- Finally coming out of retirement with some doughnuts and a nice fat turbo burnout! With a couple more mechanical issues sorted, I finally made some progress with tuning the maxpeedingrods/ebay turbo E46 drift car and man what a blast it is! Honestly, it's probably not even above 300 whp yet, but man is it a blast to drive, especially with all the new turbo noises (especially the flutter)! That said, still a lot of work to do with the tune, bring the AFRs even closer to where I want it, and sort out some drivability issues.

For those of you that are new, here's some info about the turbo build
- M54 GT30 (Ebay/Maxpeedingrods turbo and manifold)
- DIY MS43 Tune (Stock M54B30 ECU)
- Bosch GT2 Injectors
- Roughly 6psi of boost
I hope ya'll are just as excited as I am to finally get this thing burning a little bit of rubber again! I can't wait to get this thing back out on the track!

I am like you I rather tune it myself then pay someone to tune it. However my learning style is visual so if you would make a how to video I would hold you accountable if I blew up my turbo build by trying to tune it base of you showing me what to do. Glad to see you got everything starting to work like you wanted it to.

Check the voltage when the car is returning to idle i had a similar issue in my turbo e30 where my car would stall when coming to a stop especially after a pull. i ended up just raising the idle a little to avoid any voltage drops.
Yea I bumped it up 100 rpm before the last clips. It helped a good amount, but still happens intermittently.

Im never gonna do 70% of that stuff to my car, but cool video though, usually its kind of painful to watch most car youtubers figure out how to string a sentence together, but youre a good speaker and the editing was pretty seemless, the car looks thrown together well, not that it means much coming from 1 random youtube comment but good job man.

Absolutely amazing, well done. What software are you using to create a data log AFR map?
All data logging is done through tunerpro. I’m just lazy so I created an excel sheet where I could copy tunerpro’s history table into it and it’ll tell me how much I need to adjust by. It’s definitely not a necessity though
Add some fuel into low rpm decel area to catch the idle so it doesnt stall.

I used an oil feed restrictor.
Are you running the new oil scavenge pump in this video? How is it holding up so far are you happy with it? How noisy is it?
I'm curious if you think it's possible to run that scavenge pump directly from the oil drain on the turbo instead of building that separate vented tank you built.
It seems to be holding up well. It’s only noisy when priming, otherwise I can barely hear it. In hindsight, I’d go with one of the larger pumps that RBRacing offers. Many people run a line straight off the turbo without issues.
Hey nice video! Sure I'd love to see a tutorial on how to get started. Right now I have a Galletto cable but none of the software works so far. There have been many drawbacks, such as the drivers not originally supporting the 64 bit platform etc. So yeah a video would be nice, on how to get started. :)

dude you got the latest uploaded e46 video on tuning, iv been tuning hondas for two years now and just need some input on what you do to get the laptop to the ecu, yur car looks hella gutted/drift ready and im two week in to where your at lol, make some videos my man!
My first car was actually an RSX (loved the damn thing). Always will have a soft spot for hondas. I connect the ecu to my laptop using a K+ DCAN cable. MS4X Flasher is used for uploading and reading maps, and Tunerpro for tuning and data logging.
@@nuisance_carl hondas have potential, i keep thinking of k swapping my e46. but want to kind of master that i have first. do you know of any datalogging options? i get lean codes and feel like tuning for the lean spots is the easiest option as i already checked for vacuum leaks and cleaned maf

What software do you use for tuning. I had a 2006 E90 325i and it used an N52 N/A motor. I tuned it myself and slapped on a fat 6466 turbo on it. I used many different platforms for flashing.

Dude I live in the US Virgin Islands so its tuff to just go out and get parts to turbo charge my car but it's my dream to drive a turbo charged car .. I've driven a supercharged vw Corrado but....lol.. im sure it's not the same.. u think I can do it?
@@toonicemedia2465 All I can say is, with money, anything is possible. If it's that hard to get parts, maybe try and get a kit to minimize the amount of shipping cost. If you could find a local tuner and fabricator, that'd be helpful too.

Hey I have a very similar set up and I’ve tried everything for turbo smoke and I have had horrible luck. But my car smokes so much worse I’ve seen your scavenge pump video and I think that’s what I might do next but I’m starting to think I blew my turbo.

I'm actually running an ICV delete. I ended up just raising the idle 100 rpm and it helped a good amount. I also don't think it's not getting enough fuel at low rpm

Yes check out my previous uploads. It shouldn’t be too far back. I’m using ms4x flasher to upload maps and tunerpro for tuning. Stock ms43 is correct

I’m about to turbo my e46, is this all on stock internals? If so, what’s the max psi you would recommend and so what’s the hp and torque on it?
Stock internals. Torque is your main limitation, not boost or HP, and that's dictated by your goal with the car. I personally would like to stay closer to 300 lbft to keep the car reliable.
@@nuisance_carl Ok. To give some reference on what I'm working with, I have a 330ci, I'm rebuilding due to an engine bay fire. I'm about to pull the head, replace the head gasket (its never overheated but since I'm inn there, might as well) annd I have a remanufactured cylinder head ready to go in. I'm trying to make at least as much as an e46 m3 makes, if not a bit more. p.s. My IG is @me46mphis if you wanna follow the rebuild.

Do you recomend this turbo for a daily driven e46
I’m personally more of a fan of going with a proven kit for a daily driver. More r&d means you’re less likely to have issues that leave you without a car
Hey my friend. I have e46 turbo but my ecu is ms45.1 it is hard to tune what I can do
I believe there are tuners out there for MS45 (Maximum PSI, Gelashvilli Performance, and TRM Tuning come to mind). You could also convert to MS43 and tune that way.
Where were some of the vacuum leaks you had with with M50 manifold?
At the injectors and at the ICV fitting.
@@nuisance_carl what was the car doing? Having the same issue, main thing mines doing is on hot start it doesn’t want to start up. Have to crank the starter for a while and it finally starts up. After that it’s fine for the most part

Are you running the stock trans for higher hp?
Yes, but you want the ZF trans from a 330/328. the 325/323 getrag trans apparently doesn't hold much power.

Weird, you shouldn't be having turbo smoke issue with a top mount. You could try adding a restrictor

You can use any windows computer. You need ms4x flasher for uploading maps and tunerpro for tuning. Unfortunately I can’t offer a base map
