We're presently towing with a Hyundai Tucson 2litre diesel 4WD / 6speed manual / Coachman 560 with a Miro of 1447kg. Recently returned from a month of touring North East of England and both car and caravan were very stable and well matched.
No worries Martin, from a fellow scouser, I’m in L11.Where away this weekend in ours to Donkey Creek, give it a go it’s literately an hour away if you’ve not been and it’s immaculate.
Nice to see some honest straight up advice without people comparing with their huge tow cars..! I have a Bailey Cartagena and don’t want a huge thirsty tow car as we don’t get away as much as I would like. After watching this and a few other clips I will be buying the Kuga 180 awd automatic, it’s a 90% match but way below fords max towing limit and as a hgv driver shouldn’t be a problem. Keep up the good work and safe travels 👍
Thanks for the kind comments pal. I'm sure you'll be happy with it and as a HGV driver, a wouldn't care less about the matching. As someones' who's towing experience was pulling light trailers with Fiesta's on, the Kuga tows our 1400kg Abbey without stopping for breath and as a newcomer, I find it a doddle. Never for me, drops below 30mpg towing and is well into the early 40's solo. Thanks for watching and enjoy the rest of the summer 👍😀
Thanks for the kind comment Oliver. I must say, we love our Kuga, stable and has plenty of poke when need be. The only thing that I think lets it down is the boot space. Although like you, we won't be getting rid of it any time soon. Cheers for watching 🙂 Martin & Jo.
Great vlog Martin, We took our kuga out for the 1st time this weekend and totally agree with you, felt great and pulls the van no problem Average 34.8 mpg so alot better than our antara 21.9 mpg, 👍
1779MTPLM on our Bailey Alicante Grande Porto, and we tow with a 2016 Kuga, 2.0 180 AWD auto, it tows absolutely fine. It’s a match of 94% on the weight but we’re okay with that. Not had any wind problems either, although if the van didn’t have ATC, I wonder if my story would be different? Thanks, Andy and Kim
That's reassuring to know that even with a higher match than us at the moment, things don't get too flighty at the back 😁 So when we do come to upgrade the 'van, probably a heavier one, we don't need to change the car either! Thanks for taking the time to comment and look forward to getting the goodies in the post 😊 Martin & Jo.
Hi i found this vidio due to wanting to confirm we purchased the corect car for us our caravan and luggage is between 1300kg and 1500kg depending what we take we normaly tow with our 1995 vauxhall cavalier she can tow 1600kg but recently the poor old girl has started to feel slugish in her old age so we went and got a ford kuga titanium 2015 with a capability of towing 1900kg im not only new to the car but im new to newer cars than a 2000 reg vehicle so its a whole new expireance again thankyou for your quick view but ill look into it more fingers crossed we done the right thing retireing the old girl
We are using VW Tiguan but must say such a hard ride end up with backache Just ordered Ford Kuga 2lt Diesel 190ps Auto S Line X AWD Mainly because our Tiguan only had 150ps and Kuga has 190ps which will be better for towing and more comfortable seats Got really good reviews as a tow car as well
Hiya Tina! The Kuga is the only tow car we've had and used for a caravan but I've got to say, the ride and for ours at least, itsn't hard or jarring at all. Even with 150PS, we pull our 1400kg van along in 6th on the motorway no problem at all. Thanks for taking the time to comment and hope that your new tow cars' all well and good. Happy holidays 😀 Mart & Jo
I was apprehensive at first Dave but after a few miles, I realised there wasn't anything to worry about. Keep an eye on your speed and mirrors and it all behaves itself.
Hi we have a kuga mk1 titanium 163ps diesel and pulls our caravan with MTPLM of 1437 like a dream also.very sturdy on the rd and goes up hills with ease .....very pleased with her.think if I do change her for a newer model a will probably go for a kuga again....don't tell the wife 😉😂😂Steve.
Thanks for commenting Steve! I actually prefer the mk1 with the more rounded back end. Glad to hear you're happy with it and if you upgrade, your secrets safe with me 😉😁 Thanks for watching. Martin & Jo
Love the Kuga I have the same car as you, but the auto version. Get on the motorway stick it on cruise control and unless we hit heavy traffic I leave it in cruise control. Before that we had a Kia Sedona 2.2 automatic people carrier, this pulled the caravan equally as well. But did not have cruise control.
Cheers Glyn, cruise here too all the time pal. Our next car will be an Auto for certain. I've had 30 odd years of pressing clutches so now it's time to give my leg a break 😁 Thanks for watchin! Martin & Jo.
Hello I did have look at the Kuga and really liked it as I did with some other manufacturers but eventually settled with the yeti ? Is it a perfect match ? Well almost but there some dislikes on the yeti but in the main it tows well and works well as a solo too Stable tow at 97% match but not much boot space! Cheers Gav
Cheers Gav, good to see you mate. Hope alls' well. Intersting that even at a "high" match ratio, it's still nice and stable. Even though the Kuga is a fair sized car, the boots' not exactly massive and we still have bits and bobs on the back seat too. Thanks for watching 🙂
Hiya Graham. Not off hand to be honest. Without teaching my granny to suck eggs, Google "CASSOA" and, caravan storage Liverpool. On Google maps too, narrow your search area down and type caravan storage into that. It's surprising how many come up! Fingers crosssed you find one 🙂 Martin & Jo.
Hi Anthony 🙂 They certainly seem a popular tow car and with a warranty like that too, I'm not surprised! Nice to have the peace of mind 😀 Thanks for taking the time to comment 👍 Martin & Jo
Nice little natter. We have towed with all sorts of cars. The Landrover wins every time but Ford and Volvo never let us down. Don’t mention Vauxhall and Kia 😝 Just our experience. Hope you are towing soon 👍🏻 Trev
I just bought a 2013 Ford kuga 2litre diesel to tow our 4 berth lightweight caravan.. I’m assuming this will be good enough? We had a Vauxhall insignia 2 litre diesel first time towing and the engine blew 20 minutes into our journey so I’m so afraid I’ll damage my new kuga. 😭 please put my mind at ease before our next trip
Dear me Terri, sorry to hear that! Like you, I've seen a fair few Insigina's towing up and down the motorway. I'd like to think you'd be fine with the Kuga, but advice wise, it's the only tow car we've ever had. The higher spec (160+bhp) 4WD Kuga's seem to be more popular, although we've not had any problems with our 2WD 150. Be interesting to know how you get on with it 👍
Thanks for letting us know folks. The Mondeo, from what I remember seeing around and abouts was a popular tow car up and down the motorway's too! Martin & Jo
Daft error, it's 150PS - Not 100PS!

Going to look at a Kuga tomorrow, your video has given me confidence. 👍

Lad, I miss you so much. Never forgotten xxx
Nice little vlogg. I (Kaz) love towing with the van because of the elevated view of the road 👍🏻😀xx
Thanks Kaz! I remember towing even trailers with a van, and yeah, the high position was great 😀 Thanks for the comment.
We’ve got the 180ps Vignale. Love ours loads won’t be going for a while. Great video, cheers Oliver.

34.8 is really good when its got the caravan on the back. I get 30 and not a penny more!
I’m on to my 2nd Kuga
First was 2.0 diesel auto AWD
Now I have 1.5 petrol auto AWD and both have been superb
Cheers Bob. Do you tow with the 1.5 petrol?
@@ItchyFeetcaravanners yip
@@ItchyFeetcaravanners Max tow 1850
Wow it just goes to show, petrol's have came a long way. Cheers for letting us know Bob 😊
@@ItchyFeetcaravanners you don’t need to tow with diesels lol
Hi Martin. Its so important in getting the car to match the caravan. Looks like you've got the right combination for your set up. Happy travels 😎👍
Cheers Paul. I was a bit squeeky bum at first about towing but it's turned out to be a great combo! Thanks for watching 😁 Martin & Jo
