      Yeah, I decidedly don't have "the UA-camr voice," and I deliberately didn't worry about it because I find that doing so distracts me from thinking about the points I'm trying to make. (I work off outlines and not a script.) Starting out though, some people disliked my "umms" so I've tried to cut those down, while trusting that the general way I talk to students I'm teaching is what I should stick to.

    CORRECTIONS: If your GM doesn't allow guns, you can still play a Gunslinger who specializes in crossbows. Crossbows in PF2e also have reload requirements, and don't have the trade-off firearms have of less base damage in exchange for the Fatal or Scatter trait.
    FOR DUAL-WIELDING PISTOLEROS: At 20:07 the Pistolero could not use Raconteur's Reload because reloading normally requires a free hand. (She is dual wielding.)
    My original outline had planned to make explicit the fact that Raconteur's Reload requires a free hand, and that she took the Dual-Weapon Reload feat to account for when she is dual-wielding. This is very important for people considering being a dual-wielding Pistolero.
    I had planned a whole discussion about how she COULD do Raconteur's Reload instead (and get its extra benefit) if she had a firearm with the CAPACITY trait, which have multiple barrels and you can Interact/"reload" it without needing a free hand. BUT it was too expensive for a Level 1 character to afford plus buy a 2nd firearm, SO she was going to keep a hand free at the start to be able to do her special ability. She also has a repeating weapon (the air repeater) in her off-hand, so that she doesn't need to reload when she fires from that weapon instead. I thought the whole discussion was too complicated and off-putting for people just coming into the demonstration, and I wanted to show her Slinger's Reload ability in action.
    (Late in the planning, I had her draw her 2nd gun at the beginning, and hence the impossible Raconteur's Reload.)

    Way of the Sniper is kinda terrifying honestly. As your Way reload lets you hide when you reload, your inital deed does bonus damage when you rolled Stealth for initiative. So just straight out of the gate you are slinking along, starting fights hidden, pop off a +1d6 extra damage shot with a Fatal weapon with the big boost in accuracy of hidden and having higher level of proficiency so you are probably going to crit A LOT, reload and hide in the same action, and then you still have an action left.
    The first shot of a level 1 Sniper is liable to crit for 2d12 + 2d6!
    Imagine the terror of a woodland elf sniper gunslinger protecting his territory. Just taking cover anywhere in the woods, quickly and easily climbing trees for a good vantage point or to flee.

      @@TheRulesLawyerRPG If I understand it correctly attacking reveals you from being hidden and also takes away your cover so in order to hide again you'd need to sniper's reload to take cover and then hide with another action, right? I mean there can be situations where you always have some form of cover or concealment that you don't lose from attacking but for the most part coming up from behind a rock to fire means you gotta get back behind the rock and spend another action to attempt a stealth check to hide so really you're gonna spend 1 action to attack and two to stay hidden throughout the fight which really locks you down, or am I missing something here?

    • @TheRulesLawyerRPG
      @TheRulesLawyerRPG  3 роки тому +4

      @@Zakiel97 It's under the Hide action: Strike does make you lose the hidden condition, but you treat the targeted as flat-footed for that Strike and then immediately become observed.
      You can have cover just by being positioned behind obstacle. This can give you standard cover (+2 circumstance bonus to AC). You can do the Take Cover action to turn that into greater cover (+4).
      You only lose the hidden condition, but not cover -- when you get up from hiding, you're still benefiting from being behind the rock, standing behind the corner of a building, etc.
      You then have the choice of Hiding or Taking Cover. They each give you a different and independent benefit: greater AC or the Hidden condition. You can have greater cover and not be hidden, you can be hidden and have only standard cover, and you can have both.
      (Don't think of hidden as having total cover -- the 2 things are different. Think of Hidden more as ONLY somehow not being observed of the enemy -- standing behind a curtain of leaves makes you unobserved, but doesn't protect you for example. Really it's just a game mechanic showing that they've somehow "lost you" for purposes of this 1 moment)

With this stance, during your Flurry of Blows you can make Strikes with simple firearms, and with bayonets and reinforced stocks (which can be attached to firearms/crossbows). I’m a bit confused about something, at 20:07 the Pistolero in the example is currently wielding a gun in each hand (she drew the second pistol with her Ten Paces ability), but you have her perform the Raconteur’s Reload action. Wouldn’t she need a free hand to perform this action, since all the ability says is that it lets you Interact to reload, an action that by default requires a free hand? I know there’s a first level feat that lets you interact to reload while holding 2 weapons, but isn’t that a separate action from Raconteur’s Reload?

    • @TheRulesLawyerRPG

    Thank you for this video! I am playing a gunslinger in the next campaign and looking into alternate options to reduce the targets AC to get those crits. Can you clarify if you missed rolling for the misfire in your battle scenario? When does the flat DC 5 roll happen after combat happens? The sentence I'm struggling with is..."If you attempt to fire a firearm that was fired the previous day or earlier and hasn't been cleaned since, roll a DC 5 flat check before making your attack roll. If you fail this misfire check, the weapon misfires and jams." Does the "...or earlier..." part of this sentence not mean earlier in the current round, or earlier in the day? My simple read means you need to spend 1 hour between each battle to clean the firearm.

    • @TheRulesLawyerRPG
      @TheRulesLawyerRPG  3 роки тому +4

      It's saying that if you didn't spend that 1 hour cleaning/maintaining your firearm today, you have to do this check when you fire. The "or earlier" is added to avoid players who, say, last fired their weapon TWO days ago and haven't cleaned their weapon since -- they, too, have to have cleaned/maintained their weapon either yesterday or today.
      It never comes up in the scenario because I assumed they maintained their weapons. If they hadn't, they would need to roll DC 5 "before making your attack roll", so every single time they try to fire.

    • @courtneymoore5440
      @courtneymoore5440 3 роки тому

      @@TheRulesLawyerRPG Thank you for the follow up response. I guess the misfire from failed cleaning won't likely come into play from a lack of cleaning. If a misfire happens due to one of the various feats that has that as a possible outcome, do you interpret the rule to imply that subsequent attempts to fire the misfired gun (after clearing the jam with actions) don't require the DC 5 flat check? As an example, if you use Risky Reload, and fail to hit, the gun misfires. Now an interact action is needed to clear the jam. Another action to load the gun and then fire the gun again. The misfire rule doesn't imply that the DC 5 flat check is needed prior to firing the gun after removing the jam. How do you interpret this rule? It seems that the DC 5 flat check is unlikely to come into normal game scenarios. Any insight from your perspective is appreciated.

      @@courtneymoore5440 Ah, didn't remember that there are feats that can also lead to misfires.
      No, because there's nothing under Risky Reload that says it's still prone to misfires afterward. It simply says, "if you use this feat and you miss, it misfires."

    This was a super helpful video! Thanks a ton! If you have a chance, I'm very new to this system and am trying to learn how to build characters properly, and the vanguard specifically is cool to me, but kinda confusing. How did you set up her basic ability scores?
    I assume dex is the #1 stat, cuz you need to hit the people you shoot at. BUT if you also want to succeed at all those shoves, I assume you also need str pretty high? Would you start with dex at 18 and str 16, with con at 14? Also. Would you maintain that ratio as you gain asi's? How much str is "enough" for all the shove actions?

    • @TheRulesLawyerRPG
      @TheRulesLawyerRPG  3 роки тому +2

      I'd guess you want your DEX to be 18 (it's your main attack) and you can still make STR 16. Add an attachment to your weapon (reinforced stock I think?) for melee attacking. Consider Voluntary Flaw if necessary to get your STR up.
      Ability Score Increases are plentiful (4 at a time) and give diminishing returns after 18, so it's not a HUGE handicap to have, say, a 10 Constitution since you can raise it to 18 eventually.

    • @TheRulesLawyerRPG
      @TheRulesLawyerRPG  3 роки тому +1

      Generally yeah you want the team to help you with the crits.
      The higher to-hit chance is also nice when you want to reliably hit, and when raw damage is less important (i.e. an enemy on very low health), that is its own situation where the gunslinger shines.
      The Inventor's +7 damage with overdrive is when they are Level 10. Better to stick with Level 1 for comparison purposes, when it is +2 (+4 on a critical success).
      I haven't seen anyone do a breakdown of the Gunslinger's average damage, but it would need to include the possibility that you are doing something to increase your to-hit chance so you can land a crit. The Reload tax combined with the lackluster base damage incentivizes you to do a "set-up" action like Frighten or Demoralize or Hide or Create a Diversion.
