$680 Budget Armor Loadout - Eagle + Hesco

- Lucas Botkin goes over a budget plate carrier loadout. And once again: training beats gear.
Eagle SFLCS + Hesco L210s + TREX ARMS Plate Backers + Paraclete/SORD/Eagle pouches + Safariland USP SLS Holster
Training vs. Reality: Is there a replacement for real world experience? No... But strenuous and dynamic training is the next best thing. E.g. MMA is not street fighting, but no one thinks it’s a good idea to have few beers then get spicy with the guy who has cauliflower ear.
He’s prob not a white belt
Stress testing and stress training is probably the main component and reason for most training. It teaches you how to adapt, maintain calmness, and think as clearly as you can under pressure as well as maintaining dexterity and control; as dexterity and control are usually the first things you tend to lose when under stress and in hi pressure situations. So gaining the confidence as well as ability in those situations is the main thing that can come out of most training. But also what works best for you as well

I'd love to see an Ebay Warrior series. Just cuz stuff is older and cheaper doesn't make it bad, that with your suggestions really helps with affordable kit set-ups.
This!
I know he was joking about the old ALICE stuff but you can get pretty good surplus for dirt cheap! And I would bet that you can sew or even just weave together some pretty sick Frankenstein setup with decent ebay things and surplus.
Why shouldn’t civilians be able to protect their families and loved ones to whatever capacity required? Thank you for all that you do in the civilian space! We need more minutemen like you!

Just a heads up those plate carriers usually have a second plate pouch inside the main plate pouch to keep the plate from bouncing around inside and to separate it from the soft body armor that was typically used in conjunction with the rifle plates. You can also add a cummerbund, thats what the big slot on the back is for.
Lucas is getting nutty with the media strategy. I like.

Those mag pouches are doubles, you shove the second mag in behind the first one, not in front of it…but that duct tape definitely makes it harder to both index and draw.
Ebay gang where ya at?
The fact that this dude is willing to add time to his video in order to address even a simple and fairly unimportant mistake like not knowing USP's have a decocker is why I watch this channel.
I know I’m late to the game here, but those rifle mag pouches we run in the Corps. You have to put the second magazine behind the first or you’ll never get it in. I usually tuck my flaps in the pouch so the mags are friction retained and still accessible.
Happy 4th of July from Czech republic! 🇨🇿🇺🇸
Thx bud. Much love from America
Lucas, screw the people giving you shit man. Keep it up, you're getting people into a hobby and giving them fundamentals that sets a solid base for future training. God bless you and the family. Stay up, G
Don't sweat not remembering everything about your guns. While I may not have as many guns as you have access to, I do have quite a few, and remembering how each of them operates and the disassembly/assembly procedures for them all is actually pretty tough to do once you get a good collection going. That's why I rely on UA-cam videos such as yours to re-remind me of things I have long since forgotten. As for the Cordura Mag Pouches, remember, the plate carrier is used and it was exposed to weather etc... If you force the mags in and let them sit for a bit, you will find that they will likely loosen up the pouches so that 2 mags will easily fit in each. In other words, they shrank and you need to stretch them back out a bit. Thanks for well-detailed video and keep them coming.
Add a paint can opener to the kit, allows you to get spent jammed casings that don’t eject and are jam into the chamber. Works better than knife and multi tool. Can retain with string or paracord to your molle.
This kit sit up is giving me huge flashbacks to my early days in the Australian army, things have certainly improved since
Dump pouch “in true Australian fashion” - is that a kangaroo reference? 😂
Yeah plus Australian SOCOMD operators run their kit like that. The kangaroo dump pouch is actually there to hide erections according to a former 2CDO operator. Bc the boys would get stiffies before ops and afterwards, would conceal the package behind the dump pouch before heading to the porta John to chop that wood.
Old-school safariland love it!. I remember when I was issued a ssiii for my 1911. Got the gun stuck in the holster for 20 mins before I figured out how the system worked. Once I had it down it was probably the fastest level 3 holster that was legit triple retention for the time. Love their stuff but I agree about the fabric especially on the 6280s
Wouldn’t it help not wear on the guns finish as much ? And what about modern holsters from them now ?
LOL Lucas you should totally do a ALICE rig I have a lot of it from growing up as a kid in a military family and I was in the woods with my father, uncles and older brothers all the time and they taught me everything They know, it’s awesome kit and doesn’t break the bank.

My deal with tactical reloads is I'd want the gun up and running before I'm messing with the mag going into a dump. My two cents. Always a fan of the content! Super useful data and info here.
What we always did with those folding pouches was tuck the flap behind the magazine so you wouldn’t have to pull it
I remember someone saying or maybe I read it somewhere “soft men create hard times. Hard times create hard men, hard men create good times. Good times create soft men.”
Food for thought.
What you said reminds me of a passage from King Arthur, which I'll paraphrase: "When Arthur gathered his knights about him, once the realm had been made peaceful, they formed a council at the Round Table, and the old knights who had fought for the peace devised certain games, resembling combat, for nothing grows rusty like a plowshare or an idle sodier. The veterans, who had been to the campaigns, were keen to play these games, while the younger men, who had not been participants in real combat, did not love the games."
it's not food for thought. it's a nonsense quote promoting mochoism.
24:11 you use the decocker, apparently without knowing it had one 😂 I’d say that’s a good demonstration of effective training.
He uses a few times later in the video so I'm guessing he figured It out at some point and didn't say anything about it when on the range
"A good kit violently executed now, is better than a perfect kit executed next week." - General George S. Patton (probably)
Tip: you can tuck the mag flap (old mag pouches) in for faster reload, if it’s a situation where you know where you’ll be reloading quickly. Otherwise flap over means reloading in a unprepared situation.
Haha yea, USP decocker is just like a Makarov. Love the vid. I love the old Eagle Industries stuff. I have a couple MAR-CIRAS Carriers that are still some of my top favorites, right behind my First Spear Strandhogg Mbav. That Eagle Industries stuff is just so bulletproof and well built.
The front dump pouch and clip cummerbunds makes me think maybe this was an Aussie SF rig, or at least an impression kit
Outstanding vid bruh. Good to see you run older gear and you did pretty good for a young whippersnapper..lol Love your vids and stuff mate. Thanks for you vids.
Hey , i think you should turn this into a series , you could up the budget every video , in my opinion if you do this , you could teach everyone who has a certain type of budjet by posting each video of different budjet , i hope you could turn this into a series as it is one of my favourite video :)
My first pistol was a USP 45 and I had the same issue with proprietary light mount, I keep it cause it was my first and I enjoy shooting it from time to time, but it was a learning experience for sure. I managed to find an adapter for 1913 to mount a light but it won't fit a holster without modding.
Speaking of learning experiences, that set up looks like my airsoft kit from way back (except the crotch killing dump pouch lkl)...that strap vs cummerbund and chest mounted holster are things Im glad I figured out back then and ingrained good interferences checks on everything anytime I change even a single thing on gear.
Picked up a UCP camo plate carrier from Blackhawk for $133 on sale back well over 12 years ago. It was made in 2007. Still have it today and still rocking it. I just had to get everything else in UCP camo tho lol but it's all good. Good for urban environments and Canadian winters.
Sometime having a basic PC with armor and pouches to carry your stuff is all you need. It might not seem like much but in 2022 with all of this talking about a potential WW3 and seeing civies in Ukraine with nothing but homemade bottles as weapons, having the least amount of tacticool gear is something to be grateful for. Heck even if it's airsoft grade, it's better than nothing.
My old school condor ive rocked for years love it
When STHF, Lucas may shoot the fastest, but will certainly be the slowest in getting that plate carrier on... lol. Love ya sir; keep up the good work.
The crazy part is that Lucas can probably outshoot more than half of the people that are not a civilian and are so called “warriors” 😂 I love it! Lucas you’re a beast my guy!

Per your comment at 10:44, I do 100% want to see you make a video about ALICE gear. There are thousands of people who are using it and it’s cheap and durable. Even if we’re only buying them to set up as backup or “give away” rigs, they’re still seeing a lot of use.
Beautiful video 🙏🏻
So I got an old M9 level 2 safariland holster on ebay about a week ago and been working it a bit. Not too bad. I need to check this kit out. You're a beast for running the pistol on your plate carrier like that.

Real quick life hack brother. When you load your mag pouches, push the first magazine forward and use it to open the mouth of the pouch, then insert the second magazine towards your body. I have very familiar experience with those mag pouches lol

Some background on that carrier. Australian SF and some diggers purchased their own carrier in the early first decade of the Afghan war as issued gear was especially shit at the time. I haven't seen anyone outside of old reservists and gelsoft/cosplayers run that gear now. Most of the pouches will eithrt be eagle industries, sord, platatac or ADA i would wager.
Ok maybe you well know maybe not, any idea why Aussie SF dudes have a rubberband attached to the trigger guard and wrap around the magazine on their M4A5s?
@@mrcookiethief2128 i have seen one specific photo from a google search where that is done. The sidearm was also retained in the bladetech with a rubber band. My guess is it is a little more retention to stop the handgun or magazine being bumped and falling out during airborne or rapid vehicle ops. Only a guess though, never seen that done before.
Its a pretty legit setup for AUS SF in AFG late 2000s. Correct on the rubber band answer, though i always thought it was a bit over the top
It looks like the previous owner removed the cumberbund, which is more common if a person is living in the armor. We used to have 15 hour missions, so we might be wearing armor for 17 hours, and some people out there had it much worse than us. A little loss in stability was a small sacrifice in desert heat. We were not running much, and when there is reason to run you hardly notice your stuff bouncing around a little. Just grab the straps and pull it tighter when you get a chance. I never removed my bund, but I did fold it out of the way sometimes.
Now I'm enjoying life in Texas where it is nice and cool.
Those Eagle mag pouches are supposed to be double, but they only really become useful as doubles when they're really worn in. The marine corps struggled with this when they moved to PMAGs when a lot of units still had the old Eagle double pouches in common use.
They have a standardized procedure for soaking and stretching the pouches for use with PMags. Can probably still find the video Gunz had made.
@@jamesbridges7750 just the like Marines. Can't afford new equipment, so jury-rig the old

I have an old Eagle carrier as well as an offbrand that I ran for a few years on a local Tac Team. Both look similar to the one you got off Ebay. You should be able to life that back panel on each side and slide in cummerbund under it with velcro attachments.
38:21, I felt that ...
I was a Marine, now a civilian there is no difference between us as long as we hold the same morals and fight for the same beliefs. Let us stand side by side all as Warrior's.
Ahmen brother. We're all going to need each other.
It’s definitely a pain in the ass weaving through laser cut molle webbing lol
definitely. I use the lever(proper term?) of a set of nail clippers to guide the strap through the loop so the button doesn't snag. makes it alot easier.
My personal opinion is that someone should get a good war/battle/duty belt and standalone armour. Its budget friendly, makes armour optional per AO, and can also be combined with a budget chest rig for an extra few rifle mags.
But to each their own. Us lowly civvies have to spend our own money on kit, we dont get to spend the taxpayer dollars on gear.
Lucas, quick tip with those mag pouches, insert the second mag behind the first. Those are double mag pouches, and when I used them in Iraq they were always a pain to try to insert in the front.
Thanks
Also for the Map Pack Molle Pack mounted on the rear panel of the PC, could mod it with either zip ties and/or more molle by somewhat rolling it up a bit so its not's hanging over the bottom end of the PC.

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but for the Eagle mag pouches you need to insert the 2nd magazine behind the first one for it to fit
