in the long run as bearded dragons do lick a lot of stuff and can cause impaction
Would you mind making a video on the little marks they get on their stomach, i just recently got my beardy and she has gotten these
I’m getting one soon but what should I call it?
Cleo or Charlie? ( it’s gonna be a girl )
LoLo BeaR cleo
Lolol I give my beardy kisses and have NEVER gotten salmonella, good to know.
yeah, you can only get it if they're covered in fresh poo. i love kissing my lil girl, she knows how to give kisses back
People say the same thing about parrots, don’t take them out for a few weeks because they are in a new environment. But the thing is if they are stressed and they see you walking around not doing anything or making it worse they will associate you with stress. It’s good to open their cage and sit near them, not making them come out but give them the option so that they trust you and associate you with freedom and choices
Thank you thank you thank you THANK YOU! the water situation and the holding thing was so everywhere when I got Xuksa that I didn't know what to do.
wish i was that bearded dragon.
YASS 20K!!! LOVE YOU!❤️ Btw, it was me who messaged you on Snapchat and asked you if they drank out of there butt! I guess I was right😂
Thanks girl😁😘 I honestly don’t know anymore😂
i was thinking bout getting a bearded dragon, and i think i just might all your videos have been hella helpful. thank you (:
My bearded dragon: eat, sleep, gets pet, repeat
Question Taylor. Do you feed Fitz in her tank or outside of her tank?
try dandelion greens my beardie loves them
Omgosh I have been going crazy with my daughter reminding her to mist her beardies tank ! Lol glad to know it’s not a necessity since she always gives me a hard time to do it anyway
loved your video im a new owner of a bearded dragon and im glad I watched this, thank you
Sand doesn't even do anything for them. They can't burrow in it, it's just decoration for us basically. They're mostly in the wild on hard packed dirt and clay, something they can actually burrow in.
Thanks for the advice FYI you are the best🌟🌟
I'm glad waiting to hold and spend time with them is a myth, my new beardie is really calm and relaxed and his tank is similar to his last one so I think I'm going to hold him tomorrow.
I heard something about how beaded dragons can’t have mealworms but that is obviously false
This was posted on my b-day.
Also, 800th comment.
“I don’t know Fitz usually smells like pretzels”
I WANT A BEARDED DRAGON THAT SMELLS LIKE PRETZELS
If you force feed would they be raised agresife because my Bearded doesn’t eat
I have my young beardie on walnut shell grounds, for now. My biggest worry about the loose substrate is it will it get in her ears. I see it on the edge of her ears alot and I get it off, but yeah. I dont have fears of impaction.
One of my lizards was very stressed when I got him so I waited a few days. He was always trying bite me and puffing his beard out .
My vet recomended that you let the beardie in the tank for one or two days, so they adjust. You can pet them and so, but just let them get adjusted
I just recently subbed to you and, I love your videos already!! 💞
Taylor I recently fed my bearded dragon superworms and he liked them much better than crickets and wont go back to crickets, is this okay for my bearded dragon
All 3 of my Beardies eat Superworms and occasionally Dubia roaches
Okay thank you I was making sure he would be healthy if he had these
@@jennifershuey8201 No problem, enjoy your Beardie!!!!!!!
I will!!
Larry santacrose where do you get the roaches? Do you order them online? I haven’t seen any at my local pet shop.
Thanks for the video! I am adopting a bearded dragon soon, and this video helped a lot!
What type of peppers do you use?
