FILM DESCRIPTION:
Jake Pentecost is a once-promising Jaeger pilot whose legendary father gave his life to secure humanity's victory against the monstrous Kaiju. Jake has since abandoned his training only to become caught up in a criminal underworld. I just cant wrap my head around the fact one of these guy had quite literal lightsabers and extreme mobility, but was kicking them most of the time. He could have ended the entire fight within 10 minutes with those lightsabers

@@ShreddKrumb I feel like the limitations the jaegers had in the first movie made the fights more interesting, and also meant there were higher stakes, as they tried to keep them out of populated areas by fighting them in the ocean first. You could see in the city fight that Gypsy was even stepping over walking bridges, and when they were falling after the sword scene, they aimed them selves at a football stadium to minimize city impact. Now they are literally throwing buildings at the kaijus, choosing to fight them in the city.

That’s already a problem
The Kaiju already destroyed a large amount of the MegaJapan just from making their way to Mount Fuji from the ocean. The only thing that matters once they’re within city limits is stopping them ASAP by any means necessary. If Jaegers were to be destroyed because they’re tip-toeing around cities during battles, then Kaiju would just go on to wreak havoc even more! 💯
@@evenindeathistillserve760 why should they do it on purpose tho when it's not necessary at all? Even if the kaiju destroyed a lot. That doesn't mean the Yeagers should do as well. I mean one building already cost like million of dollars and they are just throwing buildings on a kaiju when they already have weapons which are far more efficient. The Yeagers should actually stop the kaiju from destroying the city and instead they are destroying it themselves.
It's like they don't even care about the city, that's what happens when you put kids in 70 Meters big robots to fight big monsters.
@@fate4076 Well, for one, it’s just a bunch of kids, a washed-up Major who constantly looks to his rookie partner to the lead, and the thieving rookie who hasn’t stepped foot in a Jaeger for the past 5 years nor even graduated from the Jaeger Academy! Second, it's better to have a battle that damages a city badly than a battle that fails to stop a Kaiju. Worrying about making a mess when a mess is inevitable is going to lead to distractions, and distractions leave pilots open to attack! So, it's better to just focus on getting the job done because they have only 3 Kaiju to stop, and then Earth will be safe again, but if even one gets past them to Mt. Fuji, then the whole world is done for!💯💯

This feels weightless.
In the first one the mechs had weight behind them, even the punch had little rocket thrusters to help it along.
The Pacific Rim 1 Jaegers could barely run and needed rocked boosters to Jump.
I mean I understand technology becomes better over time. But last film made it like, it's humanity's last standing. So for them to upgrade the technology after Kaiju invasion felt off.
Also if the technology did get better like how smartphone is. There is still a limitation and they couldn't even dramatize it. Smartphone evolution also kinda slow with some big bump along the way
these are more advanced Yaegers after all

No offense to the actors, I know why they did it in the script, but the series would have survived longer if they kept the more mature setting of the first.
What was the point of having two pilots? Seemed a bit redundant to me, honestly.
@@ScarletBrimstone I’m not sure if you watched the first movie but it’s stated that the mental strain of piloting a Jager is too much for a single person thus 2 pilots are required, their minds are linked together so that they can pilot the machine as one. (The first movie is way better btw)

I like how despite being the biggest and bulkiest of the designs, it’s still incredibly agile. “Design uniqueness in terms of movement? Pfffff we don’t need that”. Also I like how it’s enormous autocannons, sound like regular machine guns.

@@Barisaxthereal Just because it's sci fi doesn't mean breaking the laws of physics is allowed. That's how you get audiences to lose their suspension of disbelief and it takes them out of the movie. Compare it to the first movie where the Jaegers had weight to them, they felt like real mechanical beasts in our world, and the Kaijus felt real, heavy, destructive. In Uprising everything is so polished, all that weight and gravitas is taken away. It's like comparing Iron Man 1 to Iron Man 3. The first one the suit felt like it had weight to it. The third one, and yes, I get "he improved the tech", it felt like the CGI that was shown to us.

Gotta admit - the sound design, especially for the Kaiju, is fantastic. It’s just ridiculous how fast the Jaeger’s zero to sprint time is. In the first movie they had to grind to get the giant legs moving, now they can get into full sprint faster than humans can
I'd say that's more because the Jaegers are more advanced than the previous film where only Striker Eureka was the latest model and had more durability and movement

I love how the fourth one did a goalie slide when they are introduced in Tokyo before they fight the Kaiju’s
They actually fall over from the morning star hand (the spike ball hand thing taken from Titan Redeemer) because they aren’t used to it, though.
There's nothing wrong with fast Jaegers, but you can still have a sense of weight to them. Just look at Striker Eureka from the first movie.

Yeah man I personally love Guardian Bravo's design tho in my opinion his design is second to Striker Eureka.
Same goes for most of the new Kaiju. The designs are still as good as those in the first film, but they completely flopped on, well, everything else that made the first film work

I prefer it when the jaegers were actually heavy and bulky, to make it more believable that they were actually mechs, unlike now you have these jaegers trying to be ninjas
Things I'll nitpick about:
- They run like normal humans in the cockpit. In the first film, their feet are attached to mechanical arms, and they move only as fast as the Jaeger moves. It just feels so much more _realistic_ and cool.
- Karate kicks, jumps
- The cringiest jump onto the battlefield ever
- These teens, they feel so immature (them flipping that Kaiju off made me want to flip my desk)
- Needless and intentional damage to buildings

Plus its a filmmaking issue. Like how cameras are placed and track Jeagers. In PR1, it was stationary or slow with no floating cameras but cameras that mimic irl movement. In this its all over the place without any finesse.
Then you have lighting, in PR1 it was perfect. Here its oversaturated mess with no definition or realism making things look like toys.
Then you have motion, PR1 moved had drag and intertia in its movement. Here its just action figures.
Finally the textures in old movie look real, battered and war torn. Here its like cgi rendering of a concept car.

Rico Cahyadi pretty much. Completely abandons one of the biggest themes of the last film. Kaiju blood was basically nuclear material and very, very bad so most conflicts ended up happening away from big cities and most of the weapons focuses on sealing wounds like using plasma based weapons

In the first movie at the split minute introduction, a Jaeger fought A Kaiju in civillian areas (Cities). One of those scenes are one Jaeger unleashing a barrage of rockets to knockout a kaiju. No blood, no waste, Clean and disposable

Second movie: fast weightless ninjas piloted by teens for fun, destroying an entire city.

Realise the jeagars are only lightweight as it’s was an future upgrade there trying to make Jae hard better not the same like the ones in the past as we both know what happens to crimson typhoon and Cherno. alpha (old Jeagers)

Watching this scene feels less like a sequel and more like a prequel to the first movie - where all the cocky pilots eventually started dying off to the Kaiju because of their overconfidence, lol.

The main issue is that they made all the big things too fast, they didn't feel as titanic. In the first movie the stuff felt big because it was slow

The designs of the Kaiju and Jaegers in this movie were genuinely really good, it’s just the way they portrayed them that ruined the movie so much, but design wise they looked fantastic

When the tech is still new there's a lot of experimentation, but as time passes and the numbers start showing that certain approaches work better than others, people will experiment less and instead stick to the versions that work, making more of the same, updating the tech, but rarely straying from the tried and tested. This is human designing stuff, not nature randomly mutating DNA.
@@thegreatjedi309 I don't think that's a good excuse. An example is Striker Eureka, eventhough it's movements are fast and is the most advanced Yeager at the time, it still retained the weight of the Yeager itself. These Uprising Yeagers are just Transformers/Power Rangers.

Now in this movie, they move like humans in costumes man, they look so unrealistic. Yeah, the history of it is not realistic took but cmon man, I the first movie you could feel like the Yeagers were real, but here... It's just... Frustrating

Remember when something that was actually intense was cherno alpha running at otachi with badass soviet music in the rainy atmosphere near japanese docks and elbowing it and even pummeling it? Crimson typhoon using its own weight to fling otachi? GIPSY DANGER USING A FRIGGIN SHIP AS A BAT AND AVOIDING COLLATERAL DAMAGE? Well the directors of this movie certainly didn't.

Most of the first Pacific Rim takes place at night, or in the deepest part of the ocean, so the darkness hid what would look "cartoon-like." Point being, the FX aren't technically worse, it is just you can see them now.
Oliver Fitzsimmons I personally don’t think that’s the case. Look at the Striker vs Sydney fight, yes you could argue that that fight was five seconds but the cgi looked realistic in that scene. And what the FX artists did with night scenes looked very good even if it was in the night. Also idk why but the jeagers looked much heavier and had more weight to them in the first film. They threw a punch it would take a good while for it to hit or for them to move. In this at the start you could see (I forgot it’s name, Bracer Phoenix?) Just slides across like it’s nothing. In the first film the jeagers stayed a good distance from each other to fight the Kaiju like they coordinated it.(I find this cool for some reason.) I mean Crimson Typhoon the lightest of the four had to put full power into its thrusters just to bring it self up out of the ocean. In this when the Kaiju merged they used its tail and knocked saber anthenas legs off like they were nothing. The Jeagers were much tougher in the first movie. Sorry for the rant. But these are some reasons I liked the first movie better, it was just more realistic to me. This movie went with more of an anime style which isn’t really my style.
You know for a fan project I think its very visually stunning but it forgets a lot of the things that made the original movie work which is that it played by its own rules and was grounded in reality, even if its sci-fi. It doesn't make sense that you have these jaegers that can easily pull down buildings with light and punch through them like they're made of glass (which tbf they are) and then in the next scene kick off of them to get leverage on a kaiju. Fingers crossed one day they'll make a sequel
There's a difference between saving the city and just being plain reckless even Godzilla and King Kong were more careful than this

First movie showed limited technology and realistic approach to the mechs and the kaiju. The slow movement and the pilots controlling it looked very realistic this movie looks so much like a marvel movie full with cgi.
The "Machine Guns" the one Jeager was firing, which looked cool but seem like it did absolutely nothing, were firing some big rounds. They looked 1/3rd width the size of a car at 3:53. Those are literally super tank rounds that can essentially be tailored to impact and explode almost any way you want it to, and they made it look like a .22 pistol was shooting at a boulder.
