By popular demand, welcome to this Let Her Go Guitar Tutorial by Passenger! I've finally done it! This is probably the most requested song I've had but because of its complexities I wanted to make sure I took the time to make the video as useful as possible and also to show simpler methods of playing that tricky intro. In the video itself i'll be covering 2 different ways of playing the song. When passenger plays the song live he tends to stick to just fingerpicking. The studio recorded version has a combination of the two though.

2. Strummed Version
At the end of the video i'll have a full play-through of the studio version which uses a combination of the 2. I also have a guest vocalist singing on top for context, she's a fellow you-tuber. Check out her youtube channel below :)

@@someoneonyoutube1993 I wouldn't recommend it, then when you play an Eminor, you'll lose your low bass note. Also the G chord would have a new shape. I mean, yes you could technically - but it's up to you.

You have to push it to the side rather than to down straight with the guitar to follow the natural shape and position of your fungers

Dear @GuitarZero2Hero, this song was at my grandmother's cremation and I loved it so much. Because the whole meaning was right, if I loved her I had to let her go. I looked up how to play it on guitar, and I found this video. It took about 7 weeks until I could get it all the way at the same pace! I just want to say that you are a really good guitar teacher! Respect and thank you for explaining this! :)

How do I do that first chord without breaking my thumb?

break ur thumbs first my guy, it hurts playing guitar lmao
after breaking your thumb a lot it stops hurting that much. And its good practice for other songs like hey there Delilah which also destroys your thumb
If Fmajor7 hurts your thumb practice the Bare F for a time and that thumb will not hurt at all it will be comfortably numb.
I just don’t use my thumb

If you have difficulty using your thumb when playing the Fmaj7 it's helpful to tune the the 6th string up a half step to F. Just be sure to play the 2nd Fret for the G6 and avoid the 6th string for the Em.

The most fantastic guitar tutorial! I love the way he teaches every pieces of the song with great structure and it's quite easy to follow for a beginner as well especially to learn the rhythm . Loved following the fingerstyle in details however I modified the rhythm quite a bit. Its easier that way ;) Thank you!!
Still very new to guitar, and this is the first song I've ever started to learn that encorperates 4 fingers for picking. It's been challenging, but I almost have the whole intro down. Can't thank you enough for this video, it's really taken my finger picking to a new level. Now I've just got to learn the rest 😅

good tutorial thanks, but I have a Problem with the f major chord where you need your thumb to hold the 6 string.
I love how bored you look playing the simplified strum pattern. First time I have watched you; may be my new favorite. Great playing the visual aids are amazing and the fact that you can pick it slowly shows you actually know it, so many people can run it out but can't slow it up and that's what shows you actually know it!
Me, at 1 month experience with guitar: This is gonna fucking take months.

First of all, AWESOME lesson. Perfect speed and the on screen indicators were a huge help.
Second, I’m having some trouble playing to the metronome. I can play the some pretty decently by now, and I think listening to music I have really good Rhythm, but I always go a little too slow or a little too fast. By the time I hit the ping on the 50 BPM I find myself off. If I’m not mistaken it’s four lines per beat.
Do you have any tips for playing with a metronome?
I would need 10000 hours to learn this !😢😭
