Bow in most common act in most of east Asian country which consider as a respectful act and did not signify one is more inferior that the other. Obama is just being respectful for the culture of Japan, this shows how open minded and courteous he was as a President.
In Japan is a common thing to bow before someone with significant authority. It's like a handshake or saying "sir". Dunno what the big deal is, I'm from Japan.
Bowing to the Emperor is apart of Japan's culture, and bowing shows respect and the farther you bow, the more respect you show. THIS IS A SIGN OF RESPECT!!!! Please I hope you understand now.
Edgar Howe The depth of the bow communicates respect for a relative difference of status. The emperor and empress _are_ bowing, to a much more appropriate degree as among peers, little more than a nod of the head. What Obama does is bemusing to them and awkward.
***** this guy never had any class.... but this is God judgement of the US for their Slavery.... what goes around comes back to bite u in the ass... lol
I think most of us could use a little lesson in humility. Obama may be president of the US, but he is not king of the world. I'm happy to see that he can still show respect despite his position as chief executive of one of the world's greatest countries.
would you prefer he curtsied, like Trump? And the bowing does seem overdone by Barack. What the hell was HE thinking? Leaders...can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em.....do they ever really measure up?
+Robert Mace One bows more deeply depending on the status of who he is bowing to. When meeting an emperor, one bows deeply. It's tradition not subjugation.
Yeah why should we respect other cultures in their own country. When we never ask foriegners to respect how we do things in america, when they come here. ...oh wait we do... nvm
Obama has to bow to the Emperor of Japan. Even the Queen of Elizabeth must bow due to the fact that no matter how many experience does he/she stand in their post, the emperor has a higher status than anyone else in the world as only Japan has emperor, the rest of the world is king/ queen. So using common sense and fact, Obama must bow to the emperor as a sign of respect.
Aircraft Boeing 787 You just made that up didn't you? There is no-one called Queen "of" Elizabeth. However, Queen Elizabeth does not bow to anyone, including the emperor of Japan. Here's video evidence: www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/the_queens_diamond_jubilee/9275105/Queens-Jubilee-lunch-overshadowed-by-row-over-King-of-Bahrain.html
+Aircraft Boeing 787 Even kings and queens supposedly have the authority of God to rule. No different than considering the emperor of Japan a god himself. Great leaders of a world power don't bow like that. They just don't. It is a sign of submission and authority, that is the point of the tradition. You don't have to be disrespectful for not kissing the emperor's feet. A head nod will do.
lol i know this is old. but bowing is customary when you're in their country. it's like saying, "the kind of Saudi Arabia should never shake the hands of commoner leaders." he bows because that's the custom.
A slight bow would have been fine but this seems a little excessive for a President. Not sure why he felt a "deep" bow was appropriate. He didn't bow for Queen Elizabeth.
@MiGustaTacoBell um,in Japan you bow,and in the west you shake hands.it's called respecting one's culture, something most yankees feel they are too superior for.at least you have a president who is a littler more well traveled then bush.

@MiGustaTacoBell's channel you are so narrow-minded. Do you even know about the Japanese culture? Why don't you study first before making any claim.
Bowing is a sign of respect in Japan. Its common.
if you go to japan you bow to anyone, thats is how they salute
This is just protocol....you bow to royalty, just as you would speak respectfully to a president or prime minister.
protocol?! Some protocol is far beyond what you may like, will you still follow it?!
This doesn't even deserve one star.

so why does the emperor not bow?! P.S. Obama is from US and not Japan, and has to uphold the US culture, no?!!

+Robert Johnson I bet the emperor was making fun of him after the meeting ended.
TRUMP 2020!!!!
i'm sure you're FURIOUS that Trump saluted a North Korean general, aren't you?

In Japanese culture bowing while shaking hands is a sign of respect.
The background music sounds like there's going to be some kind of invasion or attack by somebody.
It amounts to treason, yielding to the enemy is in a way an invasion
have you not traveled to other countries before and openned your eyes to different cultures before?
He shows respect to other leaders but to the Marines he walks past them like he don't know respect
What's up with the music, LOL
i say the emperor should bow down lower
what the fuck is with the epic music, hes just showing them sign of respect in their country, even though no politicians trust another to start with
i hope your joking dude, i seriously do.
there is nothing wrong with showing respect for other countries, he SHOULD bow to them, it is a good thing to do.
but its has to go both ways, no?! If the Emperor bowed, then I would have no problem with that.
A little more than a nod of the head would have sufficed.
Japan still has an emperor? Thought they would have moved on to the title president or minister after the Big One.
japan has had a prime minister for years now. The emperor has little to no political power anymore. It is simply just a royal family.
What a courteous gesture
a slight bow is fine , that is over the top
+Robert Mace One bows more deeply depending on the status of who he is bowing to. When meeting an emperor, one bows deeply. It's tradition not subjugation.
+Tom Walling It's exactly subjugation. That's the point of the tradition.
What's the name of the song called?

What does that have to do with bowing to an Emperor?! Maybe the Emperor should bow to the Pope?!
gx7ca Come on, he doesn't know what he's talking about. He's just an aircraft.

Autumn Spring Agreed.

You guys know thats HiroHito's son?
The guy who started WWII and pearl harbor.
So wierd.
Wrong the president is to bow to Almighty God. No one else.
