After a comment Twilight makes on Silhouette's birthday, he loses it and uses dark magic. Celesita grounds him in his room, and his advisor manipulates him into feeling worthless. We didn't get to find out what happens afterwards, but I presume this leads to him lashing out and starting an invasion of Equestria. I think he was implied to be Sombra's son, too with Celestia forbidding him from ever using it (hence the Sombra like armour in the animatic) EXTRA NOTE Sunset was Silhouette's childhood best friend before she went through the mirror and he has bitter feelings after said event.
