    Great info for those followers who have no idea what's like to live as we do, in a remote, wilderness location. Good Costco haul. We have to be so proactive about what we buy and from where. Good to see you have some bear bangers now. Shoot a few off so you know what to expect. Changing oil filters, running engines, using chain saws......all in a days work for us pioneering women. 😊

    That is one smart Doggo! She threw that ball back to you! She is cute too. How long does your food last you? I shop for the month here, and that looks like a lot more than a month. I envy your life Amanda. I was waiting the whole time for your Doggo to go for that meat. But she was a really good girl. Also, I had a canned air horn on me once in the car and scared a bear off with it. The car horn was not phasing him at all, but I put that air horn out the window and pressed it and wow he ran for the hills. I carry a combo bear spray and can air horn when I go hiking now.

    • @AmandaOffGrid
      @AmandaOffGrid  2 місяці тому

      haha, yes sometimes she does that... throws it back to me. it's pretty funny. dried goods can last awhile, but when the owners come for their visits (at least twice/month in the summer) i take advantage and get them to bring me meat, plant milk etc. i just ordered 3 more canned air from amazon. they are brilliant for scaring away bears. i did have a bear that hung around for a month last April and eventually he caught on to the air horn and wasn't scared of it. in general though they will run :). thanks for watching!

    Love the grocery haul. That's a great system with the land owner to receive your Costco order, then bring it with them. I am not near enough to a Costco, to get delivery, but will think about if I know anyone that could help me out. That's a great price for chickpeas and coconut oil. Lots of great questions!

    • @AmandaOffGrid
      @AmandaOffGrid  3 місяці тому +2

      costco does charge for delivery, but the i only bought stuff that would still be much cheaper even with the delivery charge. yes, the owners are great... they let me ship stuff to them on the mainland and they bring it with them when they come to the island :).

  • @clivejames5058
    @clivejames5058 3 місяці тому

    I love chickpeas too. I sprout mine to make them extra nutrient dense. Only takes 1 overnight soak + 2 days in a Mason Jar (rinsing morning and night) because you need the little tails just to be emerging (too long and they taste bitter). I add them to stews, eat a handful by themselves and make hummus with them. As an aside, I suffered from eczema and I sadly had to cut out all dairy. Made a huge difference though so I reckoned it was worth it. I now make my own dairy-free chocolate bark with ⅓ cup coconut oil, ½ cup cacao powder, 3 tablespoons maple syrup + chuck in whatever dried fruit or nuts you have (even sesame seeds would be nice and crunchy!).

  • @Sassygagirl

    @Amanda I too started experiencing eczema along with a pain in my right side. Turns out I had NAFLD non alcoholic fatty liver disease 😮. I had to eliminate all sugars, carbs & cow milk. I refused statins & researched alternatives. Nattokinase, Berberin, Turmeric-curcumen & fish oil is what helped. No more high blood sugar, no eczema, no pains & lost 13 pounds.Saffron is also extremely beneficial ❤

    Interesting video. Thanks Amanda. Bear bangers, careful with Peach. My dog freaks when she hears any sort of bang and if she were not leashed she would bolt. Around Lower Mainland our bears look for easy meals and bear bangers are used. As are unfortunately other means of removing bears. So many are destroyed every year. Your bears are lucky to be on in remote area but hope they stay away from you and Peach. Take care

    Per Dr. Eric Berg (on youtube)
    The #1 remedy for eczema:
    • Black currant seed oil (GLA)
    What to do:
    1. Take five drops of black currant seed oil and rub it in your hands to warm it up. Then apply it to the affected area.
    2. Take a black currant seed oil supplement or a few drops with water orally.

      oh that's tough!! very challenging to be a celiac! my Mom had crohns and it's a tough tough life. i did get the antibody test last summer, but it came back negative. so, i know i'm not celiac. all i know is when i cut out gluten my eczema went into hiding. it came back this winter, but definitely not as bad when i was eating gluten. i'm determined to figure out what triggers my eczema :)!

      @@AmandaOffGrid I'm glad your test was negative and that you got screened for gluten intolerance. I also have eczema and when I am exposed to *metals it flairs up. For instance when I go to the dentist and they scrape my teeth with the metal scrapers. (Tooth planing and scaling). Or when I have a surgery and they put metal staples in me. I don't know if metals are an issue for you or not? Another thing for me is canned food.

    Hi Amanda, I am glad that someone else asked what your ethnicity was also. I would have guessed Finnish. My own grandparent's came from Scotland (my Dad was born here in America)...
    as for your eczema I am so sorry you have it. I developed it at age 50, after we brought a second dog into the home (another Boxer). She was a pup and I would cradle her and began breaking out in it on my legs where she sat. Allergy tested by specialist and found out I was allergic to dust mites and dogs. :( I have a cat - but his dust mites can get to me. Vanicream is a great moisturizer that really helps seal the skin.

      i actually have Vanicream in my amazon shopping cart - funny :). great tip!! i have a strong feeling perimenopause has something to do with my eczema (amongst other things). i started getting eczema at pretty much the same time i started getting peri symptoms.

    Hello Amanda, you certainly surprised me with the Q&A and mentioning me. I can't believe you are 51, you look so young, must be all that outdoor activity. I had eczema many years ago on the inside of my legs, fairly high up {not to be too descriptive, lol}. Come to find out it was the coloring in my jeans and heat that was causing it. I switched to wearing Khaki pants and it went away. I hated having it. Do you think wearing so much heavy clothing can aggravate it? Anyway, enjoyed your Q&A and hope you do more. Maybe even a live sometime. You and peaches take care and don't let the Wildlife get you.

      your q&a suggestion was a good one, thank you!! i did change my laundry soap last year and it reduced the severity of my eczema quite a bit. i’m actually 54 😊… i am so grateful to have the privilege of aging… growing old is not something everybody gets to experience. 🧡🧡

    Okay Coffee I know a lot about specialty coffee house for 4 years tasted a lot of coffee dealt with a few coffee companies but the best coffee of ever tasted is Canterbury Coffee beans best espresso i've ever tasted way better than Starbucks I always class Starbucks that burnt coffee but Canterbury Coffee is one of the highest price coffees but you get what you pay for and you only have to use a little bit goes a long way Most coffee stands will tell you if you ask what coffee brand they run And if you're ever in a coffee shop never buy the house special because that's usually a lousy brand of coffee and it's where they make their most money cuz people are cheap

    I sometimes get eczema on my hands the top part my hands used to get a medical cream to rub on them sometimes they return into blisters it's very small blisters mine was caused by stress probably at work I had a very stressful job that's why I had a stroke at work I used to repair RVS the rental RVS that Courtney Carr Center and the boss was very cheap would not buy any parts until the last minute when he would have money coming in which he was kind of smart because Courtney Carter had been there for God 70 years and to have a business that long and Courtney is a very smart man his dad used to want it too back then it was he used to sell double eagle boats but anyway last year was there he wouldn't buy any parts and I had RV's going out on the May long weekend and he would send out trailers without fridges and stuff in them without telling the people and then all the customers would be complaining to me about it because I'm the one that used to drop off the RV's too yeah I did everything once he knew that I did everything he didn't hire anymore people we used to have seven people in the army he cut it down to three after he knew that I would do everything I know I'm dumb I always dumb that way I let employers know what I can do and they take full advantage of it and don't give me any more pay but anyway there you go my life story LOL LOL

    Off subject question. Any favorite anchorages in the Desolation Sound area?

    • @AmandaOffGrid
      @AmandaOffGrid  3 місяці тому +2

      My personal favourite is VonDonup, but it depends on what you’re looking for. VonDonup will give you beautiful forest views, peace and quiet and a protected anchorage. I always go right to the end. I avoid the popular anchorage’s like Prideaux Haven as much as possible as boats pack themselves in like sardines 😬. I also like Carrington Bay on Cortes. It’s the favourite hangout for the locals and can sometimes get noisy, but it’s a good little anchorage.
