I have decked many trailers with those screws in heavy steel like that its best to pre drill with a bit a little smaller then the screw great project love the old trucks
When you’re using self-tappers, bigger is not better.. and drilling to fast will only heat up the metal and burn the tip up. Slow consistent pressure, or starting and stopping/pulsating will keep it from overheating and you’ll get better results!
I recommend a steel plate covering about 12" wide covering the joint between the ramp and main deck boards in case a car drags to prevent catching on the wood plank ends.
We put wood decking on trailers etc. I found that drilling pilot holes is best and fastest. Then put a drop of oil in each hole or grease the screws so they can be taken out again easy when they need replacing. It's all looking really good and can't wait to see finished truck.
I enjoy your show. Great build. Proves being practical with minimal waste is better than being perfect. There’s a million ways to do stuff and doing it your way is great.
The truck deck looks good, great choice to use wood. 👍 No problem, these things happen when you are in too much of a hurry... Self-tapping screws usually go in better if they turn slowly 😉
Hi , love the truck , im going to make a suggestion, I think it would look good if you ran the exhaust pipe across the top front of the side ls then mount some work lights just in case you have to laod in the dark
That wood must stay dry or those self tappers will snap, worked at a truss company and we tried to attach 2x12s to steel tables and no matter how many screws we used as soon as the wood would begin to swell they would start breaking off. We sealed it and that helped but eventually they still broke.

Corner cutting again. You must have a strip of metal where the two rows of decking meet. The void will eventually break and when the car rolls up the ramp, it will sag due to the weight of the car.
Those 5/4 x 6" deck boards will shrink a little and give you a small space in between each board. (unless they're already completely dried). When building my decks, I hold them tight together and when dried, they have a space in between for the rain to drain.
Love the truck. You are doing an excellent job. The only thing that drives me crazy is, get that saw up off the floor. My back is hurting just watching you get up and down. Lol

Bend a piece of 16g metal 2x2 at the angle 📐 you need where the wood meets and just add on top to connect them together, like a thresh hold like you would with hard wood floors to carpet or laminate
likes are looking grand tonight .1.3k likes .boards look spot on strip of metal along the join make it look good and serve to protect the wood from winch etc .great job thanks as always
Ramp truck looking good !! Nice work on the decking totally different than working with metal for sure , me I can’t build a square box to save my life , so job well done !!!! John G
Making that transition from the dovetail to the flatbed eventually you'll end up putting a cap over it and welded because the wood as it gets wet and dry and the sun draws on it it will warp and not lay as you are now. That is a good way to transition from angle to flat but like I said it'll need some metal over it to keep the lumber from warping over time.
He’ll have to end up capping those boards on the end of that beaver tail eventually. I would say about a 4”x3” x3/16” thick metal angle. They’ll warp and rot on the ends plus it will give it a finished look.
Looking good you could pre drill the hole and clamp down your board so it won't move. Henry's makes colored stains for wood decks it would look great in a honey gold color. Or whatever color you choose.truck is looking good.
Hey Chad and Jolene. Chad, if you'd use a piece of metal over the boards where the transition it would serve to things. Strengthen the joint and keep the winch cable from digging into the wood decking.
How are you two doing today? The boards I used on my COE bed were 2x6x12 and they were so twisted, I had to use ratchet straps to get them somewhat straight. It helped get the bow out, and the clamps to pull the twist out. I used paint mixing sticks to keep from denting the wood from the clamps. Good show thankyou. I'm getting a bunch of exhaust bends soon to make the art deco sides for my COE bed. Your show is inspiring.
Please make a structural lip on the back to hold the ramps and don't rely on that little thin piece of aluminum flipping them upside down. It's a 7 ft piece of angle iron or c channel welded to that back. That's all, have fun with your project.
Hey Champ if you're still gonna do the port holes like in your rendering you drew up I was thinking you could blow out the holes with the tomahawk then get chrome trim rings to give them a nice clean look instead of trying to make a perfect circle with a die grinder. They sell the trim rings for around $5 a pop. 6 inch, 8 inch all different sizes are available. 👍😉✌
Come on Chad. Either predrill the holes or use self cutting metal screws like they use to put metal on buildings, but with tapered heads for flush mounting.
Nice job buddy ,I watched the whole video. Don't force the cut let the blade do the cutting.i wanted so badly to tell you to put bed liner on both sides to preserve the wood.
I see two problems here , one bare metal under the boards to go rusty, two , no gaps between the boards to allow for swelling. It would suggest sealing the boards extreamly well , including the underside.
I have decked many trailers with those screws in heavy steel like that its best to pre drill with a bit a little smaller then the screw great project love the old trucks

Chad only needs the joint covered where the car tires will be rolling over it. He could use the same 14ga. stuff right?
Diamond plate would look better.
Keep the ends of the tail boards from splitting or lifting up too.
It will keep the winch cable from cutting into the wood
We put wood decking on trailers etc. I found that drilling pilot holes is best and fastest. Then put a drop of oil in each hole or grease the screws so they can be taken out again easy when they need replacing. It's all looking really good and can't wait to see finished truck.
Pre drill the holes for the deck screws will make it much easier. Getting there. Nice.
I enjoy your show. Great build. Proves being practical with minimal waste is better than being perfect. There’s a million ways to do stuff and doing it your way is great.
I think Chad should cover the gold running boards with same decking boards.
Rock gaurd them i rekon
Cant not gold

The truck deck looks good, great choice to use wood. 👍
No problem, these things happen when you are in too much of a hurry...
Self-tapping screws usually go in better if they turn slowly 😉
Add you a 2×4 under the main floor to support the top boards on the ram.

Chad, you are such a hard worker on all your projects! Your always running with it....
predrilling works wonders brother
I like to use a regular drill bit to pre-drill all the holes

Use a T beam between the upper boards and ramp - making a smooth transition, and weld extensions below the decking and weld them to the frame.
Looking badass!!!! Can’t wait to see Jolene’s race car up on it and a test drive see how it’s going to workout!

Awesome Job Chad! I know when it's done it will function and be 100% everything you guys intended it to be! Love it!
chad i done a lot of decking in my job (joiner) i had a old bosh drill it ran at 950 rpm i found that speed good just saying 50 years in the trade
Lookin good I would definitely plate that joint to
There’s almost as many experts on YT as there is on Facebook!
Not that bad lol, but we do get a few grifters no doubt. 😁👍✌
Drill a pilot hole
Before driving in the deck screws
I would be sure to put some type of sealer on the cut ends. Looks very nice so far.
Pressure treated end cut treatment
Deck paint with non-slip sand added to prevent slipping when moist/wet.
Great progress! Love the project...Great digital filming and fabrication work You imaginative designs become a reality.

Looking great Chad but agree with other comments about a sealer on the boards. Great video once again Jolene. Thank you
Just weld a piece across lol your a smart man been watching u for some time. Don’t over 🤔 it put sheet across the back and call it a day.
Hello Chad & Jolene. I hope that you both have a great day today. The truck looks great with the decking.
The decking is not ok, it is awesome. Looks great and will last forever! Thank you, take care and peace out!
That's going to look so good when it's done you can't wait to see it
Wouldn't the bed look really cool if the rear wheel well opening was a teardrop matching the shape of the new rear end?
Will you be painting it ,Chad? You are magic. I love watching you. Great videos always , Jolene!!!
Chad I do decks for living as well as homes , I can tell you now those boards well shrink
Chad looking good 👍 keep it up love your work of ART!!!!!
Great progress on the deck, it's coming together quite well, thanks for sharing
This truck looks awesome! Can't wait to see what color it ends up
I would consider a metal cap where your boards connect . Your cable will chew that edge up.
I think he will find out that's true.
He needs to seel the end grain with ANCHOR SEAL (brand name)
He’ll have to end up capping those boards on the end of that beaver tail eventually. I would say about a 4”x3” x3/16” thick metal angle. They’ll warp and rot on the ends plus it will give it a finished look.
True...you'll end up redoing it

Put a Ratchet Strap around them to pull the Boards over (together) works great.
Look’s good Chady, hope the metal got primed before you put the decking on.
I like it.
Maybe that piece of steel is harder than the others
Hay Chad when you get to the exaust..deleat the mufflers, that old flat head will sound great and i know you'll be HAPPY...Keep up the great work...
Thicker metal,pre- drill with a high speed dril bit. Food for thought
Welcome to Bad Chad's woodworking shop 👍
if you ever have to get the gaps between your boards tighter in the future use a ratchet strap to squeeze em together works like a charm
Hey Chad and Jolene. Chad, if you'd use a piece of metal over the boards where the transition it would serve to things. Strengthen the joint and keep the winch cable from digging into the wood decking.
That’s probably gonna be my favorite build
Great work Chad you and Jolene are the best 👌.
Truck bed looks sensational Chad. Great job. Love that you do EVERYTHING yourself 👍
Drill speed is very important , to fast is not good, to slow is not good. Have to find the right speed 👍
Looking great Chad. Love it a lot. We call that a dove tail here. But call it what you want. Great video Jolene.
Put a plate all the way across that seam. It will also strengthen it up where the cable rides across.
Great job!!! It'll look amazing finished!!!
I like the looks of this, great work!
It is looking great can’t wait to see it all done
Looks great,I’m building a 1952 ford coe ramp truck to haul my hot rods.your shows awesome.
Like the look of the Wood Deck! Great Job 👍!
When those boards shrink, ( they will) you can add pickup truck style ribs over the gaps and properly bolt it all together.
How are you two doing today? The boards I used on my COE bed were 2x6x12 and they were so twisted, I had to use ratchet straps to get them somewhat straight. A weather strip would help where the tail meet would help with hiding gap and also help with the vehicle not to slip while you are loading the car
U harden the hole use a split point drill bit and pre drill it god bless you Chad and jolen
Love what you do and give me some good ideas thanks for your channel love it
GREAT WORK BAD Dude!🦾🔩🗜️
Where you butted the boards together the ramp boards are going to warp...maybe a strip of metal to cover the seem
A 80 or 100 tooth saw blade will give you a smoother cut
GOOD WORK CHAD WERE DOING 1974 F350 FLAT BED
This dude definitely makes some fantastic yard art that thing isnt capable

Looks so close to 1948 what a great job Love it!
yup looks good for a deck truck, definitely cap the joint and it will close it over nice and yes give the winch cable a good run spot

Really great to see the progress. Wood decks are more functional than steel, less slippery.
I like the birds eye view Jolene has. Nice job Jolene.... all the time
Enjoyed your video thanx. Keep them coming.
Good decking mate. Super camera work as usual Jolene.
Slow the drill down it will work better, love your work
Liking the look of the deck, still a few things needed for carrying cars, but its getting there
looks so sick cant wait to see it finished
I’m loving it Chad. Something to be proud of!
Looking good sir !! Going to b a great hauler
Looking good. Keep up the hard work you two
Come on Chad. Either predrill the holes or use self cutting metal screws like they use to put metal on buildings, but with tapered heads for flush mounting.
He is using Self Taping Screws that Drill through Steel
Yes pay attention
You might want to seal the wood but put some abrasive in the sealer, those deck boards are going to be slick as heck
You could of made you a z hanger out of 14ga along the seam to screw through and to hold down the deck boards on the tail end
Nice job buddy ,I watched the whole video. Don't force the cut let the blade do the cutting.i wanted so badly to tell you to put bed liner on both sides to preserve the wood.

He put rock guard on everything metal, and the wood will shrink and make its own gap
Chad sprayed the steel frame work with rock guard before putting deck down.

The decking looks great. Chad and Jolene will have a really unique setup when it is done.
yea it does its awesome hahaa
chat. I think the steel is a little harder in those places. So pre-drilling might be helpful. Am a drill very small.
Add metal from left to right to support the wood at the joining seam. Just my opinion.
It’s starting to come together! 😉
