Me and my dad used to work on cars together. He taught me the mechanical side when I was a kid. Then I left school and became a panel beater. 😩 32yrs later I’m still repairing cars and still loving it. Just wish my dad was here too, he passed away 3yrs ago. Watching you two is very enlightening for me and the content is fantastic. Keep it up 👍 👍👍👍👍
So good to see all the detailed work ( with the more repetitive stuff sped through!! And no portly car buyer (WD) or would be comedian ( SOS) getting in the way!! just a couple of guys who really know what they are about. Great, looking forward to seeing the finished Mini
My dad taught me most of what I know about cars , mechanical side . Sadly he’s no longer here. I think it’s great how you get to do this project with your Dad :) cherish every moment mate 👍
@@leer798 absolutely right there bud. I miss my dad more than anything and I’m sure you do too. They’d want us to be happy tho. Life has got to go on. 👍
Aside from the project, which is brilliant, I'd just like to acknowledge all the effort you put into the filming and editing to give us such high quality videos.
G'day, Gee your dad puts in a hard day's work. This Mini when finished will certainly be a family heirloom and have pride and place in your lounge room. Anyhoo thanks for sharing guys. ✌️ from Melbourne Australia.
Excellent service. My wife bought a cuppa out to the shed for me yesturday. I have been repairing my daughters car which was backed into a pole. Just at the right time nice.
Great to see you and your dad working together on this project, I passed my driving test in a Mini 850 pick up, with a few bricks in the back , mmm a bit noisy when I had to do the emergency stop and they hit the back of the cab 🫣😂 I’m looking to the next video
Absolutely fantastic watching you and your Dad, building this mini. What a job truly a pair of professional restorers. Thanks for filming it all cannot wait for the next parts to come out. Want to buy another mini. Regards! Lee from Liverpool.
Thanks for the name check when I made a suggestion as to what to do with the mk 1 shell 😊 I’ve just thought of an even better idea (maybe other have said the same ?) but why not reconstruct that rusty Mk 1 into a Mk 2 ? I know a couple of very skilled people who have done it the other way round ;)
Good work gentlemen! These old cars dont give up their bits and pieces for free do they?! Lots of tedious work, but necessary…. Thanks for these videos.
Ok, so now I know what cant rails are! What a lot of work and what sticklers for authenticity you are!! Amazing; almost makes me wish I still had my '63 Mini Van...
Good stuff..... I used to use a wooden handle gasket scraper off snap on as it is thin to chop off panels.... And the wooden handle rivets through the scraper so it was strong too.... Used to tape handle with insulating tape to start with...... Keep up the good work.. look forward to each video 👍👍👍
Well Done guys great work, you’re doing an unbelievable conversion there with no compromise on the detail. I was a bit confused why you were replacing a the spot welds with plug welds? I’m back playing catch up with you again, I like to binge watch my favourite channels so back with your good selves again for a few evenings. Take Care Stay Safe Everyone Regards,Dave 👍😎🏴
Hi Kieth, thanks for that 👍 it’s nice to have your comment. Yeah we definitely intend on investing in a spot welder in the future but we don’t have the electrics to power it at the moment. The plug welding works find for now though. I’m enjoying your channel updates 😁👍, I’m a bit behind at the moment though, some catching up to do. Regards Mark.
Are you still looking for ideas for the donor shell? How about raising the roof 6ft and turning it into a caravan? You could sleep with your heads in the engine bay and prop the bonnet up on clear nights for a spot of star gazing...
The Mk1/2 ones are different from the later Mini ones, the way the headlining mounts is different. They're going for full authentic mk1 conversion, so the cant rails need to be changed.
Great work you guys , but why don't you invest in a good quality spot welder , you will find it most useful , neater and a time saver in not having to clean up the welds ...😁😁😁
I would have just cut the roof off and worked on the roof upside down on a bench and removed any other panels from the shell you will need, saving a lot of time. I know that you will be able to save the second shell and make something from it , but is it worth the time that you could be spending on rebuilding the MK1 shell?
It’s mostly car related channels apart from the odd one, Colinfurze. Urchfab, Retro Power, VGG, MCM, Home Built By Jeff, Harry’s Garage, Soup Classic, Binky. Apologies for the delayed reply. Cheers 😁👍
OK OK , I know you love welding but WHY remove perfectly good spot welds and replace with plug welds ME CONFUCIUS. and stop being mean to your dad you get ear defenders, and he doesn't even get and apron to stop the sparks setting fire to him :))
Love the wonderful father son relationship you guys are modeling! Lost my Dad a little while back, helps me to see you 2 doing it right.

The best part is to see dad and son working together. Heartwarming!
it is more than about the car... father and son project. Both a great to follow.
Well you lads have been busy; it's nice not to have to wait so long in between episodes.
Ah thank you, I’m not sure how long we’ll be able to keep up a weekly episode but we’ll definitely do our best 😁👍
Top job
Glad to see you're back! I had not realised there was still so much plug welding to do. :)
Thanks for another video quickly after the last one. Great progress.

Brilliant. Thanks again for an enjoyable few minutes!
It’s amazing the differences with the Mk1 & 4 shells. Fair play for having the patience to convert this shell
nice work chaps...thanks.
You two are really working it hard with all that hard work, (I know just how hard it is)...
You're literally creating a family heirloom and a unique treasure.

"Cant" wait to see the rails going in! 🤣🤣🤣 Cheers. Leigh. PS: mind & weld up the rear quarter seams on the top of the b-pillars!

Good teamwork there lads, that was a pain to get out that cant rail. Multiple cups of hot splosh and beer helped the situation though. 👍

Great stuff fellas always enjoy watching your progress. I take it the donor shell is now scrap? Seems a shame if it is.
Have you thought of an air-chisel , would save you a lot of work and time. Great work guys,
Ah good point, there’s one on the shelf, will have a go using it on the other side.

Is your mk2 shell for sale?
why plug weld ?so many good edges that would take a spot welder
Hello chaps, can I ask what is the reason for swapping the cant rails?
The Mk1/2 ones are different from the later Mini ones, the way the headlining mounts is different. They're going for full authentic mk1 conversion, so the cant rails need to be changed.

I know it's premature but have we thought about colour?..60s colour perhaps
Hi Chaps , what make was that spot weld drill bit ? even keeping ours lubed up only seem to last 80 - 100 times
Wouldn’t it have been easier to roll/fab the long runs in new steel and just cut the corners and maybe the pillar gussets out of the old shell?
Lads, what UA-cam channels do you watch? Not necessarily car channels.
