    My favorite new world tarantula! Huge, robust, tough, always hungry, always outside, cheap, easy to keep, easy to breed. So much cooler than Theraphosa or Pamphobeteus imo.
    I got a 15 years old female salmon pink! Bought her back in 2005 as a tiny sling. She's a beauty and can be seen on my channel!

    I have a tiny little savage in a dram vial right now. She has to be around 1/4 inch but I decided to feed her a tiny mealworm with its head crushed. It was still spasming so she ripped it in half then paraded half of it around her enclosure before eating both halves. I love her she lives for the kill lol.

    I’m loving my LP. I’ve had her about 3 years, got her at about 1.5”, now she’s about 6-7” maybe. Super aggressive, lots of fun to feed, and she knows she’s big so she never hides, like you said, since she was 2-3”. Best $20 I’ve ever spent in the hobby.

    I'm a recovering arachnophobe. My first 2 slings were a GBB and LP. For me the GBB was a massive 1 inch spider, and the LP was a big 3/4 inch spider. I got them 2/10/22. I've had no problem growing with my tarantulas because of videos like this. The last 2 molts for the LP were 4 and 5 inches. Safe to say she's 6". Just make sure you're calm and respectful of those hairs.

      For future reference, towels are a lifesaver. Only ever had 2 escapes in my experience, last one was only about an inch at time of escape. Try to keep an eye on it immediately as it bolts. I took 10 seconds too long realizing what had happened and though I saw the direction it went, it was impossible to find even after tearing the room apart. At this point stringing a towel underneath any doorways in the room atleast keeps it contained. After a couple days I was able to find the little bugger bundled up into one of these towels. A small space heater along with slightly moistening the towels may help attract the escapee as well depending on room conditions. Good luck! Hope you find it!

    My Lasiodora Paranybana opened it's burrow up the other day after a few week hiatus. I was shocked because the whole was 3 times bigger than in the past. I looked in, finally having a clear view, and it was HUGE. At least double if not triple the size from the last time I got a good view of it. It is rather exciting.

    I’m currently in the middle of building my exotics room (snakes, skinks, and Ts) and I’ve been wanting a T. Blondi SO BAD but I want to have a solid adult enclosure prior to getting one. So today I brought home an LP sling. She’s a spunky little thing and I can’t wait to watch her grow. I’ve got a terrarium ready for every stage of her growth. I can’t wait to compare the fun feeding of these guys compared to my G. Pulchra who likes to parade her food around her enclosure and she’s not even quite a juvenile yet. 😂

  • @js92css
    @js92css 4 роки тому +3

    LP was my 2nd T. You can always depend on it to eat regularly up until premolt.
    Mine is pushing 3.5" after a year of growth. Premolts have become longer though. At 1st, this LP was molting every month. I water alternating corners and it doesn't care. I do know that it absolutely HATES water dishes. It will flip them or full them within minutes of refills

    • @TomsBigSpiders

    Something I've learned to do, is vacuum after doing rehousings. I do some of my rehousings on my bed with a foldable table on top of it. I had a rehousing with a hair kicker, and waking up the next morning was painful. Vacuum and wash your clothes.

    • @TomsBigSpiders
      @TomsBigSpiders  4 роки тому +2

      I probably should have mentioned that I vacuum after the rehousings, as we do them on the dinner table. I also wash the table off. Yeah, I would NOT want to sleep in the hairs! haha Thank you!

  • @PrincessSuicune
    @PrincessSuicune 10 місяців тому +1

    Awesome video Tom! Not a fan of this species personally but I can see why they are so well loved! For me these are the "frat boy" spiders- the spiders that the yahoos go out and say "I don't want these dinky rose hair or curly hair spiders, lemme get the BIG SCARY ONE" and they go for Theraphosa, but they're too expensive, so they settle on LPs and then that's the only spider they ever get, it's kept in deplorable conditions, yet they think they're super cool cause they don't have a generic "beginner" t and of course they have a giant "12 inch spider the size of a dinner plate!" And yes, this is based on numerous experiences. I know it's totally unfair to the spider to take this frustration out on it, but I just can't see it as anything other than "the spider that idiots use to feel cool about themselves." It is a beautiful animal, I love pink and black, but I just can't unsee it as belonging to Kyle the bro who just finished hazing a bunch of freshman (no offence to any Kyle's out there!) I hope you get the vibe I'm aiming for here, ABSOLUTELY gorgeous spiders, super cool species, just so much negative connotations with them in my experience! Great video as always, keep up the awesome work!

      "Frat boy" spiders...I love that! hahaha Every once in a while I get one of those d-bags that will comment, "just pick them up, P***y." It makes me so angry, not about them calling me that, but that there are people that freaking stupid in this world. haha They're not toys, and I loath when people get one and do no research on it just because they want to show it off to their friends and show how "badass" they are. Pathetic. haha Thanks so much!

    You are the reason I've been fascinated by these amazing creatures for the past 6 months. I actually found your website before your UA-cam channel while chasing an internet rabbit hole. Now, I'm about as deep as I can get without keeping tarantulas myself. That means it's time to get a spider right? After months of discussion (and some pleading), I've finally convinced my husband that getting a T is indeed a great idea. The L. parahybana is going to be my first.

    Tom thank you for everything you do. I had an experience a lot like yours. LP was my first Slingbecause I heard they get big and I put it in a small enclosure not too wide but very deep with a lot of substrate because I heard they like to dig. But it was only .75 inch maybe!? It borough down to the bottom and I got very scared. I knew not to dig it out but I spotted some mold and didn’t want it to spread. I ended up digging out the enclosure bc I didn’t want the risk. I put it into something much shallower with better cross ventilation. I believe a 3-5 oz deli cup w maybe an inch of substrate. This enclosure worked out soooo much better I was able to keep track of the sling while giving it subtrate to dig a hide. And now as my sling has molted 3-4 times it’s about 3 inches even at this small it seems to be confident and sit right out in the open. Idk why bc ive heard of slings still burrowing at her size but I think shallower subtrate as a youngster made her a more courageous specimen? Maybe this is normal as you say LP are laid back. No matter tho I love her. Feel free to use my comment in the podcast my name is John W or just spiderclaw haha

    • @TomsBigSpiders
      @TomsBigSpiders  4 роки тому

      Hello, John! Yeah, for years I heard that 16-32 oz deli cups were the perfect enclosures for slings. However, I've found that in some cases, they can offer a bit too much room. Sounds like you had the same situation I've had many times before! Thanks for chiming in!

Maybe someday, I'll do a list of the ones I think everyone should own at one point (I think I might have already done a podcast on it!). Once again, amazing video. I needed this... My 4 quarter inch slings grew to 1/2" in 2 months. I feed them 2 pinhead crickets per week and keep them at 70°F. As a noob, I imagine this is fast growth in the tarantula kingdom.

    Have you ever considered getting a small handheld vacuum for when doing this sort of rehousing . Like an extractor in labs, it would kinda suck the hairs and not the spider if you connect a small hose and that way you suffer less those urticating hairs when they go flying. Just a suggestion, probably it’s a bad idea.

I don't handle my T's but with her she's quite comfortable to be handled and can sit in hand calmly. She's readily climb onto me and do a walkabout lol. Hey Tom. I've been watching your videos for a year now. Great education and always learning from you. Been watching you with the Simply Limeaid bottle. Two tricks for you if interested. Pull stickers if for better view, you already knew that, but use WD40 to take off the residue then soap and water to rid the mess afterwards. Second, you have been using cardboard to close off the big side. Instead cut off the bottom an inch, then you can invert it back into the bottle as a lid. Perfect fit. Hot glue handle for easier usage. Hopefully something new but thank you for teaching me always.

      @TomsBigSpiders  4 роки тому

      Thank you so much...I truly appreciate that. And awesome ideas, bud! Thank you so much! I use cardboard as it often acts as a shield for my hand and I can use it to scoop under the tarantula to get it into the catch cup. I just find it convenient. I used to have a container with a lid that I could put under it (much like your design), but I found that it would catch and couldn't be used to the direct the spider the same way cardboard can be used. Just my personal preference, though. And that's GREAT to know about the adhesive...thank you!

      Hi, Steven! I'm sure that you'll do just fine. Not only is this species VERY hardy, but they are usually pretty well behaved. Just make sure to give it some room so that you don't have to rehouse for a while. Good luck...and thank you!

      @@TomsBigSpiders bless you mate! If you got any extra Tips aside from the size of the enclosure. they're always welcome. atm I got a 20" enclosure here that should keep Him/Her happy for a while got gloves and goggles aswell for the urticating hairs because i can't afford myself to have itching and blistering for a week or 2. i'm ordering a 10gallon aquarium when she outgrows that one so she can go on a journey ^^

    I'm planning on getting a lasioadora parahybana as my first tarantula. I was wondering if a 1/2 inch sling would be an okay buy or would it be more intelligent to go for the 1inch sling? I'm asking because the price difference is pretty big. If the bigger sling is better I'm okay with spending the extra money though.

      Hi, Patrick! I think that a 1/2 inch sling would be okay, although just be aware that a 1/2" sling is pretty small. It shouldn't take it too long to reach the 1" mark. Hope that helps!

      I purchased mine as a sling/juvenile she’s abt 2-3 inches long I find that size the best to start for any species in my experience

    Great video, my sling dig all the way. I was worried he's not eating or maybe just not interested in dubia

      Sorry for the delay, Angelo...I missed this comment! Some spiders won't eat dubia. Also, if you crush the dubia's head before dropping it in, it will usually wander around a bit but it won't burrow.

    I was starting to feel like LPs are overhyped, as my three slings haven't grown as fast I'd expected. My A geniculata definitely has outpaced them. But I think the end result is going to be worth it; that's a gorgeous spider.

      It's funny, as I was told that they grow super fast, and mine have grown at a medium pace overall. I have one that was downright slow, honestly. I totally hear you! That said, they are definitely worth it! :)

    Love the video, I have a photo of my eyes with one that has hair in it. Looks crazy. But my blondi are so much more skittish than my Lps.
