    Jasmine, great job. I am happy that an African American young lady out there has enough interest in our culture to sing in our language. I thank you for that. Don't listen to the contestants that competed with you that are making videos putting you down. They're nothing but jealous of you because they got defeated and are embarrassed of themselves. Keep on singing in Hmong. =D I look forward to more of you on UA-cam!

    She did a great job, and is a big hit for us Hmong. We should be PROUD that other race are starting to think about the HMONG PEOPLE. I think that we should stop having the idea that HMONG NEW YEAR is just for the Hmong people. But we should be happy that other race and people has taken the interested in our culture and want to expand that. We need to stop being self-center or be narrow mined just because she black doesn't mean she doesn't deserve to win. She did a great job and keep it up!

    i think what will make her even better is learning what kinds of shapes your tongue has to make to make certain words some correctly. because Hmong is a tonal language. knowing that your tongue works differently with each tone/word will definitely help. regardless i still give her mad props. it only gets better from here on out!

    yes, i understand people will criticize and be hateful but no one has evidence that the judges cheated. If they did, put them on trial instead of saying the same old things people say on youtube. No one is going to do anything about it. She is an amazing singer, so let's stop with this non sense and support her :D As one of the singing contestants, i believe we were all winners on that stage. You would understand if you were in our shoes, until then, let's just stop the hatred and support !!!!

    Thank you xiongxtreme. I know many others caught this about Soua Ly. I applaud him for trying, but he was not prepared. Jasmin is a great singer and is very brave to sing in another language, but her hmong pronunciation DURING singing is not clear. There were better performers/singers that should of placed. Lets watch and see if HINY will honor their promise of supporting Jasmin and making an album for her.

    In my opinion...I would say "NO!". I am not a professional in music; however, she should not have won first place. Clearly, the judges did not judge on whether the person can sing. I would expect that the winner should have a consistency in sound, rhythm, breathing, etc.. Again this is only my opinion and I strongly encourage everyone who has a passion for anything to never stop. There will always be a winner and a loser in reality nobody will be satisfied and people will never agree

  • @MissAngeyVang
    @MissAngeyVang 12 років тому

    @2007essence2007 Totally agree on this. Hmong people should be proud that another Race would even "want" to sing a hmong song. I think she may not be thee most talented singer for this song, but she did put alot of effort into it... and that's all that matters. Plus, it seems she enjoyed singing the song.

    On the contrary, we are not white and we speak English fairly well. We are Hmong and we speak better than this. We may be limited in our vocabulary because the Hmong language is more limited vocabulary wise, but give us more credit please. I'm very proud of all the contestants in all the competitions. They show that the younger generations are catching onto our culture as it is passed down to them. There are bad apples in every orchard, but I'm proud we still speak/write Hmong

    geez people, calm down, when a hmong person wins that you all don't like, you say they cheated, when a person that isn't hmong win, you all say it's the judge's damn fault.... relax and just enjoy the show and enjoy life for once will ya? JUST ENJOY THE MOMENT and stop ruining it for others who are enjoying it.

Stop Hating, at least she was confident enough to go on stage in front of alot of Hmong people and sing. Every Race complain about racism yet its found within our very own community. I'm Hmong (green) and I'm face with knowing Hmong white, green and English... Still I don't hate those who don't know Hmong or those other race who does... embracing your culture is important so long as you don't abandon it... Whether it be the language or cultural life...
    And like most positive comments said, hmong Language is hard to speak and much intricate to read/write... Plus, there's hardly enough classes provided to teach us all unless you live in a predominate Hmong city...

    To people who are wondering why others are discussing the unfairness of judging and that there is some speculation of politics that played game, the concern is not Jasmin's race, anyone who was at the singing competition witnessed that there were very great singers that performed better and did not place. For instance, 3rd place winner was singing on the wrong parts and on wrong pitches and still scored more, Its too bad that it wasn't based on best singing performance.

    Hmong people who are commenting about the younger generations an other Hmong people who disregard the Hmong language, it's not their fault entirely... The culture itself is strict that they lean more toward the lenient American Culture... Plus who wants to be in ELD classes in high school or remedial classes in college???
    The irony of these comment is, you say you're proud as a Hmong with her singing yet you talk harshly about your kind... I'm Hmong (green) and I'm face with knowing Hmong whi

    @Peaches192 This really isn't the first time a non-Hmong has sung a Hmong song. There's many Mormons who can speak Hmong and several who have sung. Recognizing that she didn't perform an overall best as compared to everyone else isn't shunning as you suggested. Do you listen to ENglish songs that are not pronunciable? English accents are great and I love them, but this isn't anything like having an English accent. This is a reason why I dont' listen to Hmong Chinese music. Can't understand

  • @nrhiavkojxwb
    @nrhiavkojxwb 12 років тому

    @michaelvang85 The competition wasn't about embracing someone for learning our language. It's about who did the best performance. I didn't enjoy hers as much because the intonations are all off. But that's my opinion. Maybe the judges were embracing and didn't listen to the words. She should have sung in English and maybe I would have enjoyed it more.

Just because they see a black lady sings and they starts to favorite her I don't see that fair... I believe there were other singers who sounded better and did a better Job At singing... I'm not saying the black girl can't sing she can but not clear

    @xiongxtreme2382 The judging was not fair at all because one of the competitor's who won 3rd place didn't bring his music for round 3 and he borrowed my cd--(I was a competitor) and he sang the same song as I did, it was the wrong pitch for him, he also sang at all the wrong parts of the song because my instrumental was different than his AND he even apologized for not bringing his CD and not singing to the right song. @MissKa714-From my POV, I think that Jasmine did a wonderful job performing. Hmong is not her first language, so you can't blame her on not speaking it clearly. Just think of yourself, you are a singer yourself and if you were to sing a American song and perform it in front of an audience full of Mekas People, I bet you wouldn't even have the guts to go sing in front of all those mekas people. Did you think twice before criticizing? Or are you just mad you didn't place?

    First of all it's very impolite of making fun of her winning first place. It shouldn't matter if ur Hmoob, khej dub or meskas dawb, MeV, they should be able to win, too. Just as like saying, "Americans are white, should they not forget that they're white and look up to they're white people and not let other race win, too?!" reasons that Americans let other race win is because of not what they r but what they sing or do. What's so hard of not accepting a black girl to win in a Hmoob new year? Bl

    It's not about race at all, but tsis zoo mloog li vim cov words tsis clear li. If we don't like it, doesn't make us racist. If it is to sound like this, she might as well sing in English. It's like singing in broken English, doesn't matter how good you sound, you're not going to win any competition. It wasn't just a bit off, the intonations were incorrect enough to ruin the song.

    Yes, I agree that Jasmine tried her best on the pronounciation parts...however that should be part of the judging. I viewed all the other singers and many did a wonderful job. Giving her 1st is a little too much. The same criterias apply to her like the other singers too. This has nothing to do with her race. As always, HINY cheated again!!!! This statement is not for Jasmine, its the HINY ways of doing things at their new year. They don't care about the pple, all they care is MONEY MONEY!

  • @MissKa714

    @MsEmileeLauj I'm not saying she didn't do a wonderful job. you are missing the point, attempting to sing in another language was not a factor in deciding placement, anyway, singing in front of any audience takes guts.
