10 freaking years of knife reviewing .. 👏 👏 👏... 👏 👏 👏 👏 Seriously Pete ,thats pretty dang amazing. It is really weird looking back at all the old vids . Its been a great journey brother and I truly appreciate all the hard work . Thanks man ! Keep on trucking along .
Sit down to lunch and fire up a C&A video. Excellent! Look away for a moment to down a mouthful of leftover chilli, look back, and Pete is happily unzipping a fat rat in the dirt. Pause. Frown. Shrug. Keep eating. Not quite a jump scare, but it sure got my attention!😊
Just what we needed. Knife review with shirtless ratcatcher Pete ! No time now to watch full video so apologize for the short veiwing time. Just had to click to see what I will be watching later when tasks are done.
Was listening to my favorite podcast about my favorite team in my favorite sport and saw the notification that Pete uploaded a video… immediately paused the pod and loaded the video
Have really appreciated not only how you test, but how you present the value. You get that you are a knife nut and that everyone needs to be aware of what their needs and budgets are. Well done.
I like these kind of reviews. How the knife has fit into your life. No going out of your way to cut stuff you wouldn’t otherwise, pure necessity. I hope to make knives like this some day. Something with an undeniable value. Rarely inspired, am now.
Thanks Pete for yet again an awesome review. I like this style of review more than the -out of the box/one week in the pocket- reviews. You taking the actual time to do a long extensive review means a lot more to us viewers. You covered basically everything. The only question I can come up with now is: Do you have more knives or more animals? haha XD Cheers Pete have a good one!
I really appreciate the time, effort and abuse you put into this review, Pete. Including that rat was simply going above and beyond! Having tried a friend's Polheim, for this particular form factor, i.e. a 4" fixed blade in MagnaCut, I like the Reiff F4 with canvas micarta scales much better. For my XXL hand, the grip on the F4 is superior for me in terms of fit, comfort and extended use. Thanks!
Thanks for a thorough review of this knife, it’s good to know that it has ben extensively tested. If there is one thing I really don’t like, it’s all the “out of the box” knife reviews where the knife hasn’t even been tested once. Keep up the good work, you’re honest reviews are always appreciated
Thanks very much, Pete, for a very thorough review. It may please TRC to know that I will take a good look at this knife, even though smaller fixed blades are not my thing. Glad to see you back on the review track again! Follow up: I checked several sites here in the US and it was out of stock and every one.
Solid vid, solid review, good eating. I've been considering this knife for a while, even when it was offered in Elmax. It's nice to see it in Magnacut that clearly has been well heat treated. Keep up the good work.
The TRC Pohlheim is a absolutely great knife, I like the Pohlheim very much, but my favorite knife from TRC is the South Pole (I own 4 South Pole: 2x Elmax, 1x Vanadis 4 Extra and 1x M390). The TRC Classic Freedom Full Flat is also a very good EDC knife.
Hi, I own a South Pole Elmax and a This is Freedom in M390, since you own two i have a question for you, do you have any issue with rusting on the Elmax South Poles? I'm now getting to buy a Polheim couse i would expect better corrosion resistance and for my use i find the South Pole a little too thick and long, so Polheim might be better couse the size is a little smaller. I'm a hunter and any time I use my south pole and do not wash and dry it very well right after use i then find small rust stains on it after only 4-5 hours. On the TIF in M390 i never never had any rust stain, but i have noticed that Elmax on South pole has a much better edge retention and i absolutly like better the grip on the handle of the South Pole
@@francescochiapponi1208 I own several knives in Elmax, from TRC I own four: 2x South Pole (the older version with screwed handle scales and a new version with Apo finish), an Apocalypse and a Speed Demon (older version in Elmax, the new are in M390). So far I had no problems with Elmax and corrosion, not with the TRC knives and not with knives from other manufacturers. Elmax is actually well corrosion resistant, Elmax has 18 % chrome in the alloy and for example M390 has 20 % chrome in the alloy. The difference in corosion resistance should actually be minimal! I am not a hunter and have no experience with blood and steels. With fruit, vegetables or plant juices on the blades with Elmax I had never corrosion.
G'day Pete, very noooice !!!!!! Re; price. by way of comparison, my Bravo 1.5 in S35 was 400+ AUD, but shipping from the states was a decent chunk of that. So, its not too bad if free, or in country, shipping is applied IMO. Though I do reckon it'd be better again with solid rivets and a dangler loop. Thanks for the look and testing mate. Cheers Duke.
Well Youre right while pointing out that workers were not exploited while making The knife you reviewed. Its just better If you buy knives that are made with some love. 😊
Very very nice knife. I have heard much good stuff about magnacut. But have yet to own anything in magnacut. Got a Fallkniven in Elmax though. One day 🇦🇺 🇳🇿
While I haven’t had the best luck with Magnacut, I absolutely love my old TRC Classic Freedom (4.75” version in M390). Been hoping to see the original Mille Cuori 5” come out Uncoated...And the TRC Apocalypse has evaded me so far, in the version I would like anyway. Well done Pete...
I am that freak buyer.. I have various folders of varying quality but I have just ordered the south pole in magnacut as my first proper fixed blade :D Yes I am an idiot but a well informed idiot lol. And no I bought it before watching this video. I am definitely glad that I haven't made a shite decision and it has the seal of approval XD.
Great in depth review there Pete, as always funny and a honest opinion. I really like your videos, i was eager to see a new one of yours :p I'd like to suggest a potential review: Viper handy. A more compact fixed blade in magnacut, the ergos are really impressive. Thanks for your good work!
I want me some of that Magnacut, just not prepared to pay for it. Until it comes down in price I'll stick with 14C28N and my traditional folders. Love your vids.
I am curious to know if those blemishes are surface stains or actual pits into the steel. Kuhn Rikon Swiss Cleaner will remove surface blems from stainless, but it will only decrease the surface portion of an actual pit. I was very happy to see that some of the pet food actually made it into the bins.😉 THANKS for the video, Pete!!
Most Magnacut is pretty easy to sharpen (Tactile, Hogue, Protech and other brands i tried) but i have a custom at 65hrc and it was near impossible to sharpen it. It just glides on most stones (diamond bonded and plated, SiC, Alox) that I tried, until i used a cheap 800 grit boron carbide stone of Amazon (been my go to touch up stone alongside 6 micron Gunny Juive on 3M Micropore medical tape strop) and it was finally able to cut it. Its not s90v at 63-64 or s125v levels of bad, but its up there.
Yikes,$400! I couldn’t pull the trigger on that.$200 is my comfort zone, but I will never get the quality for that amount of money, that the try gets you.have been looking at the bark river Aurora, and the fallkniven f1xelmax,but they are to expensive too.anyway I look forward to your videos! Cheers from Canada
The Kiwi's got The Lord of the Rings and the Aussie's ended up with the lord of the (onion rings). Surprised you never mention playing any open world survival games given your rl interests. That is a nice looking knife and I do love magnacut so far. I may add it to my list but I've already budgeted for my next two knives, a T.Kell Bushman and a Creely Folklore or Beast.
She actually pronounced "Breitling" spot on. ...not sure why you corrected her. When you say it, it sounds more like "Bretling" but it should sound like "Briteling".
In Australia, are you allowed to have an air rifle to hunt the rats? Could be a cool video series, I enjoy your farming/ slice of life videos as much as your knife reviews!
Every on line knife store I go to says these have been discontinued? Does he still make this model and if so where can I get one. Also, do you know if the handle is full tang or skeletonized full tang? Thank You
When touching up a knife thats just slightly dull, should i still be trying to form a burr and all that jazz? Is it sufficient just to do alternating strokes per side?
I think it´s black micarta not g10. I have one.. By the way, if you coat the onion rings in breadcrumbs after dipping them in flour, it's even better. Best regards! ;)
There's just too many small time makers out there putting out some amazing quality custom fixed blades for me to even consider spending that much on a mass produced fixed blade. Im sure its excellent, though.
Please do share some of those makers you'd highly recommend. There's a few I can think of but I'm always interested to learn of others I'm unaware of to expand the collection! Thanks!
Dude, WTF are you doing?!? Those onion slices are WAY too thick. The steak should be Fred Flinstone-sized, not the onion rings. I bet you bite into one of those and the entire onion slides out and slaps you on the chin. They need to be thin, shoe string preferably. They sell things that'll do it, i bet they're like $15. Get one. Believe me, it's well worth it. Speaking of way too much: $350 is way too much for a fixed blade. Even with Magnacut. It's a great steel, but at the end of the day it's a hunk of great steel. Folders, i can see it: lots of small parts, really tight tolerances. If the design and construction doesn't work 100% all around, the knife's shortcomings become apparent and the forums and comments sections are filled with people crying over it. For a fixed blade at that price, it would need to be more than I'm seeing here.Don't get me wrong, it's a great knife. Id love one if it were a couple hundred. But let's not lose sight of what's important here: THIN onions. Edit: shit, now i need onion rings and all that's open is Burger King 😖 . Do you see what your blasphemously thick onion rings wrought?
That's way too steap angle for any knife at 9:19.It's not a meat cleaver Pete! I'd go for 17/18 degrees for such a knife, that angle looks at least 25 degrees. It could be the camera angle though! I never liked the handle on this. I'd take the new Classic Freedom full flat with liners for edc or the TRC Mille Cuori for outdoors use. These 2 are in my opinion, their best knives. M-1 series, are also way better than Southpole.
can't find one in stock anywhere, hurts my soul to see you putting it through hell lol, at least we know its a beast!! wonder if they are going to make more or not?

We need a C&A calendar with those marvelous faces you were making lol.
A collaboration perhaps between everyone's favorite Aussie knife reviewer and the world's most thorough scissor tester?

Keep on trucking along .
You were channeling some Florida man energy cursing at the rat!
Trc he is the best reviewer on this format. He deserves to review most of your new releases. Thank you very much .
Agreed!
Sit down to lunch and fire up a C&A video. Excellent! Look away for a moment to down a mouthful of leftover chilli, look back, and Pete is happily unzipping a fat rat in the dirt. Pause. Frown. Shrug. Keep eating. Not quite a jump scare, but it sure got my attention!😊

i was getting my trailer park
boys out for this one

Finally, another British shorthair cat fan! I’m _not_ alone…
Count me in as a crazy cat man too. Although I have a stray and a Persian
Cool knife but too expensive for me to justify. White River makes incredible fixed blades in magnacut that are in the $170-$200 range.
TRC kydex is by far, the best in the industry, exceeding all the others.
Have really appreciated not only how you test, but how you present the value. You get that you are a knife nut and that everyone needs to be aware of what their needs and budgets are. Well done.
Greetings from New York! You produce the best knife videos on youtube; informative and entertaining.
I love the Chrono Trigger music so much on this channel!!!
Rip Toriyama sensei
I wanted to support Gary Creely with his MagnaCut fixed blade 62+or-1hrc. Good to see you again.
I like these kind of reviews. How the knife has fit into your life. No going out of your way to cut stuff you wouldn’t otherwise, pure necessity.
I hope to make knives like this some day. Something with an undeniable value.
Rarely inspired, am now.
Those were some pretty honest and dutiful onions, can very much appreciate the selection used.

That bottle of oil here costs as much as the knife.
Pete, you are one of few that seems to love the onions as much or more than I do. Cheers mate
Thanks very much, Pete, for a very thorough review. It may please TRC to know that I will take a good look at this knife, even though smaller fixed blades are not my thing.

2:16 in and this video has already justified itself….hurrah for actually using knives and for incredibly dry humor
G'day Pete, very noooice !!!!!!

I have a South Pole by TRC, love their knives, will definitely be on the lookout for one of these.
Well Youre right while pointing out that workers were not exploited while making The knife you reviewed. Its just better If you buy knives that are made with some love. 😊
I just got my first knife with Magnacut yesterday. It's not a fixed blade, but I'm looking forward to beating it all the same.
Love your work Pete, and your humour, and your practicality.
All the best, MC from NZ
Very very nice knife. I have heard much good stuff about magnacut. But have yet to own anything in magnacut. Got a Fallkniven in Elmax though. One day 🇦🇺 🇳🇿

Don’t let the small minority of the loudest people from either end of the spectrum detour you. The silent majority are with you...
I just ordered the becker 2 (bk 82) in magna cut for 250 and came with a free knife.
I feel like it’s gonna be a BOCO knife type of year, TRM has also started rolling out offerings in Magna-Cut including the Neutron 2.
Chrono Trigger has such an amazing soundtrack.
Ol' Rat Boi Pete, you always deliver
Have you reviewed any Bradford knives? I enjoy my g3/3.5 a g4/4.5 review would be cool
Very good review/vid. That dog looked so happy.
Thx for review. Hav always enjoyed ur reviews. They always cover a wide range of points. Thx

Don't think TRC would needed the publicity. It's sold out everywhere anyway 😅

New C&A video!!!!
Me side eyeing the m1sl appo m390 or the xdp v4e, while having the appocalypse AHAHAH
Sound of the oil going into the bowl woke up my cat
Great video, Pete. Your animals are treated so well, except of course for that rat.
Cedric's both looking and acting like Wolverine at the start of the video. All he needs to do is shave his chin and give himself mutton chops!
I only have shitty fixed blades. Thanks for your thoughts, Peter.
I just hope that the Onion Rings were BEFORE the Rat!
Yikes,$400!

One day you will and then $400.00 will be a cheap knife. Its a vicious cycle.
For some reason the onion rings tasted like rat.
There k1-s leather sheath fits the polheim and carry’s great on the belt
Buy once, cry once.
Me: looks at my pile of knives thinking, "yes, this time it'll be 'once'..."

Great review Pete. Nice knife.
will you be doing a cut test for the spyderco pm2 in magmacut that recently released?
Thanks Pete, greetings from Germany 🤗
The rat is also in whatever roof the tree is touching.
Hey, new knife review! (Rat chest flesh splits)
Lol I noticed magnacut did make your knife steel tier list?? Maybe time for and updated list?😁
When touching up a knife thats just slightly dull, should i still be trying to form a burr and all that jazz? Is it sufficient just to do alternating strokes per side?
8:33 I feel very seen, thank you.
Definitely recommend a Miyoo Mini Plus if you want to revisit some retro rpgs.
I would consider the Quiet Carry Marq over this. Still a bit pricey but very similar to this
You have happy critters on your property.............maybe not the rat.
I think it´s black micarta not g10. I have one.. By the way, if you coat the onion rings in breadcrumbs after dipping them in flour, it's even better. Best regards! ;)
I heard nothing following the oddly casual inclusion of gratuitous midriff shots of both man and rodent
Underrated comment
I can’t get the dead rat flaying and the cutting food with the same knife out of my head..
That was great! I like TRC knives!
You killed master splinter you bastard
Where ya been, Pete? Been watching out for a video from you and haven’t seen a thing in a month? I think at least. Hope you’re well.
Have I read between the lines and heard an upcoming Dickhead Survival episode featuring this knife???? That would be orgasmic! 😮

Great review! What’s the difference between the K1S and this? They look virtually the same. I freakin love Trc
Asking again, does anyone know where I can get one of these, none of the online knife shops have it. Do they still even make it?
Man what a nice knife
What flash light was that!
The best rat knife

Edit: shit, now i need onion rings and all that's open is Burger King 😖 . Do you see what your blasphemously thick onion rings wrought?
seems like a great knife
where's Basil ?? Also nice knife...
Great knife. I dig it.
Thanks!
Affordable, compared to a Benchmade fixer.
Was the rat before the food or after 😮
this is great.. I love the HONDA
can't find one in stock anywhere, hurts my soul to see you putting it through hell lol, at least we know its a beast!! wonder if they are going to make more or not?
They do make them in batches I believe. Got mine like two months ago. I guess the best chance to order them is directly from their website, you can also subscribe for a back in stock notification there
Oh, man, cooking onion rings in olive oil? No cost of living crisis for you…
its not g10 , ive tested mine and lemon juice tarnish it. it held up a perfect edge agains oak but got some damage from dear hantler ... thats normal i guess . outstanding good knife but the handle could be a bit thicker
Laser Excited Phosphor 🤓
But is it five times the knife of a CS SRK?
(Magnacut cut through ropes 500+ times before.....)
holy sh*t, first time in gear review history when the high price tag seems genuine.
