No one will ever have the signature that Gary Rossington had with a glass slide on the neck of a Gibson to Free Bird. Truly remarkable man with so much feeling in his music....
Metlock originally played drums 1971 to 1972, so as long as he's there and a Van Zandt on vocals, I'll go see them. But for sure losing Gary is the end of an era.
As sick as Gary was he still played awesome and displayed why he was the best! God Bless you Gary and thank you for all your hard work and gifts through the years!
Measuring an essence of time for a person on this planet is very hard to do, but we all know it goes to fast. I have heard so many people talk about Skynyrd, and my wife asked me one day, why are they so popular yet never had a No.1 hit? To each their own, but to me they were always there, whether you hear a song in a bar, at a party, or just riding around with a friend. I am a recovering addict, 18 years clean now. Their songs were a lot of strength and encouragement. I miss those days and always will of getting good and ripe and dancing to "Three Steps" or marinating in the sun at the gravel pit while swimming listening to the whole "One For/From The Road". I really never understood the grasp this band had over me, and still does, until one day I realized the songs were much like I was raised. Both sides of my family owned bars, and the music was a combination of country(which i was raised on) and rock(which i liked). The songs were mostly written in large by events I had also experienced, "Comin Home" speaking of sleeping on the streets, "Simple Man" Getting advise and guidance from a mom. I love that Johnny has taken on and went the extra mile to fulfil what the rest of the band members needed, but time gets us all sooner or later. And if I do leave here tomorrow, I don't know if they will remember me, but I know Ill go grateful to have had such spirit, guidance and entertainment as the men in this band have been. Age is speaking to me louder and louder, but that's ok, I'll leave here with a tear and a smile, Skynyrd has a way of doing that to me. RIP Gary, and all the ones of the past. I thank you all......
They might haven't ever had a #1 hit in any charts but they sure were AND STILL ARE #1 to soooo many!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️ congrats on your 18 yrs!! Stay strong!!
@@cherylsmith-zw7pe Thank you!!! It's been well worth it. A man once told me drug addiction is a form of three things, curiosity, which killed the cat, selfishness which needs no introduction, and stupidity, because since the hippies started the drug culture in the 1960s as experimental as they called it, decades of people have lost their lives since. Man that was beautiful, we all have our struggles and your no less of a man than the president of the United States , that was a touching comment you left and hit me right in the heart ! Lost my dad 2 years ago and he loved and played all music but as you said there’s a synyrd song in background of life 🙏🏻
Play it pretty Gary. Freaking tears in my eyes watchng this. They used the same visuals linked with the music they were playing when I saw them here in Alpharetta GA in 2019. Tears my heart out to know there will be another name and another candle next time I see them. RIP Gary. Fly high freebird with your fellow bandmates in heaven.
RIP Gary Rossington, the songs you write with your soul will live on forever. thank you for everything. You are a true legend. Fly high Free Bird Brother🕊
Killer triple threat on guitars (Rossington, Collins, King). As far as I'm concerned, they did it first. Rock in Peace Gary. "That Smell", easily one of the greatest rock guitar tunes ever written.
My heart is heavy there all gone now but Ronnie wood be so proud of his brother there are no words for it but prayers and love to you all thanks for caring on the lynyard skynyard band the best band there is and ever was love you guys
God Bless you Gary and thanks for all of the music and sticking with it for so many years. I know you are with the Lord. Thank you also to the rest of the band for keeping this music live.
I just heard now that Gary past away this sucks man because now all the original members are no longer with us but he’s in peace now for that we can be grateful Gary tell Ronnie and the others that we said hello and we miss and love them just as we miss and love you May you fly high into the gates of Heaven and May Jesus Greet you Rest In Peace Free Bird
Just wanted to say all the members from the original Lynyrd Skynyrd are in heaven they got their wings keep on playing freebird we love you all God bless everyone in the whole Lynyrd Skynyrd family.
Give credit where credit is due >>>> great Free Bird soloing by Ricky Medlocke! RIP Gary.........you were a legend, and will always live on in our hearts!
My inspiration for teaching myself to play. Since I was 15, I wanted a les paul, solely because gary played one (even though he has an SG here). I just wanted to make it to see him play before he passed, and got to do that at the coca cola 600 in 2022. Didn't even care about the race; bought tickets only for those 4 songs they played.
Thoughts and 🙏🏻go out to his family and the band he was and alway will be Alsome of his performances threw the years very Thankful for the times in Roanoke va see em his tunes will live on 💞
Any one notice over the last couple of years, Gary looked out into the crowds. Sometimes he motioned to an audience member. He absolutely very rarely did that in the decades before.
Gary guitar reminds me being a kid at the local dance.Freebird was Allways the last song.If you were lucky enough to have a girl to dance with. This Song was about getting some Ass! Lol! Thanks guys I'm 57 now and still think of that! By Gary!! Fly on!
Ik all original members are gone now and its just a cover band now and truly they should call it quits but they are keeping the music alive for Gary, Ronnie and everyone else associated with the original band... But if anything happens to Dale, Rickey or Johnny the band would definitely be done for good
Did you see "The Cross" around Gary Rossington's neck? Praise God for a man who has the guts to not be ashamed of his "True Identity" Blessed Be The Name Of The Lord.
These jokers blow ......the lead singer is a hack......Ronnie could fart this song better.....i cannot believe they are still playing now in 2023 with ZERO original members. If i want to see a great tribute ill see APB in an intimate room.....scott raines qnd his friends do it better than anyone else plus artie's drumming lends authenticity to the tunes ......they are the best tribute to Ronnie Van Zandt's Skynyrd hands down

Amen brother gray was truly the best guitarist to ever walk the face of the earth
The way he made the notes roll when playing that slide is incredible. You can just instantly tell Gary playing
Absolutely 100 percent agree
Gary playing his final Freebird while the video of Ronnue singing ... so many years ago in 1977 Oakland concert.

One thing is for certain, Rickey Medlocke can definitely shred that lead

It chilled me to the bone listening to the part with Ronnie singing 😯 I got to see these guys once and I’m glad I did.
They are doing a fine job carrying on. Respecting the founders and legacy. Blood is thicker than water and it is there with Johnny.
Johnny is a good man, gets a bad rap even though he always said he didn’t replace Ronnie, Johnny is a class act
Free Bird is the perfect snapshot of a 1970s concert guitar rock band performance. Gary Rossington is one of the Kings of that era and beyond. RIP

*lynyrd skynyrd. Glad I got to see them play this live before Gary passed.
Cried happy tears. Thanks so much for all the music and memories. American doesn't deserve guys like you anymore.
His playing was still great and you gotta respect Johnny's performance.
What is not to love about this!!!! ❤ Rest in Peace Gary! You did good 🎸

RIP Gary Rossington...you are now as free as a bird.

Ricky Medlocke isn’t an original member but he is almost near original as he played drums from 1971-1972.
Heard from my Rev...GRs amp, guitar where gone that morning..the all in heaven tour is on
I imagine him being laid to rest with that "Coricidin" slide in his left hand (and a smoke in his right)
RIP Gary ❤🦅✝️🎶
He wore all Black. Its Almost like Foreshadowing 😢 God I love this Band and Im so thankful for them having Existed.
He always wore all black but it wasn't his last concert

We will always miss you Gary, but will listen to your music to the end!! I wonder who got that last pick??
Wonder if thats the original hat ronnie wore back then? He is still a musical genius and will forever be missed and never forgotten.
I Wonder how many times Gary played Freebird the same way the same sound no one can do it better
I would love to see the Battle flag representing
The south will rise again!
Heyee
They are a full fledged cover band now. RIP LS

They're keeping it alive for the money that's all.
He still had the broke screwdriver under the strings ..
Rip gary
When It was recorded?
If this is last show, what is date and location he played
I thought the Ryman was the last time Gary played. I question the validity of this being his last show

What was the date and location of this concert?
This is in Atlanta 2021
