Great design and tutorial! I would recommend for folks to water down the paint when painting over sand. Sand is porous and it absorbs better, especially with thicker acrylic paint. Not necessary to do two coats since the top coat will really cover it.

for all glues , use breath or a fan to speed up dry times . heck a hair dryer works too LOL

on the parts with superglue, you can try using just a little bit of primer on top of it to help stick the paint

I bought a 60 pound bag of Construction sand at local big box hardware for 6$ USD. I had the same issue with painting super glue, I found a light coat of rattle can primer fixes the issue.
