Now that's a good story, and told by one of the best voices in the business.

So glad you guys had the talk with Mr. Cash! You made my 86 year old Mom’s night on December 23rd 9f 2021! It was my birthday as well. Memories we will never forget! God bless you all. ☺️🙏🏼💜 Prayers for good health, happiness, and even more success.

This is interesting because Johnny Cash helped make the Statler Brothers into stars.
The two premier country 4-man singing combos credit him!

Sturban always looked the youngest but man he's aged pretty hard while the others still look fairly well. That bass is clearly there though LOL

@D Allen Don't like the way he wore his hair; makes him look too much like a hippie.

I got to see him and the Boys in 2019 and yes, that voice is still there. It was a great performance.

You can do country and still keep your faith in GOD. Always put GOD first. That is how the Statlers did it. Include a gospel track on each record and then from time to time do a gospel record. My son's mother only knows this group of Oaks. I sent her the whole Oak Ridge Boys collection from 1930s till 2010. She thought I was making this up. Then she started looking up the Oaks from the 60s.

Yes he is. First glimpse of his eyes, it looks like he's been drinking heavily. His eyes look so bloodshot and glossy. I doubt that's the case, but it was just my first impression. I grew up on the Oak Ridge boys. I love em more now than ever. The represent real country and you WILL NOT FIND THAT IN TODAY'S GARBAGE. IMO OF COURSE.

@@gordroberge3824 The Statler Brothers stayed together almost as long. They were formed in 1955 with Joe McDorman as their lead singer before Harold Reid's little brother, Don took over in 1961. The boys started out touring with Johnny Cash in 1964, staying with him until 1972 when they (amicably) parted ways with him and went out on their own. The group's world was rocked in 1982 when their longtime tenor and guitarist Lew DeWitt retired due to ill health and was subsequently replaced by Jimmy Fortune. With Jimmy on board the boys continued to record and tour until their retirement on October 26, 2002, when they gave a farewell concert in Salem, Virginia, only 85 miles from their hometown of Staunton. It might be a good idea for you to listen to the single We Got Paid By Cash (1980) to hear about how the Statlers got started.
