@@mbblover Actually what she said is what you just said but with different words. Looking always to be interesting makes you self-centered (selfish), but staying interested in life, in familly, in relationships, in your career etc makes you compasionate (nice). Greetings.
An Aussie actor asking advice from Meryl must have caught her on a bad day then as Jane Fonda wouldn't have said anything cold and superior. Public figures have to be so careful.
Fonda is articulate, intelligent, very knowledgeable about all aspects of the movie business, and she is gracious towards her fans. She has made foolish mistakes in her youth regarding the manner in which she chose to represent her opposition to the Vietnam War, however, she has acknowledged this bad judgment and she has supported worthy causes over the years. Her film performances are exemplary, particularly in Klute and Julia.
Well said. Also, she was great in Coming Home, They Shoot Horses Don't They, The China Syndrome, etc. She rarely gave a less than stellar performance in a role. A true actor.
i guess Im randomly asking but does any of you know of a tool to get back into an Instagram account..? I somehow forgot the login password. I would love any assistance you can give me.
You call her traitor , You call her a shame or You call her Hanoi Jane but she is without any doubt one of the finest and greatest Actress of all time and beyond that a great human being with a great heart
@@mikedowd66 No, she was not correct about Vietnam. She was not brave because the Left adored her for stabbing soldiers like us in the back. The Left adores her today, and in this video. Just today, the modern Left thinks the U.S. should continue to engage in regime-change wars (i.e., Korea, Vietnam, etc).
Jane Fonda getting a 'Life Time Achievement Award' for promoting every Globalist Communist Marxist Agenda she is paid to do. ( Boring, mediocre Acting at best.)
MediaLover194 I watched Commie Jane in a movie Old Gringo and saw her kiss the old old man Gregory Peck wondering it must take a lot of money to do that. On reflection I figured she just imagined it was Ho Chi Minh.
Thanks, Jane, for always telling us the truth and living a life which has produced lots of goodness in the world. It is now 2024 and I know you are still going strong. You probably don't remember but I said hello to you in 1959 at Palisades Amusement Park in Fort Lee, NJ. You were accompanied by it looked like two bodyguards and when I was next to you, for only a second or two, I walked away realizing that I had just seen the most beautiful woman I had ever seen in my life. And that feeling has never left me. Be well. ❤
I think this is one of my favorites speeches of all times. We don't have this from anyone, such humbleness and praise to the stillness of learning! Love Jane Fonda more than ever now
I absolutely love this video. Specially the way Jane points out to Meryl beeing the only one to ask this kind of question, it only confirms how humble Streep has always been. Gotta love this woman.
she is a living legend , I like her intelligence and her indurance through the years , she's been around for a long time Jane fonda!! since the sixtees and movies like THE CHASE, BAREFOOT IN THE PARK, THEY SHOOT HORSES DON'T THEY? my favorite THE ELECTRIC HORSEMAN and THE MORNING AFTER, richly deserving of a lifeteime achievement award !!!!! I hope next one would ROBERT REDFORD He deserves it in equale measure , THEY started out together so to speak !!!??
LOVE FROM FRANCE
what I love most about this speech is that it seems to come from the heart. Yes, there are big words... but more importantly, there is truth speaking out of her eyes
Since I remember, I have loved and admired Jane Fonda and Meryl Streep. I am a bit younger than Jane and a bit older than Meryl. Both of them are -in my opinion- the best actresses of our time. They both are so articulate, intelligent, generous, strong, beautiful and a true class act. Love you Jane, love you Meryl! The world now needs more women like YOU BOTH!!
merveille des merveilles : 'il est plus important d'être intéressé que d'être intéressant" Sublime de sagesse, je partage votre point de vue. God bless you Jane.
Jane Fonda is the one of the best actresses of our time. I met her in Atlanta raising money for AIDS. Not only is she dedicated at her craft but she is also a caring and generous person that wants to make life better for those that are in need. As she says, "It's much more important to be interested than to be interesting." I truly applaud her.
The part that gets me the most is the fact that Jane Fonda's the only AFI recipient I've seen of whom the applause for her continued several seconds into her speech.
I love JANE for her great gen...great energy STILL...taken care of herself...wellbeing...had not let Hollywood damaged her...a strong woman who can live long enough to inspire others!! 🙌👏👍🙏🎉 Happy new year Jane!!
This woman...this ICON...was actually nervous doing her speech!!!? Amazing. Plus seriously, she is still so beautiful and HOT, but wears her age with incredible dignity and youth. One in the eye of the young people who arrogantly assume they'll live forever! She probably will.... And Meryl...OMG Meryl!!!! It's damn obvious why that lady is so brilliant. It's in her face in every shot.
So that was 25 years ago, right ? I am 22 and she looks better than me. Apart from that, this is one of the best AFI speeches I've seen. Some actors actually do care about their work. Everyone should be more interested than interesting.
I'm not from any sort of acting family, my father wasn't famous like hers and I guess people tend to think that she's had this great life because of who her father was and the privilege this brought to her, but I tend to think she would have had just as interesting a life and successful because of her attitude and her strength, I have really loved most of her films, I do like her...
She and her brother, Peter, had a tragic life. Unfortunately, their mother had mental issues and was institutionalized and she committed suicide there. The children did not know this till they were older - Jane read about it in a magazine. Their father told the children their mother left the family.
what an ineffable speech! "Being interested is much more important than being interesting." I just wrote down this quote/aphorism in my notebook. Thank you Jane Fonda and Merryl Streep.
I remember when Henry Fonda won an AFT award. Jane, Peter, his 2nd wife another child were there. Lucille Ball spoke - mentioning they did 2 pictures together The Big Street and Yours, Mine, and Ours - it was so funny, I was laughing as was the Fonda Family.
I always thought she would've been the biggest competition for Meryl Streep if she didn't retire for 15 years or so. If she did only Klute and They Shoot Horses, Don't They, these 2 amazing performances alone would've been a remarkable achievement, but then Coming Home, On Golden Pond, The Morning After etc. So for me it's funny that she mentions Meryl in her speech. :)
I so admire this woman's character and conviction...and ability to self-reflect and, yes, take ownership of her shortcomings and missteps. Having said that, as beautiful as Jane Fonda is...Diane Lane (2:54) is just one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen.

Great actress and exceptional human being!!!❤️
That is soo true about everything in life. Keep asking questions!
Great speech. "It's much more important to be interested than to be interesting"
But she is Jane F*king Fonda and don' t ever forget it.

right up there with "it's nice to be important, but more important to be nice."
