Anyone noticed that the sample gold medal was carved with the name of Liu Xiang (the gold medalist of 110m hurdling at the 2004 Olympics )?
Having broken the world record in 2006, he was expected to win again in 2008 Olympics.
Sadly, he suffered from a serious injury which forced him to withdraw at the preliminary round...

Yup. Liu Xiang was an icon during the days, likely second to Yao Ming.

It would be great if they just reused what they already did in 2008 but with a winter theme and maybe the original FUWA mascots Biebei, Jingjing, Huanhuan, Yingying and Nini but in winter garb

MrDelvoye this logo is the chinese character 京 (jing in beijing,bei=north,jing=capital),and “beijing 2008” is using chinese calligraphy instead of European calligraphy.
