Amazing. Especially because it’s possible to understand each word he sings.
The man wins an international singing competition and the peanut galleries hangin out on youtube lol This guy was quite impressive. I wish they would hire him to the met and get rid of all those baritones posing as basses.
I had a chance to listen him live, while the rehearsals in Karlsruhe. A very big voice and good acted. What a pleasure for me.
🔝🔝🔝🔝
Seen him in Anna Bolena...agree 100%
Without getting personal I think objective listeners can agree that he has a noticeably wobble in the lower register of his voice. The timber or sound to me is quite nice with good top notes for a singer that is clearly a bass-baritone. My question is if he can resolve this defect with better breath control alone.
What do you mean by clearly bass-baritone? What criteria you are using to get to this conclusion?
@austin M Thank you for your feedback. According to you bass-baritones are more baritones than bass? Do you use term bass-baritone as synonim to basso cantante?
The voice wobbles because he was taught to "yawn and support," which drops the spoon shaped epiglottis into the air flowing from the lungs. He does so because he is worried about the quality of his voice and the resultant redirection of the noise into his inner ear to make sure he sounds right. This denies the easy flow of the sound over the tongue and precipitates the wobble.
Were he to find a teacher who could demonstrate the "square in the back of the throat" concept that Caruso taught Ponselle, and Ponselle taught numerous othe great singers, especially James Morris, then his voice would stop wobbling. But such a teacher is exceedingly rare today.
The breathe control issue can lead to breathe impediment, similar to grabbing a violinist's arm and expecting the sound to be correct. That would be the difference between Heifitz and a third grader.
The only issue for breath is that it must flow freely, as the violinist's arm must flow freely. Hence, the sole impediment to the air is how it travels through the chords.
Titp Schipa said. "The air flows over the tongue, carring the vowels." This idea displaces the diction into the mask, giving resonance, and allows the air the freedom to pass through the chords without obstruction. Once this concept is mastered, little else is worth consideration.
I Just saw his mephistopheles in FAUST (Irish National Opera Dublin October 2023)- this vid doesn't do him justice. His middle and low registers now have the same core as the top, unspoiled by wobble and his voice is ENORMOUS. He is also a great stage performer. He completely won over the audience. I would travel to hear this guy again.
Oh and he is indeed a bass baritone.
Great performance. Congratulations!
Magnífico!!! Hermoso timbre, voz potente, bravoooo👏👏👏
Very good performance! Congrats!
damn, Chris Pratt is a great singer
Magnifique, de la grandeur servie par une voix pleine de bravoure. Il y a déjà un BROWNLEE célèbre, ils pourront bientôt faire le duo des pécheurs de perles. Je vous souhaite un grand avenir en servant notre passion commune.
Yeah, what he said!!
This man owes me 5 dollars.
Maravilhosa performance
Complimenti per il bellissimo timbro e la dizione italiana. W VERDI ❤
Bravissimo!
Amazing.
Powerful voice indeed 💪💪💪
He is.. a Baritone. for sure.
No hes a bass-baritone i am Dramatic Baritone G2-G4
BRAVO!!!!!!!!!
There's your first prize right there. Vocal talent, acting ability, stage presence, it's all there.
Dinlemeye başladığınızda kopamıyorsunuz, büyük ses, teşekkürler.
BRAVO!!
The lower notes aren't there at all, which is telling because this aria isnt low.
WOW!
👏👏👏👏
bravi!!!!
He was singing under his breath the entire fria for the last note. Grey singer. The performance of anything, it will equally sing and other things.
I didn't think about the judges and their opinions, and stated my opinion. I'm sorry, but I had a happy opportunity to listen to the best singers on stage in such a repertoire: Reisen, Gyaurov, Nesterenko, Anastasov and so on. I perceived this artist as a singer, not as a participant in the competition. Don't take it personally, please.
Maybe the other bass-baritones couldn't make the long flight to Capetown.
Ima Bass baritone too I'ma Freshman
Sí señor. Así se hace.
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Bariton sings Banco.Is it interesting?
Yes., Nick. Support. It's already starting to wobble. The first 6 pitches you sang, I could not discern.
Really? I didn’t have any problem discerning the first 6 pitches. Maybe it’s your ears......
Absolutely beautiful voice, but he sounds more like a Macbeth than a Banco to me.
He will indeed sing Macbeth this december
We can't understand the notes he is actually singing.
This is a baritone.
This is not a bass and not a bass-baritone.
The deep notes are "thin".
Well he won 🤣🤣🤣🤣 who TF are you?
of course .. you are a specialist)))
Great Voice Mamma mia! Beautiful!!!! But GIVE PL TGE RIGHT ACCENTS!!! U’ll ne perfect of u do. With less effort u could ne so effective!!! Please do..! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻👏❤️
Your epiglottis is blocking the air flow, making your pitch wobbly. Listen to James Morris for the proper position. Then read his teacher's comments in Jerome Hines' book, "Great Singers on Great Singing," under Rosa Ponselle She learned it from Caruso. Works like a charm.
@austin M Meaning what? I said listen to James Morris, not me. Besides, there are at least two others below who agree with me. One, an Italian, said, "precarious intonation, poor technique, ingulated vocalism not suited to the large repertoire." Have you asked them where their video is? We have ears, apparently you do not.
@austin M ua-cam.com/video/B1P7s7Ax2LM/v-deo.html
I see why people in the arts get a bad rap just from the comment section here. The salt is palpable. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
He is more a baritone , heldenbaritone , he has not the black timbre of a bass.
Male
no. there's this sense of a wobbly lack of support.
beautiful color though.
Sure, he is in finals and obviously cannot sing; "lacks support"... The only support he lacks is yours...
Nicholas Ennos what?
‘Bass-baritone’? What is that supposed to mean if you are singing Verdi? And not particularly well. The voice is small and lacking resonance.
This voice does not particularly appeal to me, but I don’t agree with you. It does have volume and resonance. Anyone can hear this.
anyone who has ever heard him live will tell you the opposite
Voice is too small
In the theater, his voice is huge
intonazione precaria .
tecnica scarsa .
vocalità ingolata poco adatta al grande repertorio .
come questo bravo ragazzo ha vinto il 1 premio?!
con la voce ?!...
un mistero ...
o tempora o mores
p.s.
livello artistico scuola media e ancora ....
Inascoltabile.
Then don’t listen!
This ain't no "bass-baritone" he should stop faking his voice.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 wins an international competition... What have you done?
"Come dal ciel precipita" phrase sounds as if you´re singing the same tones. You´re darkening too much. Too much pressure. A big voice like yours is like a heavy truck but you still must keep it on the right track. Think.
Orribile. Un amatore.
Too much vibrato! No legato line..
sounds like a walrus.
You sound like an idiot.
@@markhodges8037 you sound like someone who has no musical sense whatsoeverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Holiday Blessings.💖
Nope,...check out Dimash Kudebiergen...exciting.
