  • What do you get when you mix killer chops, deep philosophy, and outspoken candor? You get Adam Rapa.
Adam is in demand internationally as a soloist and clinician. His command of the various aspects of the trumpet makes his playing seem effortless, and his approach to teaching is thoughtful, analytical, and exceptionally practical. And his unwavering desire to remove as many obstacles as possible for trumpet players has led Adam to cross over into the arena of mouthpiece and trumpet design with his company Lotus Trumpets.
Adam is truly a Trumpet Guru, and in this episode, we cover a lot of ground. Check out what Adam has to say about the state of trumpet design and what he's doing to make a difference, the cult of pedagogy, the impact of cultural diversity on his music and world view, being in a prime state on and off the stage, and why he doesn't have a favorite anything.
This is one hang you don't want to miss.
So pour yourself a big glass, pull up a chair, and let the hang begin!

Adam is a huge inspiration to me for many reasons, and this session has a lot of really valuable and important words being exchanged and wisdom and truth being shared. So thankful.

Thanks Jonathan! I appreciate your support. Adam has been a musical inspiration of mine as well. I was always in awe of his ability. But it's when I was able to spend a few days just hanging out with him, I knew I had found a kindred spirit.

Adam turned himself into a FIRST CLASS WORLD CLASS BADASS MUTHAFUKA!!
I remember hearing him in Drum Corps, and he was a REALLY GOOD then. Met him a few years later in the show BLAST, and his "extreme technique" was getting better, his range was already easy and effortless. NOW he's just

Great interview! Thanks for being so candid about why you left Monette and started Lotus.
The main take away from this is interview for me was the “find the easiest path” statement. This helps. Thanks for taking the time to do this interview.
