      Starting position is a lot important in races. Starting in the lead or in the group will make two different races

      the later parts through the woods seem more dangerous, you might break a couple of bones sliding off the snow or dirt at 100kmh, but if you hit a tree at 60kmh, you're dead.

      Some of those turns aren't very well marked. Imagine not seeing anyone for a while and thinking you're in first, then it turns out you're on the completely wrong trail 😂😭

      I'm a former cross country and track runner and seeing those guys go up those hills on the bikes gave me flashbacks to the horrid burning in my legs running up trails. Props to them they are great!

    I always cheer for Kilian because he's strong in every aspect of these races, including climbing and going downhill on pavement, and also because he's so self-aware of his camera which he checks every 5mn to make sure nothing obstructs our view.😎

      It's very intelligent, at any point some water or dirt could cover the cam and he wouldn't notice and it would ruin the footage. He wipes it seemingly randomly, when given the chance

      Many proffesional athlets wouldn't risk their lives.
      Todays Olympic competitions are safe enough. And here you can break your nect at any time just for little little mistake. Or beak something like knee and its the end of your pro sports career.

    This is the most beautiful trail I've ever seen. You seem to know the track extremely well, with all the little tricks and shortcuts especially in the last part down to Vénosc. Congratulations!

    Moral of the story, if you don't know the race track inside out, don't even think about competing for top 5. Look how he knows exactly where he can pedal downhill and where to take turns, where special shortcuts are. He knows this route inside out, the tough parts are at beginning, trying to not end up in one of the many mass crashes, and the parts where you actually need endurance because it's going up hill.
    Once the terrain becomes normal dirt/gravel and always going downhill, it's about memorizing the route. 22:50 is what i mean. When he finally catches up with the leader

      @@Ach476 I believe you can ride up or down this mountain any time you want on a normal day, like the Megavalanche race is just a public mountain bike trail as well on normal days, just in an amazing location ;)

    This reminds me of the best part of doing cross-country. I don’t do it anymore since I got discouraged after four years and not feeling any improvement, but I loved the competitions. Especially reaching the points along the way and people cheering for you... I loved the rush of adrenaline. This video almost inspired me to go back to it, but I don’t think I could. I also did basketball, but when I was cut from a team I stopped.
    (that team lost their season terribly, anyways.)

    I see everyone talk about his race, which I must say was fucking epic, but we are all missing the point here... what we really need is someone in the middle of the 300 other riders so we can see the most amazing falls of 30 ppl crashing into each other in the first 500 meters, I bet that 30% of the riders didnt manage to get out of the snow because of the piles of ppl falling on top of each other and damaging their bikes or their own body. Another epic video is out there that shows this, for sure, we must find it! We had the pro perspective, now we need the newbies

      As long as you go through the pink flags it’s alright. For example you’l see here 4:50 he cuts multiple corners but still goes through the flags which is fine.

    ... Anyone that can do this is incredible in every sense of the word ... My hats off to them and this guy to show how intense you must be every second of that run ...     I guess seeing the turns on the course is much clearer with your own eyes then on camera, because watching this it seems the turns are not at all clear. Crazy.

      That's definitely true. That goes for all dash cams and whatnot. You notice this especially with motorcycle cams in traffic with situations that make the riders look insane but in person, it's not quite as nuts are out appears on camera. Makes the video more thrilling though!

    Definitely enjoyed how you picked your own lines and used your fitness level to your advantage on those straights. You definitely knew that course. That sucks for the other guy but you were catching him anyway.

    I find your video great, we really feel like we're with you on the bike.
    A lot of risk taking in this extreme discipline. Great control of your bike which is certainly going with great concentration. Best wishes. I really enjoyed this descent, where we could only stay hooked so much there are tensions, severely very absorbing.

      They were going almost 80 MPH at times so the traveled a lot of miles in 30 minutes. If there average speed was 50 MPH they would have traveled 25 miles.
