  • I recently got a display case for my Raspberry Pi 4. It's a 10.1" touchscreen with an IPS panel. If you use a Pi and need a small display for it, this might be worth checking out.
    The video starts with an unboxing, then shows how to install the Pi. There are little adapter boards that connect to the USB-C and micro HDMI ports on the Pi. A USB cable is used to handle the touchscreen interface. The end result is a nice compact setup that looks like a tablet when viewed from the front.
    There's also a small fan to help circulate air and keep the Pi from getting too hot.
    Depending on which operating system you use, the sound might not work at first. It's easy to fix -- just set the audio output to "HDMI". I show how to do that for Ubuntu as well as Raspberry Pi OS.
    Finally I show how to use the display case as a USB-C monitor connected to my Windows PC. Having a small external monitor can be really helpful when you want to see additional information while working at your PC. For example, I often like to have Task Manager running so I can monitor CPU or GPU usage.
    The display case is sold on Amazon. The unit I have is the 10.1" 1280x800 version, but there are other versions with different display sizes and resolutions.

    That looks amazing. It's like a budget iPad for techies.

    For me watching this channel for the first time is one of the best reviews I've ever seen on UA-cam trying solving a supply chain problem to a client.

    Hello everything is fine? I have two questions regarding USB C.
    1. When the monitor is connected via thunderbolt to a compatible laptop or samsung dex, do the touch functions work?
    2. Is it possible to use samsung dex using only usb c cable?

    Hi, does the display work with phones over the USB C along with touch input? If so this could be a very good alternative for cats that don't have head units.

    Is the fan speed adjustable on this setup? I'm currently using a different case with the 7" touchscreen, and the setup uses the GPIO pins, so the fan speed is determined by which pins the fan is connected to (either slow or fast depending on the pin connection). I'm curious if that same option of the fan speed is available on this setup in light of the GPIO pins not being used here.

    How does the pi solder to the unit? Not seeing the GPIO pins utilized. Also, I'm not seeing EVICIV other than store pages on amazon and alliexpress; did the in-box documentation reference a website or parent brand? Thanks

      There's no need to use the GPIOs. The display case provides power through the little USB-C adapter board, and receives video and audio through the little micro-HDMI adapter board. The USB-A cable that snakes out of the case is for the touchscreen interface. Their web site is: www.eviciv.com/

    Does touchscreen work when the screen is used as a second monitor? Would be nice to set it up as a control pad to interact with software on the main laptop.

      Yes, the touchscreen works. I only tested over USB-C, but if you use HDMI you probably need to also connect a USB-C cable for the touchscreen functionality.

    I have a pi 4 but I do not think this would be better than a tablet for most uses.

    Can you power up this screen without power supply ?

      No, it requires the external power supply.

    is there any way to power by battery for a portable tablet

    • @upgrdman
      @upgrdman  2 роки тому

      This case isn't designed for that. But there are "tablet cases" that include a battery and charging functionality. I'll have another review posted soon of a tablet case, stay tuned.

    Hey there, great review. I'm thinking about making a kitchen / display computer with this. Would you still recommend it?

    • @upgrdman
      @upgrdman  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, I've been very happy with it. The fan could be a little quieter, but that's not a big problem for me.

      @@upgrdman thanks! I've heard of people replacing the fan with a noctua one. I looked at buying one of these screens on Amazon Canada but they're crazy expensive here for some reason
