There is so very little written or discussed about the Holy Spirit. I am so glad Center Place and John Hamer created this specific lecture. To me, The Holy Spirit is the very essence of God, sent to guide and educate us with our spiritual lives on Earth.
Growing up catholic in Rome, I could never understand how a monotheistic religion can justify the Trinity, not to mention all the saints, Mary, Joseph, Padre Pio, and so forth. To be fair, I was a kid, so I figured that one day I would understand. I didn't. In fact, the more I study the Bible, the more confusing things get.
I understand now the value of the diverse viewpoints in the Bible regarding the Holy Spirit enabling one to have different not contradictory personal experiences. Thank you for this insight, John.

Sometimes someone can speak without thinking, but everything still makes perfect sense. In hindsight what was said might even seem obvious or trivial, but it actually hadn’t been in the room, formulated for everyone to grasp it, before it was spoken. Edit: maybe it was in the room, but it hadn’t fully manifested, before someone grasped it and expressed it. Edit 2: it doesn’t have to be something big, like a paradigm shift, or an idea whose time has come. - It’s more like the tiniest form of that: like a quantum of enlightenment.
I am enjoying these Centre Point lectures. At first I couldn't make out the Hebrew, then I figured out what went wrong. I assume some software is being used to "re-transliterate" (if there is such a word) the Hebrew words into Hebrew characters -- it is rendering them from left to right, which is the wrong direction.
There is one passage that has traditionally been used to argue that the Bible supports the Trinity; it is 1 John chapter 5, verses 7 and 8: "For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness on earth: the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree as one." But that passage was added 1,500 years after John was written. Scripture makes it clear that the concept of a Trinity is anti-God. God specifically stated that he is not a man: "For I am God and not a man." (Hosea 11:9) "God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind." (Numbers 23:19)
In our day, the Creed is different in Orthodox Church and Catholic Church regarding the sender of the Holly Spirit. In Orthodox version the Spirit is sent by the Father, in Catholic is sent by the Father and the Son.

I took the Holy Spirit as a force, not a 3rd "person" of the supposed Trinity. The church fathers really contorted to include the Holy Spirit into the Trinity. They may were intelligent but they were superstitious.
Is there an established position among any denominations, past or present, where God consists solely of the Father, Jesus is simply his adopted son/chosen one to teach the path to salvation (Jesus is not magical and works no miracles; is human and nothing more and merely prophesys), and the Holy Spirit is simply a way to describe God influencing/interacting with the material world similar in concept to how the Sun's light rays and gravitational pull affect the Earth without the Sun itself actually touching the Earth?

It's problematic to speak on things you don't understand. The best description of the Spirit in scripture is 1 Corinthians 2:6-16 where we learn it is Gods mind. Recall that soul is translated from psyche which also denotes mind, this time the human structure of thought. When divisive projections cease, these are discovered to be the same. This is the oneness described in John 17:20-26 and other places. This experience is marked by light and love in a literal way. That is the baptism of Jesus. The fire is the burning up of ego, projected separation.
Hebrews 5:7 and John 14:10 show this has happened in Jesus. The first says he has surrendered, the second that Jesus has given up his will so the Father acts through him. Logos is the will of God so now it is clear how this has become flesh.

Paul is certainly not telling us to test the actual Spirit of God Himself.

There is a battle between seeds of the woman/Sophia and the serpent/resister spirit. The opposing seeds battle. Some are adopted by Sophia and some are seeds of her resister spirit. That's how I would see it except Jesus could still do miracles and be a prophet. The trinity is bizarre to me.
