We had our time to complain when ownership didn’t do what it needed to do, but that time to complain is over. It’s day 1 of the regular so It’s time to be optimistic! Corbin ... Love your ongoing upbeat enthusiasm going into this new season ... Your positive mindedness is so much more enjoyable to follow in comparison to the continuous "doom and gloom" coming from traditional Boston sports media TV and radio coverage ...
However as you have well highlighted, starting pitching will be the deciding factor if our Red Sox are to have a decent season ... Though Andrew Bailey should be a positive coaching addition and factor in getting the most out of this pitching staff, realistically I still unfortunately don't envision this rotation managing to "stay on the mound" consistently again this season by providing five plus innings each outing ...
"Red Sox Nation" prepare yourselves to be watching a lot of high run scoring games over these next six months ... Thank God for this new "pitch clock" ! ...
Hopefully this 2024 Red Sox team can manage to win more than they lose ... I also hope that Alex Cora will take a positive minded "long view" of the organization and its very promising future upside and remain as Red Sox manager for 2025 and beyond ...

I'm calling 3rd place behind Baltimore and Toronto. I think they will start off great and fade because of pitching depths and injury history of some of the current starters. They'll barely miss out on the wild card and will end the season on an optimistic note with all of the young stars. Let's go Sox.

Hey Corbin. I see things a lot different than the current consensus. Tug McGraw once said You Gotta Believe ! I see a bullpen thats way above average here. I see an up and coming starting rotation consisting of young pitchers learning their trade. I do think they will perform better than currently thought. Statistics don't take into account the learning and progress made from last season. I realize Pivetta is the elder statesman there but I like his stuff too. This bullpen could very well pick up some slack as the starting rotation continues to develop and evolve. This bullpen has some extremely talented arms in it. Many are missing that fact. In my mind I think we will have no trouble at all scoring runs. Lots of good weapons in the lineup. Plenty of speed and power. Defense has definitely been upgraded big time . Knowing that our defensive magician Rafaela can play both outfield and infield is great and good insurance. I am also glad our big 3 will be continuing development in Wooster. They are there should the need arise. Also look for the Redsox to take either Hagen Smith or Chase Burns in the 2024 baseball draft. Both very good pitchers. See you tonight Corbin. Go Sox !!!!!

That said, it is hard to listen to you do your full-on best to paint an optimistic picture and still only come up with, "maybe we'll be in the fight for a wildcard." Two things you didn't mention: Cora is a great manager and players love to play for him. He is a master of getting players to believe in themselves. In baseball sometimes a guy gets thrust into a starting role due to injuries or whatever. Then the AA or journeyman starts doing the job but plays up to the competition and level And the player becomes the guy. That guy may have never achieved big club status yet now he's playing at an all star level and begins to believe this is who is now
This happens often in baseball! An example is some of our SP get off to a hot start and build confidence and believe in their stuff and become a league leader by just being confident that they are this good.
Success breeds confidence and confidence breeds success.

    Happy opening day!
It depends on the definition of “competitive” - a deep playoff run or winning the division are both almost certainly off the table.
Wildcard contention: quite possible. We’ll need to avoid injuries, consistent leadership from Trevor Story and tangible progress from the young core.
You only need to look at recent postseasons to know that winning a division has never mattered less. Honestly, it’s quite plausible that all of the AL wildcards come from the AL east.
One thing is for sure: it’ll be fun to see how it all works out. I’ll be looking forward to your videos!

Good job, Corbin! There is no question that the starting pitching is an unknown at this point. The rest of the team is solid. The problem area is at 2nd base. Cora says they will platoon there until Grissom is ready. Reyes and Rafaela will play there as well. Rafaela looked really good at 2nd in Dallas. That move he made to get the lead runner out was special.I'm not that worried about pitching. My big concern is how long they can stay healthy. My prediction remains the same. The record coming out of the month of April will herald the season. If they come out of April with a winning record if will be a good year.

I’m optimistic for the Red Sox this season, I think their defense and hitting has improved from last year. I’m really disappointed ownership didn’t sign Jordan Montgomery who was working out in Boston all winter and wouldn’t add him to the rotation on a shorter term deal. Also Michael Lorenzen could’ve helped their starting pitching and at least put them in the mix. This is a slap in the face to us real fans. Breslow is dumpster diving and if this staff has injuries there is no depth in the minors to help. Let me tell you a little story about the N.Y. Mets . Back in 1968 they finished with a record of 73 wins and 89 losses. 9th place in the national league. :). A young pitching staff was in place for the next year in 1969. They went on to beat the heavily favored Baltimore Orioles in the world series that year 4 games to 1. There was a lot of baseball talk in my high school classes at the time. When I predicted they would make the playoffs that year some of my friends chuckled . When they made the playoffs they were stunned. Mets ended up sweeping the Braves in the playoffs and the Orioles of course were none too happy in the world series. Hard to believe that Orioles team managed to win only one game. In the year prior (1968)Tigers pitcher Denny McClain actually won 31 games. A left hander named Mickey Lolich was the Tigers hero in the world series that year. You never know. Go Redsox !!!!!!!

Theres one concept I've been mulling over.
To touch base on one known. Its the next man up. The knowledge that if one of the starting 9 goes down. You know you have a capable spot starter. If one of the rotation pieces goes down. You know theres a spot starter.
But what if there was a counter point? Like a next man down mentality? Well. That is what the Red Sox have happened into subverting. Because if they sign Jorge Soler. Everyone has to wonder if they are "next man down" to make room for Soler. If they sign Montgomery and Snell. Then each guy can only speculate.
That's just me finding a silver lining. Plus, its something I think about when the sox ultimately do sign a Carl Crawford or Trevor Story or Lucas Giolito.
All of these concepts could be easily diminished by this year trading deadline if they end up being buyers. But for now thats what I look at.

Baring any major injuries, I think the Sox should be competitive in the first half of the season, they have shown that over the last 2 seasons, the 2nd half will all depend on health and if Management will finally want to add players at the trade deadline again. You do have a lot of what if's in order to be competitive and those same if can be in reverse too. What if Casas, Duran, Masa and Abreu all take steps back from the impressive seasons they had last year? With newer and young players that happens a lot. Look back to many of the greats and you can see in the first 4 seasons there were a lot of ups and downs from year to year. I do agree that the Sox have a pretty good Bullpen, let's hope that injuries to starters and number of innings pitched doesn't do what it did last year. It is so hard to tell this early. You also need to figure out how long will the arms hold up for? Most of the pitchers (Starters) don't have a track record of throwing many innings and that wears them down towards the end of a season. This is kind of why I think it's more realistic that they still will finish in either 4th or 5th again in the east. Also I don't know if you saw that there have been a few articles released lately of simulated seasons, and on average I believe the Sox finished 5th and with only 75 wins. I am hoping the baseball Gods are listening to you and have all those ifs go our way, but if not then hopefully we get some stretches of exciting ball playing from our guys.

    Simmer down Corbin lol
There will be a lot of 10-9 wins, and i’ll be here to watch our offense but…
It is the swan song for Alex Cora, he simply has enough of this sh*t. He will go somewhere else where they will do everything to win and getting the big bucks for it. Such a bad look after seing the lack of interest from the league in the search for a Bloom successor. The Boston Red Sox business image has taken a big hit in the last years.
They didn’t want to pay for starting pitcher(s), they didn’t want to trade for starter(s), they don’t really develop either ( the last great one was Lester).
To me, a Boston Red Sox team who’s not expected to win 90 games is simply unacceptable….i love my team, love the game of baseball but our over/under is at 77.5….enough said.
