    Wat Phra That Doi Suthep
A visit to Chiang Mai is not complete until one takes in Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. The temple is one of the most sacred sites to many Thai people living in northern Thailand and is located 15 km (9.3 miles) from the city, high on a mountain, known as "Doi Suthep".
The temple was first established in 1383 by King Keu Naone and, so legend has it, was built at the place that a white elephant that was carrying a relic on its back stopped and died ….
Entrance to the temple is reached by ascending a naga-balustrade staircase of 306 steps ( or lift!)
Once inside a breathtaking site beholds the eye - a gold-plated chedi topped by a five-tiered umbrella erected in honour of the city's independence from Burma and its union with Thailand………

Очаровательно! Что-то "своё" в этом есть.
