For what you are trying to do (go fast) the 883 is the wrong bike. But at 58, I've outgrown the fast thing, and can no longer deal with the riding position of a crotch rocket. I love my 883. I put some V&H Short Shots on it, and it is great for riding around locally on rural roads. In fact it's the most fun bike I've ever ridden. I love the look, the sound, and the vibration. It is after all a MOTORcycle, and motors are supposed to make noise and vibrate. Before the 883 I had a Royal Enfield, and it was also a great ride, unfortunately the quality was VERY bad, and it started falling apart after about 10,000 miles. The 883 is light years ahead in quality, I suspect it will last forever being ridden around at 55-60 mph, which seems to be it's sweet spot, where it sounds and feels just right.
I had and 883 and decided to increase the top end by installing a front belt drive pully by one tooth and it did make a difference. The loss of low speed torque was bare even noticeable.
Awesome video. I feel your pain on those bumpy roads. The dealership installed a lowering kit on my Iron just so I could reach the ground comfortably (I'm 5'). The ride is rough but I love my 883 anyway. She has V&H slip ons (just cause I like the look more that short shots), stage 1 air breather, Eagle pro race tuner (just months before HD whimped out, whew!), and next week she's getting a screaming eagle 1200 conversion kit. If I were a better rider, my little Iron could probably give a lot of bikes a nice run. She and I shine on Snake Road and Round Top Drive though. 110s may beat us on a straight away but we leave them in our dust on the narrow and winding. And no worries about scraping your pegs. Just lift your foot! lol. Ride it like you stole it!
You're more worried about everyone else than you are the ride. Riding for others will get you killed, get out of your head and on your bike. We don't ride for other people.
Embrace the Iron. You're not supposed to keep up with sport bikes- it's on them to look as cool as you. On the other hand, it's a lot more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow. Me? I'm torn between an Iron 883 or a Triumph T100.
john birmingham yeah I only did this little race for fun haha. anyways, I love this bike alot. it's so much fun. both of those are awesome choices, try checking out the Harley 48 as well. good luck!
your bike sounds bad ass, and the wind noise wasn't even bad it was great audio I heard you clearly even when the bike was screaming trying to keep up with that 600. perfect ratio between voice and that awesome machine👌. keep up the good work.
Harley is all about the look brother. Perfect bike to go downtown and crack open a cold one with the boys, enjoy the scenery. A lady friend on the back will feel slightly safer too, as opposed to showing up with a CBR 1000 lol.
I love that the sporster is still air cooled .the new bike's look fked with rads hope S&S keep's building the EVO & RVO's for chopper and bobber build's
97 mph 4 gear before hit rev limiter on my 883 hell yes it keep up. Don't by a low if you want nice ride on pot holes and that can turn corners. Have fun be safe.
I installed the V&H NO2 intake, have high flow V&H exhaust, then installed Fuel Pak 3. Flashed the bike. Have more power through the entire rev range and raised the rev limit. Made the bike a whole lot more fun. Next, looking at installing biltwell keystone handlebars. Mustang solo seat has been replaced with Biltwell solo seat.. much smaller and shows a lot more rear fender. If you want more go fast and popping from exhaust replace that stock intake.
The Vance and Hines Fuelpak 3 is $400 from Revzilla. But ordering it from Amazon is about $100 cheaper. The bluetooth sync with your phone is really cool, can give you real time info for fuel mileage and engine stats. Download the app for your phone, you can play with the features and see the options in a demo mode. Agreed on that seat. Its very comfortable when riding, like a leather cloud for your butt. When stopped and straddling the bike its about 3 inches too wide. I kept mine. For long rides, where I know I will only be stopping for gas I will use that seat, short rides that seat doesn't work very well.
mopman311 well I may just order it soon, how much of a difference in power will I see if I get that and the air cleaner do you think? I will definitely give my seat a try and see if it's okay or not.
I don't have the stats on the power difference. Butt feel, its quite noticeable. With the stock seat installed wide open throttle from 2nd gear up will easily slide you all the way back in the seat. With the small solo seat that I have installed I've had to back off how hard I accelerate.. cause staying planted isn't doable. The RPM range is increased, throttle response is better, and power is increased through the RPM range.. there is no more power fall off at high RPM. Before installing the kit I could feel the power drop and knew to shift.. without that feel I have pegged the rev limiter a few times. Going wide open throttle is a ton of fun now. The 883 won't ever be a street bike, but with the high flow exhaust, high flow intake, and fuelpak 3 it makes the 883 what I should have been from the factory. What I found after I installed was that my clutch started slipping. The RPM would rev high and the bike wouldn't accelerate accordingly. Looked up instruction on how to adjust the clutch lever and the engagement pad. The clutch was far too loose.. wasn't even close to Harley recommended settings. I will be upgrading my clutch pack soon. I mention that just as a caution. Double check your adjustments before making the mods.
Damon here's another example of what I don't like about harleys..." the way it should of been from the factory " folks gotta change almost everything ( at huge expense ) to get decent performance out of it...other manufacturers, no!
Dude - GLOVES ARE MANDITORY ! Thanks for posting great video. It's fun ripping around with you. I guess this is an older video- but popped up for me to watch....cant resist a bike video. You complain of it being a little slower than ya want - maybe consider an engine upgrade. Ya can resleave that one to a 1200...... ain't cheap but doable..... cheers
Yeah bro, you dress for the fall, not for the ride. I wear full gear all the time. If you ever go down, you'll know it. You'll appreciate all your gear when you go down at +60mph. Ask me how I know.
gohachi back in 02' I T-boned a donkey up on Mt Charleston in Las Vegas, Nv at 70 MPH, only think I was wearing was, fingerless gloves, jeans, T-shirt, boots, and a leather vest, riding a 98' HD Classic UltraGlide, totaled the bike but personally had very little injuries, bruised left butt cheek, and a scratch on my left arm, donkey didn't fair so well! He/she didn't get up 😢
Passed that CRX like whoa! Keep it up bro at the rate your going you will pass me in sub counts in no time. I am going to just pen somthing in to the calendar for a dual vlog i'm done pushing it off we are way over due. If your reading these comments tell us what you want to see in the vlog. Burnouts in the dirt, raceing, or all of the above etc... #JUSTDOIT! :)
I have the 1200 conversation with V&H grenade air intake and V&H short shots. Do you have a 1200 conversation??? I know I love it!! It's a huge upgrade!!! Yes I got a screaming Eagle tuner toooo.
Rock both, '90 Evo XLCH I've loved for 20+ years and a '11 fxdb 96 twincam, and ride them both about equal the street Bob is pretty and fast but I don't think that I will ever part with my good old sporty it's just too much fun, 11 inch shocks and forward controls Very comfortable with the stage 2 it's plenty quick enough for me, I'm 6 ft 0 & 180 lbs it seams to fit me fine
Bah ride with the gear you want! It's your health, I've never in my life until these last few years have I heard soany people tell me what I should and shouldn't wear on my bike. Sorry fuckers I didn't know you paid for my bike and passed the endorsement test for me as well.
Wth did that have to do with my comment? In the USA you need only a helmet and in some states not even that so........get bent and go tell someone else how to live there life
LOL, get a set of pipes and use the throttle more, my 883 low is stock other than a set of vance and hines short shots, it still probably would not have a chance against him, but its a lot more peppy than that. Still tops out at 110 though, time for a big bore kit. Oh and grinding pegs is FUN!
sounds exactly like me!! I can't wait until I get the big bore kit. what one are you going for? also I'm thinking about raising my bike up a few inches in back to help with scraping. whatcha think??
I am going to a 1250 on my daily rider and raising the rear a bit I think, maybe some progressive springs and better shocks later. The old bike a 90 883 sportster is going to go nuts, probably a 100+ inch kit much like the I think it is 124 inch one that is on you tube from europe. One kept somewhat tame and reliable and on that is flat nutz.
If you have no friends, buy a cruiser. If you have friends with cruisers, buy a cruiser. If you ride in mixed company, you're gonna have to get something else.
Is all good man, U are on a bike that is a totally different ride than a sports bike, shouldn’t be so hard on yaself dude, is all bout the love of ridin’ & bein’ out on the road on ya bike stackin’ up the miles!!!
i've been riding harleys for 10 years now, and gloves and a jacket aren't necessity to fit in or whatever. that's what yuppies who've never ridden harleys tend to think and go the whole nine yards with them. many old bikers wont hesitate to hop on with a t-shirt and no gloves and go for a ride.
well you don't want to burn your ankle on the exhaust lol and if you can invest in something like Kevlar pants because jeans will rip instantly in an accident
Well, If they go over 110 they will leave me behind... but so far I have had no trouble keeping up or passing them. Of course we are not in a race every inch of the highway. I could get the 1275 kit and run nitro for the ones who want to go title for title on the bikes. That is when I'll wonder if they can keep up :)
The older sportys ya could bore out to 1200 cc & go for a 10:1 piston, head work & cam . I would prefer a hot sporty to throw around over a heavy horse any day.
Lol I gotcha. My helmet is a Speed and Strength one... not sure exactly what one it is.. My camera is a GoPro Hero 3 black edition and I have the Sony ECMCS3 Mic!
Do a video one day. You are good at it. Showing positioning of camera and mic inside helmet etc. It is good content too. Thanks for taking the time to reply btw. ;) Keep up awesome work
lol i have that same bike in the same color except i have the front fairing and the fz6r is the econo version of the fz6. i think it has like 15 less hp
so hold on... I wear only the helmet and jacket with shell n protection and just because the social and the trend says " your not cool or fit" I'm not a professional rider? ah! ah! I hate the boots and I only wear the glove in winter! i' m still wearing the top important gears... jeans jacket/shell & helmet! "The professional" is the rider that actually knows how to ride! thinks when in traffic and prevent accidents by paying attention to all drivers and the road! You can have all the professional gear you want but its the rider that makes a professionalist.
Man that jacket has to be hot- I have a textile with the liner inside, without the liner its like Im wearing nothing cept the jacket also has the armor padding
cant keep up with anything but they get 45+ mpg!! its sad but that is honestly the only reason i got an xl883. commuting on my hayabusa was killing my wallet
The way to NOT grind your pegs is to get yer behind half off the seat and get a knee out. Then the bike is more upright but the weight is inside of the turn. But, get gloves. I'm an idiot, but even I would rather squid a t-shirt than no gloves. Your hands and head and knees and behind will find the pavement if you ride rubber side up. The main limit on a bike is the rider and his skills. This is real biker. And he's on a Harley. Give the video 40 seconds. And the drift at 48 sec is sumptin. ua-cam.com/video/BFzhc3i0PRY/v-deo.html
Doesn't make you look "unprofessional" who gives a shit what anyone wears when they ride. I actually really fuckin dislike those kinds of people, as if they really give a shit about your safety and what you wear. Whats the point of riding some sweet ass bike if you aint lookin bad ass on it. Me personally, I have a good balance of "cool" gear and safety... Don't gotta be all bright green vested out n shit lol fuckin stupid lol but to each his own... ride how ever the fuck you wanna ride.
kentstank that's as if your relating back to the helmet law, which only let's people put them self in danger if they want to do so. me saying that about being unprofessional is my personal opinion and how I view what I wear.
@kentstank: Why count on dying? Just saying I'd prefer my odds wearing ATGATT. I don't care for it and as a female I would prefer to look cute rather than Miss safety. Of course riding a motorcycle isn't the safest thing in the first place. I just want to be seen by psycho driver's so I go overboard with my gear and armor. Still though, why not wear the basic protective gear? (Not you personally) I get what you mean though. Everyone has to put in their two cents, but should leave out the name calling and what not.
TheAlienBeard: I feel like I'm being messed with... They're obviously no sport bike but the torque, gearing and weight distribution makes for a bike that's light and maneuverable for city riding and an absolute joy on the highway. I'm specifically speaking of the 103ci with the 6 speed trans. I'm sure that prior Dyna models are pretty close to as good also.
Maxwell Actual now I never said it wasn't good or wasn't fast. compared to sport bikes of course it isn't going go win. I made this video for fun though, not to make a point or prove anything about either bike.
TheAlienBeard I'm sorry I don't think I was very clear. I was talking about the Dyna family of HD bikes, they're nimble for their size and they have incredible pick-up even at highway speeds due to the high torque. The sportsters are super cool but very limiting it seems like to me. Test ride a couple Dynas I'd love to hear your opinion coming from a sportster owner.
Doom Guild are you talking about me? I've never went down personally but know people who have went down and ended up with their skin hanging from their hands.
For what you are trying to do (go fast) the 883 is the wrong bike. But at 58, I've outgrown the fast thing, and can no longer deal with the riding position of a crotch rocket. I love my 883. I am just in love with that sound! Great, deep sound :) especially the idle! Is that a general Harley thing og a unique sound to the 883? :)
BOOTS!. GLOVES!. JACKET.! HELMET.! JEANS.! RIDE SAFE!
ya man "boot's"I got hit with boots on in nov and it saved my foot.still can't walk
meh. alright. meh. always. meh. done

I'm on a 883 making sport bike guys wonder how the fuck is he keeping up?
It is fun..
Ah dude both are cool. My buddy got a T100. Sad he moved, almost 2 hours away.
The good thing is he moved 2 hours away, rides to go see him are fun.
You can convert 883 into a 1200 , that is what i want or else i just buy a 48
I could never keep up with groups, by the time I got to the location everyone else had a beer in hand waiting on me.
that sound is something else! 🤘
Hey how's it going? I enjoy all your videos keep them coming. I'll get me an iron this coming February. can't wait
It's going well! How are you?
Thank you for liking the videos man!
Also Let me know when you get it! I wanna know if you like it as much as I do!
I like how he uses half the throttle and jokes about not keeping up. You got to Jack it back bro. You babying it.
It's not about keeping up. Enjoy your ride and have fun
your bike sounds bad ass, and the wind noise wasn't even bad it was great audio I heard you clearly even when the bike was screaming trying to keep up with that 600. perfect ratio between voice and that awesome machine👌. keep up the good work.
Thank you so much man! I really appreciate the feedback. And yes.. I was sure trying my hardest to catch up to that dang 600XD
"This Guys Awesome!!!" Haha that great feeling when you have a ride buddy.
ABW exactly:D
TheAlienBeard great vids man. If your ever in Australia hit me up we'll go for a cruise 👌🏻
Harley is all about the look brother. Perfect bike to go downtown and crack open a cold one with the boys, enjoy the scenery. A lady friend on the back will feel slightly safer too, as opposed to showing up with a CBR 1000 lol.
Angry Medic you are right man, but I do like to go fast every mks and again with this bad boy;)
fantastic vid man, the quality is amazing. You've probably already answered this a million times but what's your camera setup?
Actually haven't that much! I am using the GoPro hero 3 black edition!
I think you're shifting too soon man. 883 makes the bulk of it's horsepower near the redline so wind it out more before shifting.
I love that the sporster is still air cooled .the new bike's look fked with rads hope S&S keep's building the EVO & RVO's for chopper and bobber build's
Me too, I absolutely love the look of this bike.
+TheAlienBeard Have one! Respect
Thank you man! how much are flashes anyways?
And yeah I am thinking about returning this seat for a solo seat as well, mustang seat is too large.

You're doin' okay, Bud. Upgrade to a 1200 Sportster some day, put at least a stage one kit on her and you WILL be keeping up.;)
Good video m8
Thank you asdfkjasfbewakfjdska !
Harley wheelies are not dumb sir , they are pretty awesome

8000$ bike and no gloves xD ? WHY ?
You kept up just fine!
Are you one of those dudes that are just so fucking cool that you must ride with one hand 99.9 percent of the time?
Philthy Phil uhhh.... yeah pretty much!
I one hand it on straight aways. Just more comfortable. Not on turns.
How do you like the 883? Really considering this bike as my first bike.
You're finally wearing a jacket! LOL. Now you just need a nice pair of gloves. :)
Haha I would wear a jacket more except it stays so dang hot down here and I hate being that hot!!
Haha! Then maybe you should move to cooler places.
True that! Except I probably wouldnt be able to ride all year round;)
Yeah bro, you dress for the fall, not for the ride. I wear full gear all the time. If you ever go down, you'll know it. You'll appreciate all your gear when you go down at +60mph. Ask me how I know.

You just need some upgrades bro, but keep riding!
I will my friend I will
!
hows the rpm? mine doesnt accelerate at around 5000 rpm
not too bad.. mine isnt stock though. Do you have any mods on yours? Also I raised the rpm limiter on this one as well.
I have the 1200 conversation with V&H grenade air intake and V&H short shots. Do you have a 1200 conversation??? I know I love it!! It's a huge upgrade!!!

there are laws for a reason

fuck the laws ride hard roll free!!!
No it's about other peoples personal safety.
Which, surprisingly enough, is none of your, or my business.
Live and let live, or not.
Can anyone please tell me if there is a video on how to use the digital display on this bike please and what it all does
LOL, get a set of pipes and use the throttle more, my 883 low is stock other than a set of vance and hines short shots, it still probably would not have a chance against him, but its a lot more peppy than that. Still tops out at 110 though, time for a big bore kit. Oh and grinding pegs is FUN!

Man never ride without gloves my budy went down and was wearing gloves and still chewed his hands up , imagine if he had none ...
You can always put the 1200 motor in it
I could.. I was thinking the 1250. what's the difference?
TheAlienBeard 50
this person's dad I mean hp wise haha
anybody know what jacket he's wearing? would love to know
Yikes, the no gloves makes me nervous
what exhaust are you using?
I am using some python exhaust! I am not sure the exact name but they don't sound bad! haha
Ita not just the high revving that makes it faster. Its design
Hey bud, would you still recommend buying an iron 883?
For a first bike?
I currently own a Cbr300r 2017 model
@@admiration4442 what kind of riding do you do?
Intown when sunny & ride with an mc some weekends for a couple hours
@@admiration4442 I think an 883 would be perfect. It may be a bit slower than the 300 but cruisers are more than just going fast
Modify that 883 and you.ll be amazed what it capable of doing.
Old Soldier I have some and already am thoroughly impressed.
What cam u are using?
GoPro Hero 3 Black!
so my question is why the 883 over the 48?
Great question! Maybe I will make a video about that soon;) But I liked the cheaper price overall. haha
Dont have it sadly:(
Range :P
How about riding boots instead of longer socks lol.
Great skin coloured gloves! Almost looks like your wearing no hand protection.. which of course would be stupid as hell
Btw man, you're gonna have to tell us or make a video of your setup. Sounds pretty naize.
I could tell you right now!! 2014 Harley Davidson Iron 883 with python exhaust system! Everything else is stock but i'm glad you like it!
Hahaha I was refering to the recording setup. Helmet, mic and so on. But I do like your exhausts brah. No worries ):D
Thanks for taking the time to reply btw. ;) Keep up awesome work
Youre so welcome man! Stay tuned for more awesomeness!
beam me up scotty
WTF - why are you using your middle finger to brake???? and where the fuck are your gloves?
Dude chill out and slow down, you'll live longer.
lol i have that same bike in the same color except i have the front fairing and the fz6r is the econo version of the fz6. i think it has like 15 less hp
Daniyal S. that's awesome man! I used to have a 2012 fz6r too!
so hold on...
Lucas Mott I agree with you but even a professional can't prevent all accidents.
agree.
This is my dream bike
Man that jacket has to be hot- I have a textile with the liner inside, without the liner its like Im wearing nothing cept the jacket also has the armor padding
yes it's horrible!! it gets so dang hot here.
Ever seen 3rd degree burns ? Not pretty, wear gloves !
pim1234 look at newer vids.. taken care of:D
TheAlienBeard ok !
if u liked that road u were on ud love river road in iowa
get 1200 conversion. you will like it :)
Looks like SC roads.
You are correct!
@@TheAlienBeardHolly shit how bad are SC road when you can recognize them in UA-cam video. I live in the Greenville area.
@@kennyhildebrand3299 yeah for real. I'm from Michigan and those roads suck. My bro lives in that area!
Is that light on your check engine light?
I'm in that area maybe we could meet up and ride. I have a Gsxr 600.
Drew sounds good to me!
TheAlienBeard for sure man I'll be back to school there in January
sounds good!
Did you meet?
#biggershoes #longersocks xD
How about boots and man pants?
cant keep up with anything but they get 45+ mpg!! its sad but that is honestly the only reason i got an xl883. commuting on my hayabusa was killing my wallet
KoG GoK well add some power mods or a bore kit for added fun:D
45 is terrible I get 52 on my 2002 Road king.
Deejo i kind of like going over 35 mph and reving over 2k rpms
Only grandma's go 35 except mine. lol
Bigger shoes and gloves like for real.
what state are you in
south carolina!
Tennessee
nice man!
You didn't use the max of your bike, that's why couldn't keep up with that guy.
MisterZ Elder oh I sure did, haha
***** I'm from Brasil so I don't know how much costs around there for it, but, if you want to, you can convert it to 1200cc to get higher speed.
And the drift at 48 sec is sumptin. ua-cam.com/video/BFzhc3i0PRY/v-deo.html
you're in sc? im in columbia...got a 1200 nighster lets ride !
let's do it man!!
Road with no curves: harley owner --> awesome road (yeah, sure)
Fabio M. Huh?
you said "awesome road" but a straight road is no awesome in my book if you are on a bike
Fabio M. Any road is awesome depending on view and who you are with. Im sorry you don't enjoy all roads.
Does dan have a channel?
Caleb Riley not really no:/
Doesn't make you look "unprofessional" who gives a shit what anyone wears when they ride.
@TheAlienBeard:
If I die while not wearing any gear, I hope everyone appreciates how bad ass I looked on my bad ass bike.
@kentstank:
Why count on dying? Just saying I'd prefer my odds wearing ATGATT.
I don't care for it and as a female I would prefer to look cute rather than Miss safety.
Of course riding a motorcycle isn't the safest thing in the first place.
I just want to be seen by psycho driver's so I go overboard with my gear and armor.
Still though, why not wear the basic protective gear? (Not you personally)
I get what you mean though. Everyone has to put in their two cents, but should leave out the name calling and what not.
One word......Indian
Yeah Fz6 and the Fz6R totally diff engine. 6r detuned. Fz6 more hp
I like riding with no gloves
Get these guys off the road before they hurt somebody.
I ain't sorry
Why do people buy cruisers and try and ride them like sports bikes..?.?.
Alan Wareham cause why not!
no....
Why aren’t you wearing gloves?!?
Cause I am dumb! Look at my newer vids. I have learned😁
Luckily he wasn't trying to lose you. You're on one of the slowest bikes on the market I think... do yourself a favor and get a dyna!
Maxwell Actual what's that??
Maxwell Actual sounds good, I would love it do that actually. thanks for the feedback.
How old are you lmao,
Lovely bike that lots of people would give body parts for and you’re crying about it. Dry your eyes ffs.
Stock 883 45 HP motor is pretty dismal . Need least 100 HP to keep up with modern bikes.
I never understood the whole "wear gloves while riding" I don't think it's really that necessary as people make it seem to be
go down first and have your hands come up completely skinless. Then maybe you'll understand
Obviously haven't ever rode.
Doom Guild are you talking about me? I've never went down personally but know people who have went down and ended up with their skin hanging from their hands.
Cody Angelette your hands are so complex. Crash with no gloves and you’ll be asking for help to go pee pee. Or worse...
