Just in case anyone is having trouble learning the metric modulation part...He's playing the 8 note pattern Rl(Right Flam)RllRllK at the rate of speed of 16th note triplets (6 hits per beat) for a total of 24 notes (one bar's worth). Which means he plays the 8 note pattern 3 times. Instead of 4 times as 32nd notes which he plays in the first half of the vid. Hope this helps some people out.
The Gospel Chops drummers, who are very impressive, are mostly black because drummers raised in gospel churches and gospel music are mostly black. It has less to do with the colour of their skin and more to do with the musical culture they were raised in.
thse videos are so so good i've learned how to play drums long ago, and i wanted to learn some cool stuff to get me back to it. These slow and somewhat simple explanations are the best i could find. Better than classes xD
nice nice! i also like the little pre-fill at 4:19. nice nice! thanks Yaahn and gospel brothers K , flam (R left), R, L, L, R, L, L all of that 4 times and youre good!
I THINK it's like this: R/L R L L R L L F, with R/L being the flam (Right/Left) and F being the foot/bass drum. You could also add a second flam, to the first of last 4 notes: R/L L L F, just takes more practice on the left-hand intensity.
Could you send a fella' the tab for this lick? It's an awesome lick and you are a freaking awesome drummer. I wish you all the best on you music career. God Bless, stay loose and happy drumming.
awesome! more people need to know about Vinnie and Zappa etc.. There needs to be some more progressive drum beats on the radio now!(among other world problems) Sick Chop!!!@!
hello, great technique and nice ideas. 3:55 you say that you are going to play 16th note groove in a groove... I think you are playing the "groove fill" on 32nd subdivisions. I just say this because I relate it to your count in beat. Maybe I misunderstood... or maybe not... ;) Great video!!!!
Lord take me higher in 2010 dock!!!!!!! to be honest Yaahn hunter is real cocky and conceit real talk uh alot musician's that play w/him in the pass had said that......but he's gifted and a beast!!!!!!
its 7 years later, and what you said has proven to be wrong. I've followed Yaahn for a long while since you posted this, he is a humble BEAST. Speak love not hate.
it starts with the bass then a flam so its (K R+L R L L R LL) then you do it all over as long as you want....... K-bass R-right hand L-left hand +-together JUST IN CASE if u didnt know
I gotta know, this beat at 7:23.. nearly identically to the one @mattgarstka plays. Would love to know more about the origin of this groove, if it was just in the ether at berklee?
more of a demonstration with a description of playing. I would get more out of it if he singled out each stroke and provided a transcription to read at the end.
this shout out goes out to my green horn from cali.so u choppers out there or whomever this comment goes to,grab the kid from cali with the fire in his belly.you know who you r,ryan glick with the stick.we are very proud of you.im very humbled.your dff,lol brian "gilby" gilbert.peace, practice, and perform.......
@mrbrickmore get to know him he's not as bad as you think are churches use to be 4 blocks away an yes when i first met him he seem that way then we got to know each other dude is a coo dude
It's because a pad has more rebound making it easier to bounce off the head. As soon as u hit it the stick comes back up kinda like dribbling a basketball. You don't have that luxury on a set so u actually have to physically hit it 2 times rather than just letting it bounce back up. Practice on your mattress it sounds wierd but trust me it will help
Yaahn HUNTER JR he is a good drum teacher
He is I love teaching gospel chops 😍🥰🥰
I met his dad a few years back and he is a super nice man!
Thanks you, for the class. You are amanzing
What a good drum lesson. Great job. Once you learn one instrument learn another.

The Gospel Chops drummers, who are very impressive, are mostly black because drummers raised in gospel churches and gospel music are mostly black. It has less to do with the colour of their skin and more to do with the musical culture they were raised in.

Hot damn, internet five for the fill section 6.22 - 6.29, that was sweet!!! Def practising this lick
WOW
I've now watched 3 videos in a row, all posted on the same day, which also happens to be my birthday O-o
good job! cheers from peru
@mjd032 its a hybrid rudiment called a flam-five
I THINK it's like this: R/L R L L R L L F, with R/L being the flam (Right/Left) and F being the foot/bass drum. You could also add a second flam, to the first of last 4 notes: R/L L L F, just takes more practice on the left-hand intensity.
dang i wish i had those kinds of chops in my left hand
Dopeness
YEahhh
Could you send a fella' the tab for this lick? It's an awesome lick and you are a freaking awesome drummer. I wish you all the best on you music career. God Bless, stay loose and happy drumming.

You're drum god

dopeee bro
I gotta know, this beat at 7:23.. nearly identically to the one @mattgarstka plays. Would love to know more about the origin of this groove, if it was just in the ether at berklee?
Lol mad kid...
This dude is awesome, that's all.
PLEASE will you get a microphone and mic up the interviewee for this videos Gerald?! PLEASE!
Please I am a new/beginner in drums and I want you guys to help on my double kicks and how to row the sticks fast
Muito bom...
dude is beastly bay area stand up.
@hskdsg It's an instrumental I believe.
Wow Sir you are a still a freak of nature on those drums sir. Time to go practices harder. Just when i thought i was getting better (smh) lol
that would sound really rad as just a short fill in a groove. like 1&2&3&-(1/4 of the fill)-1&
Can I purchase beats like this for use in my music project? Nothing like live Drums
K , flam (R left), R, L, L, R, L, L all of that 4 times and youre good!
He starts playing at 2:41 YOUR WELCOME :)
8 years later... I still ain't got it😢
R+L (flam) R L L R L L B, the bass is actually on the last beat, and it's semiquavers
more of a demonstration with a description of playing. I would get more out of it if he singled out each stroke and provided a transcription to read at the end.

awesome but it helps if you explain the sticking :)
Can anyone one tell me the sticking for the lick at 3:16. I would really appreciate it.
listen max roach!
Legal
This is almost the same lick as the video with Darion Ja'Von but this guy explains it a lil better
they both great drummers tho !
smart guy, diggs the concept, not the sole fill. nice
how do you do that single hand rolling on the snare?
From vinnie~
@mrbrickmore get to know him he's not as bad as you think are churches use to be 4 blocks away an yes when i first met him he seem that way then we got to know each other dude is a coo dude
@dvdoyley I meant *these videos* Gerald, as in all videos where you interview someone. We can always hear you clearly but not the interviewee. Thanks.
man your great
shotout from israel :D
thumbs up if you practiced your left hand rolls after watching this video
4:54 - 5:05
I know how to do the flam perfect , yet I cant get my sticks to bounce on the set the same way as on my pad , please help :(
It's because a pad has more rebound making it easier to bounce off the head. As soon as u hit it the stick comes back up kinda like dribbling a basketball. You don't have that luxury on a set so u actually have to physically hit it 2 times rather than just letting it bounce back up. Practice on your mattress it sounds wierd but trust me it will help
Can someone please write this out? It's forreal bugging me that I can't get it..
What was the sticking? sorry I missed it..
he has an hacked left hand in the end
@dedebass7 what that mean?
It almost sound like a paradiddle
Um.... You demoed the accented right flam yet you brought the right down BEFORE the left!
I shall slow down this video, learn the sticking, and become god
this may sound racist but it only works that way if you have proper skin tone
oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo deeeeeeeeeeeiooom ma ke fregon se olle
16 note. Start with a flam lRRLL RLLK
pause at 7:12...the face...
whats the name of this rudiment?
wow vinnie colaiuta is very influencial
if hes main focus is keys, why did he do a drum shed? huh dont get it
cause he still loves drums.. come on dude
