      Wonderful .... hope to get back to making videos again this year ... and yes, I plan out what I am going to make and then I turn the camera on and just go for it, describing what I am doing and then saying whatever else comes to me in the moment ... I am glad it is helpful, some people do not like my rambles ✌🏻

    have you noticed Riah that people are spending less because of the economy? i noticed at a festival i was at afew days ago that vendors including me were disappointed in sales. i told my husband that i dont care if people dont buy taps i will just do them and hang them around the house lol next the butterfly oh yes ! one mistake i made in my first video that i told you about my first mandala. i should have had a line between the mandala and the scrunch which you showed. so the mandala where the scrunch starts does not look as good as it should.we are seniors and our place has a lot of old worn furniture so i can brighten it all up with the taps.i will be 80 years on my next birthday. Dave at custom colours says he thinks i am the oldest pro dyer in America.. so you can look fore ward of a long career in tie dye Riah. thank you again for the happiness you have brought my way!

    I love your stuff. I'm wondering if after you mark your butterfly if you could just take a needle and thread and do a running stitch along your marking and then gather it up? do you think that could work?

      You are welcome and yes those corner can be tricky to fold around... practice and patience are the key, and here is a cross video that shows how I fold around sharp corners and how you have to twist the fabric a bit and bunch it up to get the lines to be straight .... ua-cam.com/video/_s96tfrinK8/v-deo.html
      Also, you can make the center part between the two wings a bit taller.... mine is very short and it means all of the fabric has to fit into a small space once you fold all the way around the wings

    This looks so great. I’ve done a bit of tie dye but I’m starting to really get into it. I’ve only ever used rubber bands and I feel like I’m much messier. What kind of dye do you get that lasts so long in the bottle?

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  6 років тому +2

      thank you ..... I used to use just rubber bands or sinew for tying my tees, but 4-5 years ago I was introduced to kite string and now that is the main way I tied things up, so much easier, for me anyways, to start folding something and be able to start tying it with kite string as I am still folding parts of the tee and then to be able to tighten it up in some place just how tight I need it.... sometimes rubber bands are too tight or too loose .... I buy my kite string from Ace Hardware ..... as for dye, I buy the fiber reactive Procion dyes from dharma trading co. and they last a couple weeks in the bottle once mixed, and even longer if you have a fridge to store them in. ..... have fun on your tie dye journey and stay tuned for more videos

    Does on 'have' to use a soda ash soak?

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  5 років тому

      if you are using fiber reactive dyes, then you will need soda ash at some point before you batch them or the dye will not bond .... so you can soak and the tie, you can tie and then soak, or you can tie, dye and then squirt soda ash over the top

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  6 років тому

      there are many things involved..... good dyes are the first step so congrats!! next is mixing them strong enough, here is how I mix mine .... ua-cam.com/video/3Fj289T6BVg/v-deo.html ........ then a good mix on soda ash ..... ua-cam.com/video/zeI86jPen5U/v-deo.html ....... I soak my items for 20 minutes, then I spin out in the washer to remove excess soda ash, I like my tees to be slightly damp so this works great, and t is good for dyeing also, if you have too much liquid in the tee then it will dilute the dyes, after dyeing I let my items set up for 24-48 hours ..... I plan to make a video soon laying out these steps
