I'm a junior in high school right now and plan to apply to USAFA but am kind of lost. I was wondering if you can make a video on the application/ recruitment (for sport) process, the grades you had, extracurriculars, etc. Also wondering how competitive it was applying in California.

Your videos are great and informative! How far in advance do the cadets know what weekends they will have free as opposed to having to stay on base? I was reading that it changes every year and that you are only allowed to leave base so many times?
Emily Larrier It can change at any time, but you usually will know that Monday whether or not you’ll be allowed to leave that weekend. That doesn’t include all the dates you know ahead time such as mandatory SAMI/football games/parades. As a freshman your ability to leave is based on the performance of your classmates/squadron. As a sophomore the number of times you can leave increases by a lot. And as a junior/senior you can leave during the weekdays as well. Hopefully this helps !

It depends on your class year!
As a junior you typically earn an average of 1000. Which doesn’t include the fact that they pay for uniforms,housing and food.

No civilian clothing your freshman year. USAFA just changed the rules for sophomores now as well ( you can’t wear civilian clothing on base).

How many pilot slots are there? How hard is it to get into USAFA? How long is the application process for USAFA? Are you guaranteed a pilot slot if you go to USAFA?
What are the steps for the USAFA application? Does everyone have to be in a sport? What gpa did you have in high school?
Do you need a certain asvab score to be a fighter pilot?

Pilot slots don't really have to do with USAFA. To become a pilot you need to finish college with a bachelor's degree and be the rank of Officer. If you haven't gone to college, USAFA gets both those out of the way. MEPS (ASVAB) is where you are able to try for pilot slots. You need to score pretty high to get a pilot spot opened up (to my knowlegde there is no limit to the spots. You just need a good score). This means that you can graduate USAFA and still not get a pilot spot because you might get a bad score (you can always re-do MEPS after like 8 weeks). Fighter pilot has nothing to do with your ASVAB score. When you become a pilot, you go through UPT (flight training). It matters how you perform throughout the year of UPT for your slot. You could become a fighter (jets), cargo (the big planes that transport stuff), or even fly helicopters. You could have a "wish list". But in the end, its how you perform throughout UPT to decide on rather or not you become a fighter pilot. Hope this helps a bit :)
Pilots spots per class year are dependent on the needs of the Air Force!
The application process is quite lengthy and most people start it a year to two years before their senior year of high-school.
I’d check out USAFA admissions for the exact steps.
You aren’t required to participate in a collegiate sport.
The most important score that the academy looks at for pilot slots is TBAS and AFOQT!
Also I’d say if you want to be a pilot your best shot is attending the academy because then 1. You’re not paying for any of your flight lessons 2. USAFA gets majority of the slots in the country for pilot training. (I’m not saying it’s not possible going thru other routes but USAFA definitely makes the process/path easier)

Super late but- Just go to your senators website and there will be a tab named service academies. From there just fill out an application

Yes ! Everyone takes boxing their freshman year.
When you travel on leave, do you have to wear a uniform? If so, can it be cammies?
Hey, pretty sure somebody asked something similar to this a while back, but I'm a US Citizen and have lived in the UK and would be entering my junior year at high school, how should I go about applying as I don't really have American qualifications :/ I tried emailing but I got a default email that didn't really help much 😂
If you’re a US citizen your application process should be exactly the same!

I sadly can’t give an exact number but I’d say the average ACT score for my class year was a 30.
do girls NEED to have a pull-up down for basic or does it just look good if you can?
You don’t need to but it definitely looks good and helps with you Pt test scores!

Hello! I’m interested in the Air Force Academy and I actually took my CFA today. I was wondering , how important is the CFA on the weighted scale? I feel like I didn’t do as good as I could have, and the Liaison seemed to hint that it was very important in the sense that it makes me stand out among the other candidates. What do you think about the possibilities of acceptance with a low CFA score? Thank you !
I know some of the rules regarding the “weight” of the CFA suggests that it’s gone down. But I very much agree with the liaison officer. Anything that you can score higher on will definitely make you stick out!!!
To live outside the dormitories either outside the base or a house within a base do you have to be married and be E-4 or more?

You can always go enlisted for a few years before applying!
I'm enlisted right now and I applied for lead currently 22 and my birthday is Feb 28 am I still eligible to apply even though it's one day past my 23rd birthday off time is important I was born at 11:58pm just curious because the wording is confusing on the usafa website much appreciated

I don’t know how much this matters now but I had a friend who was accepted but turned it down. There’s nothing that states you have to attend until you return the acceptance letter

Hi there, don't sweat it either way; a sponsor family is not required to graduate though many doolies find it a welcome escape from fourth class life. I was one of a handful of people in my class who was never assigned a sponsor family in my time at the Zoo.
Because you go to the Academy do you get to travel any places for cheaper? Or do you have to pay the same as everyone else?
yes! There’s ways to travel by military air that are free. Plus most places you visit offer military discounts for active duty.
Hey Cambria, I'm a Enlisted A1C applying to the academy and just wanted to see what ya'lls opinion on my SAT scores are and my chances of getting in with them. I currently got a 668 in math and a 560 in verbal BUT my GPA is at a 2.8..... so what do you guys think?

if you go to the academy you need to do a sport when you're there. they have like 20 competition sports and 30 club sports.
