Speaking of Skrillex I ask Chatgpt why his productions are so good and this is what it told me: "Also, keep in mind that skrillex productions often involve a team of engineers, sound designers, and other professionals working together to create a final product." WEAVER idk who the hell you are but your hilarious and very educating when it comes to the music production world and I really appreciate that, most of the youtubers in this genre are giving us a bunch of bullshit that they don't believe themselves they are just getting paid to promote some product so they lie about it for that paycheck and the views. You keep it real no matter what and I really respect that and most viewers don't want ppl feeding them bullshit so channels like yours will live forever and succeed for a longer period of time then the BS guys.

Music theory is essential and I get pissed when I see UA-cam videos saying it's irrelevant and you don't need to learn it, yeah that's fine if you can't be bothered but don't wonder why your music sounds like shit and like everybody else. You don't need to learn it to a degree level but knowing basics like the circle of 5ths, major & minor scales and chords will make you a better musician/composer/producer. I spent 9 years from the age of 7 having Trumpet and Piano lessons and studied A level Music and Music Tech at college in the UK. If I didn't I wouldn't be a Musician, Composer and Teacher today.

Hardware does negate some issues with inaccurate peak detection(the reason streaming services ask for files with -1db true peak is because of this inaccuracy) and cramping of high frequencies found in digital domains.
In digital you can fix these problems by oversampling.
BUT oversampling creates further issues by altering the impulse response which can smear transients and fuck with your compression and limiting.
Software is almost as good as hardware. But software has fundamental inaccuracies and distortions which are present in the mathematics they operate with, which are not present in hardware, since hardware operates by the laws of physics, instead of informational abstractions.
That being said, Im 100% in the box, and I'm fully satisfied with digital, for now.

Hmmm. the one about shitty mixing sounding underground is interesting but I would say that was the case 30 years ago when really the only way to get a really polished sound was get produced by a major label, because hardware gear was just way to expensive for the average dude to contemplate owning. Due to this there was definately a preference for crappy sounding music {Nirvana Bleach is a great example of this. Its charm was that it sounded like it was recorded in a trash can. I think today though, you can make a really great mix for virtually free with software and learn how to mix on UA-cam so there is no excuses for sounding like shit.......

    1) Ableton is horrible, but I use it live, because nothing else less horrible can beat Ableton for that use.
    2) Everyone uses samples to some degree these days. It's nearly unavoidable.
    3) 808's are drones to me, like any drum resonance. Nobody says "you can't play that tom here, because it's a C tone and this is in Bm".
    4) I don't understand any of what these genres of electronic musics are. I just make music that is what I want to make.
    5) I made the best music I've ever made before I learned music theory, but I had honed my skills and understood a lot of how music is made by playing covers live for 25 years. Now that I know legit theory, I overthink my choices a bit too much and play it safe.

You might have a naíve take on the danger of AI. It will improve a thousand fold every year.
And although progress will be made by humans who innovate new styles and patterns, AI will be quicker to adapt to it than maybe the artists themselves.
Have you heard of Joseph Heller? He wrote ’Catch 22’. But his best book in my opinion is ’Picture this’. Among other things it addresses how Rembrandt in his later years barely could make a living, because everyone was stealing his style. Imagine what AI can do?
