Matthew Perry was going through major substance abuse issues throughout these seasons. Says now that he can’t remember big chunks of it which is sad but kind of impressive that he managed to show up and perform the lines so well. But yeah you can see he’s missing that spark a little. Though I guess chandlers character is meant to be a little down in this episode.
This is probably the most obvious change in Matthew Perry's condition compared to the last episode of the last series, most seasons you don't see it very well and it doesn't affect his performance, but for me this is the most obvious and it has effected his delivery slightly and performance
This is so funny. This is literally a direct continuation of the previous episode, and Monica and Rachel already have completely different hairstyles! )
According to his book, Matthew Perry was completely sober during the just-concluded season six, but then had fallen off the wagon here. He said he was taking 55 Vicodin each day! It was a miracle he was even alive.
No, he had substance abuse issues for long time. That's why his weight fluctuates so much over the years during this show. At one time after this show, he had done so much damage that his bowels rupture, and he came very close to dying.
You are right abt. Matthew Perry. Previous season he was chunky, seemed clear-headed. This season he is thin, his face gaunt, something is weird with his teeth/mouth. His comedic timing is off. He was clearly struggling this season.
Matthew Perry was in rehab when they film the wedding scene with Monica. In fact, they had to drive him immediately back to rehab right after shooting that episode.
Rachel did steal Monica’s thunder of course she did she just used Ross like a rag doll Phoebe being a savage on Rachel about singing their wedding Ross is incredible handsome and super funny especially when he was punched by Rachel
If you look back at the last episode of the previous season, there is a definite difference in Perry's weight- is this episode, he looks very gaunt, even frail. His coat just seems to hang on him.
Dillon, I agree with Tanya, that especially with sex stuff you do often take it too far. It goes past funny to vulgar. I do, however agree with you that Mathew is acting different. I believe that in that interview he mentions several seasons were all a blur to him. This being probably his thinnest season, maybe the worst. Shame though with all that his character gets to do this season and he later can't recall most of it.
There was a brief moment where I thought Chandler was going to take Phoebe’s guitar, close the door, smash it, then give it back to her broken. But that would’ve been too mean and out of character.
What’s always bothered me about this episode is Monica wasn’t even supposed to see Ross and Rachel kissing so I don’t understand why she felt Rachel was trying to steal her thunder. Also didn’t Monica sleep with Chandler for the first time on Ross’ wedding day?
Matthew had pancreatitis here from drug and alcohol use in s6 but i think he was still using here and he ends up slurring speech a lot in s7 (i think his tongue was bloated or something)
He was intoxicated in many of these episodes that’s why he was slurring. If you watch carefully in the scenes where he is just beside others you can see his eyes wondering around and not being focused to the happenings around him. It was so sad to watch back then you could only hope he would get better. The tabloids made him look very ucly. 😢
@@mantailuaaand he will be intoxicated in all off these episodes as drugs take 24 hours too pass and he said he would take drugs and drink while watching a movie and pass out then bext day go too work
When I was watching friends series for first time... I just thought that they had a major break between seasons and that's why maybe he lost weight.... But I saw the same thing that dillon said... I just felt that he was at the time when he was recovering... But if you see in coming episodes he will get better... Maybe after all that stuff it was his first episode to shoot and the same Chandler took time to come back
It's so obvious that something isn't right with Matthew here and that unfortunately continues for the rest of the Season. He's lost a lot of weight and his line delivery is really poor compared to the previous episode. This episode has never been a fave of mine mostly due to Monica being really unlikeable throughout.
Monica was and still one of my favourite along side chandler, but oh man how I hated her in this episode, they made her a crazy woman in a nutshell. Ross is happy and doesn't understand what she wants, Chandler is trying to start a second round with her, and she ... she is just wants to pick a fight with Rachel! Why didn't she direct one word to Ross? She went out and saw them kissing each other supposedly she should be upset with the two of them (although until this moment I still don't know why she made it such a big deal / which is why everyone knew about it) This poisonous culture in the minds of some women is very disturbing (we understood that you are happy and you will get married) and everyone is trying to make you happy as well. Why did women do a great deal of issues if they saw that the attention had gone away from them for a moment?! and Attacks only woman like them, I really hate when women act like how Monica did in this episode.
I know what you mean. I hate the episode coming up where she demands that Chandler use all of his savings to pay for a big splashy wedding, - he wanted to use it to buy a home. Toxic Bridezillas are exasperating.
I fhink you're reading too much into it because of the video you saw about Matthew Perry. My husband and I just read his book together on Audible. He had just gone through rehab which is why he was thin in this season. Seasons 3-5 are the ones he said he couldnt even remember acting in. I agree with Tania. Youre seeing something differently. I personally saw no changes in his character. He was always my favorite character so i always paid close attention. I think youre reading too much into it. The actor is separate from the character.
@@TheRedPeril gee, why don't you tell me what you really think? And you're going into what grade with that kind of comeback? Sounds like a Trump level comment. If you're proud of that then really nothing else to say. Did you read Perry's book? He NEVER let his problem affect his work. He was the only one of the six cast members allowed in the writers' room because he was naturally funny.
@@carriesmith742 I have always been a big fan of Matthew Perry, and the show "Friends", in general. BUT, I must disagree with you on this one. There is a noticeable difference in appearance of Perry going into this episode-although I never noticed a real difference in his acting. What caused this change in him, that's debatable, but facts are facts.
@@jessieball6195 I will definitely agree that his weight significantly dropped between the finale of season 6 and the premiere of 7, but I did t find any faults with his acting.

How tf did I not notice that until now

I see it in Matthew Perry's performance too. It's a bit "low energy", as opposed to his normal "high energy".
I noticed it the first time i watched as well. But he got better again, It didn't feel like it lasted long.

Mathew Perry did seem to have different personality a tiny bit. Off a little but works for the character right now .
Mathew Perry said that when he was fat and bloated, it was alcohol. When he was thin, it was the drugs.
pls for the love of all things holy, stop breaking my speakers every time with the volume of that damn opening XD
this episode is just so awesome, Ross is just FIRE!!!!!
Rachel did steal Monica’s thunder of course she did she just used Ross like a rag doll
Phoebe being a savage on Rachel about singing their wedding
Ross is incredible handsome and super funny especially when he was punched by Rachel
Glad that Tanya finally told him. I agree with her Dillon really take it too far. It is annoying sometimes rather than funny.
Monica was being so dramatic she’s the one that made Ross and Rachel kissing a big deal not Rachel
I saw the difference. You are right.
Nobody would have found out if Monica hadn't made such a big deal out of it.
Wow people do go to lengths to defend rachel, don't they?
And how would you describe her using ross there?
Ross fault again?
Being completely honest I didn't notice anything wrong with Chandler, if I didn't know he had substance abuse issues, I wouldn't even suspect.
