1:59 BLOODY HELL. This is the best big swell footage I’ve seen on UA-cam. The only thing missing is the noise. You go up up up up, until all you can see is sky. You crest the wave, then begin to plummet bow first-and there’s a bone rattling, wet THUNK as the bow smacks into the trough. From there, it looks certain the next wave will break over the vessel- but instead you’re thrust into the sky on the next swell. All the while the boat creaks and shudders and moans, the wind howls, and the wave sounds are relentless. It’s almost impossible to capture the experience on film. This clip comes closer than any other I’ve seen.

Considering how brutal that sea state was, watching this video was remarkably calming and hypnotic. Easy to say watching in the comfort of my warm home, but you guys have big balls to be out there amongst it!!
I served on an Aircraft carrier in 1966. We got in to a typhoon coming home from Vietnam. We had 150 MPH winds and 80 foot seas. From the flight deck to the water was 90 feet Waves were over the flight dec and as high as the 11th deck.
Just paint the whole canvas blue with some white caps in it. I think they’ll get the point. At least sailors will. They can appreciate it too considering their point of view out of those windows was all ocean one second. All sky the next. They still made it home to stare at the painting of it hanging on the wall in their living room.

Not brave, it's their job. It all depends what you are used to. I was born on the ocean and my father was a fisherman on the Bering Sea - it has the most dangerous seas on the planet. He first took me on one expedition when I was 12 and we encountered bigger waves than this video. I have since experienced many such conditions, so now it's a walk in the park for me. Not bravery, just used to it.
Tremendous waves and a well found ship.Being in the Bay Of Biscay in heavy weather in a small sailing boat, these are things you never forget all your life, like this one, and you truly bless the people who built your safe boat.Thankyou for your fine film.
Ah yes, the north sea. Our cook thought he was being funny, giving us 'storm soup' every time the waves were more than 10m. It's a pain in the ass to eat soup in waves like that, let me tell you.
@Bigwavemaster1 I appreciate the link you sent me! You are one of the few on UA-cam that have taken the time to answer questions I sent. I’m still amazed at what you all do. I smiled while watching the video (truly amazing waves) and I think I had a little urinary incontinence at the same time. Makes me want to do a ride along with y’all. But that thought disappeared after half a second into the video. I’m from across the pond but I still want to wish you all a happy thanksgiving. I hope you are spending it with family and/or friends and you are on calm seas today!

Hi Joseph!!!! I was on Lake Superior last month - coast guard soundings. we were just East of Marquette, running along, when the sky turned into a black wall cloud and it was impossible to beat to harbor. My feet were in the air more than on the deck. Who pressed the elevator button for up and down at the same time. What a week! Then we went over to Macinac for dinner at the Pony, and next thing we knew, the yellow round house was on fire, and a big one.! Never a even steven moment here…. lol. I am glad you told a story about MI big waves. People just don’t get it.

I want to say THANK YOU, to the Brave CAPTAIN and CREW. WITHOUT YOU transporting everything. Our world would not function. People would starve, companies would close. Which would lead to complete chaos. So, THANK YOU FOR DOING WHAT YOU DO!!!! GOD please BLESS them!!!!
So immense, has me giggling like a little kid when that wave rises mightily in front of the ship haha, love this type of footage capturing the insane and awe-inducing power of the sea.
That is some amazing sailing there, Captain! What are the swells? 100 foot? I enjoy the videos, soothing in an odd way hearing the creak of the ship and sound of the sea. However, there is no amount of money that could get me on a ship in the middle of the ocean. No way. Not even a cruise ship sailing down the coast is appealing to me.
My first Atlantic crossing when I worked on cruise ships in the 80's we were in a force 10 for over 4 days, 30ft swels sprey over the top of the ship, I found it absolutely amazing loved every minute.
I was on a US Navy ship in the North Sea coming back from a NATO exercise in Northern Europe, 1978. The only time I ever got sea sick. Unbelievable swells!

Even with all this movement, I would feel safer in this ship than in one of those super large ships, because of the risk of them breaking in 2 due to the tremendous stress. Hats off the engineers that have designed this ship. She takes these waves with ease and her sailing through such monstrous seas is a true beauty. This is strangely relaxing to watch, and really beautiful. This looks much more fun and entertaining than any amusement park.
Larger ships would take the waves at an angle to reduce the the stressing and flexing. There are videos where you can see the whole ship twisting. There are a few more storm videos on my channel that are much longer than this one and great for relaxing.
@@Bigwavemaster1 Yes I have watched these videos of ships twisting, and they are quite scary. If I was onboard and seeing that I would be terrified, because I would think the ship would break apart even though I know modern big ships are designed to twist like that. I have watched your storm videos several times, and I'm always following the other videos as well, long time subscriber here. You have the best storm videos I've ever watched in my life. These screacking and cracking sounds from inside the ship are relaxing as no other thing out there.
@@POLARTTYRTM Thanks for your continued viewing. Very much appreciated. Yes, modern ships are designed to bend & not break but that also depends on a good maintenance program of drydocks and surveys Once a ship has reached the end of their life expectancy and are no longer economically viable, they are sold off to countries that are not quite so fastidious about safety. There are many more ships lost that you will ever hear about.
At least the bow was rising when those crests were beginning to break. I'd hate to think what would happen if one of them broke across the forecastle. Actually that raises a question, do you pick a speed for going upwind that copes with this type of sea state or are you just keeping station with the platforms you are servicing?

‼️But the waves were the LEAST of their problems! Didn't you see the great red shark at 0:14! It had leapt out of the wave to get them! 🦈🌊 = 😩
@@HighlanderNorth1
Gees ,I missed that !
We dont have Red Sharks here .
Only blue Sharks , Mako and hamerhead .
Mako are bigger than Great White and more dangerous also .
Good thing they are rare .
Blue Sharks and Hammerhead are a bit more docile .
Although , There was a news story about a Shark that bit a Fishermans arm off .
They dropped a load on the deck and a Shark popped out with the catch .
He grabbed it by the tail and tried to throw it overboard .
A typical thing done everyday .
This time it turned around and bit his arm off .
They called Search and rescue ,
It took about an hr for the chopper to arrive .
He almost died .
But they managed to save him
He wont be grabbing any Sharks by the tail again !
Mike ..

Considering how brutal that sea state was, watching this video was remarkably calming and hypnotic. Easy to say watching in the comfort of my warm home, but you guys have big balls to be out there amongst it!!

Makes your ship seem small and I know from reading the specs, your ship is not small!!! Great video!!

Bad place to fall overboard!
No need to be scared, just respect the ocean for what it is, which is it’s only water.

I was thinking the same thing. They look like Mount Everest!
I served on an Aircraft carrier in 1966. We got in to a typhoon coming home from Vietnam. We had 150 MPH winds and 80 foot seas. From the flight deck to the water was 90 feet Waves were over the flight dec and as high as the 11th deck.
Quite an experience
So scary!
90 feet waves, sure ...time to get your pills now...
So I'm doing an acrylic painting of the sea and thought I'd have a look at some waves on UA-cam. Holy crap I haven't got a canvas big enough...
I have some smaller waves on my videos and some that are much bigger. Help yourself 😊
@@Bigwavemaster1 😂
Just paint the whole canvas blue with some white caps in it. I think they’ll get the point. At least sailors will. They can appreciate it too considering their point of view out of those windows was all ocean one second. All sky the next. They still made it home to stare at the painting of it hanging on the wall in their living room.
This makes Turner’s paintings of storms at sea look so tame…
We film some of the largest waves ever caught on camera.
We work with 2 oil platforms that can accurately measure wave height so no guessing or exaggeration.

This is such a good content , unlike anything anyone has ever shown us before, this is legit the real thing.. It totally Beats everything that’s out there on UA-cam right now, this is some quality content that really shows us what life at sea is really like and what goes on out in the middle of the ocean that most of us would never know.

That is some amazing sailing there, Captain! What are the swells? 100 foot? I enjoy the videos, soothing in an odd way hearing the creak of the ship and sound of the sea. We are an ERRV (Emergency Response and Rescue Vessel). It’s our job to look after oil platforms in the North Sea.

We were very lucky with the wave. It was like they were trying to avoid us.
We try and go as slow as we can while maintaining steerage.
