My grandpa bought me that game when I was 10. I played through every Mega Man on NES at this time, but Level 3 in Castlevania Adventure was unbeatable to me.
this was one of those old games that if you died on certain places and lose the power ups you might as well restart the game as it was pointless trying to continue. There were 2 or 3 secret rooms that helped a lot but even with those the game required an almost a perfect run
As I was around 9 -11 when my father showed and gave me access to his old Game Boy games, this one among them, aaand I couldn't beat stage 1. Now I'm 20 and revisiting those Game Boy games, aaand I still die at the stage 1 boss... Till I found that Game Genie in his former (now my) collection. And I still got frustrated on that auto scroll section in Stage 3.
I loved mega man 3 on nes. I have mega man 2 on gb. Need to get this so Ill be able to play it through my supernintendo using my supergameboy on my TV 👑🌟🔺️🔻🔺️🔻🌟👑
Konami was well known for pushing the soundchips of the systems they released their games on at the time . Allot of their game boy and SNES titles back then had great music . And who can forget the extra sound chip of the Famicon version of Castlevania 3 .
So proud this was a part of my childhood. The games 1st level theme "Battle Of The Holy" is still to me one of the most epic video game songs of all-time.
Some secrets you missed. At 2:20 (keep climbing up the rope) 8:35 (grab the cross in the previous room, go down left, get on the middle stair, duck and strike the eyeball while its inside your character to reveal a hidden path downward)
Got that game when I was 10 or 11 as one of the first games for my Gameboy. It was very hard for me and took me weeks of training to beat it. Two years ago (I'm over 40 now) I found it at the attic together with my Gameboy and some other gems and I gave it a try. I beat that thing at the very first try! My brain still remembered all the timings, the hidden rooms and even the complicated jumps at lvl 3. Unbelievable after about 30 years.
This was the only castlevania i played when i was a child , damn , it brings alot of memories and cant believe it still looks cool after all these years, I always wanted to grow up and be like simon belmont and hunt vampires but I became a radiologist😄
Slowdownvania - The Painventure Seriously, what the fuck happened to this game when they released it ? The game is rather cool, splendid soundtrack and sound effects, some good ideas (whip fireballs), long levels, even if there's only four of them and it's overall quite easy, but the gameplay ??? Why SO MANY slowdowns everywhere ? Some levels like the third one are HELL ON EARTH because of these slowdowns. I have absolutely no problem to beat this one without dying from enemies, but the character responses and slowdows makes everything awful at a point you just don't wanna continue. I died so many times on falling platforms in level 3 because Christopher (the protagonist) was simply not responding to my commands, jumping without going forward and such... This is absolutely unforgivable for a game like Castlevania. Such disappointing gameplay-wise, because everything else is quite nice.
Perfect playthrough. I remember this game well, it may have been tough but I enjoyed it and Belmont's awkward jumping made it feel more realistic to me. Level 3's level design is sadistic from start to finish, but it's also the most exciting level. A true classic in my book.
This game wasn't all that polished. The music and graphics were great for their time, but stage design, some gameplay elements, and the jumping physics weren't. I'll give the game credit though, it did spawn a fantastic remake and Belmont's Revenge.
This is the only Castlevania I ever owned, and it pretty much turned me off of ever trying the other games. The character's painfully slow walking speed, and never being able to pass Level 3.
OfficialMarkC That's a shame. That's like playing Hotel Mario and never giving any of the other Mario games a try.Not that this game is anywhere near Hotel Mario bad, but definitely not the best in the Castlevania series for sure.
Same here man! I got to the last boss once and died on spikes by mistake :D So I am glad somebody posted this game, now at least I know how it ends! :)
I could never beat the 4th level, seeing this video really galls me in some ways because it seems that I was something like 90-95% completed with the game before my Game Boy was stolen. I eventually got a replacement Game Boy, but never saw the game at an affordable price and I liked Final Fantasy Legend I-III more than platformers. The video makes it look easy, but the 4th level is FAR, FAR worse than the third. It is difficult if you lose the fireballs, and pretty much impossible if you lose the chain whip and have only the shorter standard whip.
Oh yes I remember the agony of playing this at the end of the last century. Very hard, but still easier than Battletoads. /shudder Great playthrough :-)
wooow, this was my gaaame..... 😃😃😃😁😁😁.... HOW MUCH I LOVED IT!!! and i still do.... it was pretty hard but after ages of practice, i was sooo proud reaching the end, hahaha ...... and i played it from the beginning to the end sooooo, sooo many times....... ah..... and please give some credit to the music.... IT'S FREAKIN' AWESOME 😃😃😁😁😁🎉🎉🎉👏👏👏👏..... thank you for posting this!!! I have a smile on my face 😻😻😻 you made my day 😍😍😍
That's why they had to make it the most awesome piece of music in the game. As it was, I chucked my game boy across the room more times than I can remember on this stage.
Even though the first and fourth levels have similar sounding music, they have the best music out of the four levels. I actually think the fourth level had the best music out of all the levels.
Memories... After a long time of pure frustration as a little kid (got this game on Gameboy when it released), I managed to finish it. After that I kept finishing it. I guess back then I had A LOT MORE patience.
Same. I got it when it first came out. After a while I managed to finish it. Even without dying once. A month ago I discovered my original GameBoy from 1988 with this game still in it. Now I get to act 2 and that's it. The patience we had as youngster back then... But yeah. We didn't have many games to chose from. So we kept on going and dying till we finished it.
Or how about "Bases Loaded"? I could never work it out, being British and never having seen the real game of baseball played. Alas, I lost myself in Tetris, Super Mario, Double Dragon and Blades of Steel (ice hockey) instead.
worth it. This game is garbage in level design. I got to the end of it. Pixel perfect jumping in a game where the frame rate is all over the place. Garbage!
classic gameboy game i love castlevania this game series is great on any console great game the combat is good the sound is not bad the graphics are good the gameplay is addictive overall i give this 10 demons out of 10 yes i am serious
The best part of it is that it has almost the same harmonic structure as the Vampire Killer theme. Circle of the Moon would do this again -- using the Vampire Killer theme in a late game area that's frustrating as hell. Though nevertheless still not as frustrating as this one.
I'm not a Castlevania fan, but I have heard about the series. I recently discovered this game as well as it's sequel, Belmont's Revenge. And I have to say the music is extremely catchy. I heard that it was composed by Hideheiro Funauchi. He's such a legend at music composition.
8:31 if you would've gotten the cross from the previous room and attacked the eyeball on the middle step, it would've opened up a hidden rope to a 1Up, a power orb, a full life heart and a coin.
I remember playing this when I was probably 3 or 4 on our old Gameboy. I never made it past level 1. Same thing happened playing Ren & Stimpy on Game Gear. Lol
This was my very first cartridge, and I do not have regrets about my childhood. Collecting money for Duracell batteries waiting for a friend that comes from the USA with a new videogame, now we have everything and there is less happiness.
This is the first Game Boy game I owned (aside from Tetris, the pack-in). Growing up, I always thought it was called "The Castlevania Adventure," which makes way more sense than "Castlevania: The Adventure."
12:17 I’ve been playing this part on my original ‘92 game boy that I restored and I cannot beat it!!! I’ve been playing this part for like 30 minutes over and over !
Thanks, you're an expert player. I can remember the frustration because the character would move so slow. Never been able to beat the game. It seems I still got to the last level =)
This game had some of the most godawful elements ever implemented in a Castlevania game (horrendous jumping mechanics, no side weapon system, downgrading your whip whenever you take damage - because if you are downgraded back to your regular whip by stage 3 you might as well turn your game off, game speed moving at the pace of a slug, and THAT GODAWFUL STAGE KNOWN AS LEVEL 3) but if there was one saving grace, it was the amazing soundtrack. To this day, I don't know how I managed to complete this. And I was 10 years old back then too.
I remember I had this game on Game Boy when I was a child but I forgot the name. I had to find one of those 100 Game Boy games videos just to find out the name of this is Castlevania.
19:41 So i quit during here because i could get the timing right for the jump onto the platform. I had been on for an hour so my eyes were starting to hurt from straining, so i quit. And then i watched this and realized i was 5 rooms or so away from Dracula. ._.
it may sound weird but, i really like this game, and the sequel. I like Castlevania in general, and i'm a HUGE fan, but Densetsu I and II are my favorite "Classic Mode" games.
The Castlevania bundle on steam has the gameboy games you can play with a controller. It is the greatest deal on steam all the best Castlevania games even SNES.
Como me gustan jugar a los videojuegos de castlevania, me encantan la música instrumental también todas las músicas instrumentales y también los gráficos, la neta en el playstore yo descargué y lo instalé un videojuego de castlevania en mi celular android y todavía lo juego.
Wow, never got to level 4 but I'm glad I didn't. Had enough trouble with the jumping in this game, I would have never been able to get through that stage.
Good soundtrack, decent graphics and a somewhat complicated level design, the biggest obstacle of this game is its controls, I get used to them after a while, but I understand that many other people find it difficult to adapt to them. The bosses are very simple, there are levels that are instant kill that are not so complicated, the enemies are unique but they are constantly repeated. The game is relatively short, it is not even by far one of the best castlevania, I would say that it is among the worst, but that does not make it as bad as people say, it is simply a game that does not stand out at all for its saga. Castlevania Legends is much better than this.
The game as a whole doesn't feel like a Castlevania game but the music I think is excellent. As many times as I have beaten this I never finished the game without taking a hit. My best was only one lost life so congrats! That was a great accomplishment. 😀
I just beat this game on the Castlevania Anniversary Collection for the Nintendo Switch. To those who beat this on a Game Boy without the quick save/load, HOW DID YOU DO IT??!!
My grandpa bought me that game when I was 10. I played through every Mega Man on NES at this time, but Level 3 in Castlevania Adventure was unbeatable to me.
You beat it eventually? I'm the opposite also, I prefer Castlevania since I can't beat a lot of the Mega Man X and Zero games lol
this was one of those old games that if you died on certain places and lose the power ups you might as well restart the game as it was pointless trying to continue. There were 2 or 3 secret rooms that helped a lot but even with those the game required an almost a perfect run

The Mega Man games were some of the easiest good games on the NES. Way easier than Mario, Castlevania, Contra or whatever else have you.
The mere act of watching stage 3 is nerve-wrecking...
is that the wall one? then yeah
A Spiked Wall of Pain
Whoever designed that stage probably loves making kids cry.
I saw the gameplay and... jesus christ
The key is not to panic...
For a gameboy game, it had a great soundtrack.
In my opinion the Game Boy has better soundtrack than an NES
Hiei2019
He means the game, not the system soundchip.
@@amso7169 he said soundtrack soi think he meant the game not the entire library on the system

same here i got it 1990
I'm so sorry
That's a shame.
I realize it is kind of off topic but do anyone know a good site to watch newly released tv shows online ?
Some secrets you missed.

8:35 (grab the cross in the previous room, go down left, get on the middle stair, duck and strike the eyeball while its inside your character to reveal a hidden path downward)
16:30 secret wall to the right. 21:26 invisible platform to left of rope that leads to top middle of ceiling hidden rope you can jump to.

12:13 who said dark souls was hard?
Dark Souls is way harder than this.
0:56 This main theme I still sing today, 30 years later. What a banger
There were quite a few creepy games in GB. This was by far the best. All because of the AMAZING soundtrack!
I wish we were children again, guys!
I hate this game but to each their own
I assume you meant crappy games.
Because the game itself might be the worst I have ever played.
@@LaatiMafia "The worst game of GB".
Ooook....it seems you haven't played many....

Not just the worst GB game. Worst game overall.
This is NOT a good game lol terrible controls, terrible hit detection, mind boggling difficulty on top of that
great job. remember playing this game back in 1990, originally wanted TMNT fall of the footclan, but Sears didn't have it..
Slowdownvania - The Painventure

it took some getting used to controlling the character but the movement was king of stiff
The hitbox is weird, you take a hit when the enemy hasn't collided with you yet.
The sequel was leaps and bounds better IMO.

I zhink this game blows a hard one but to each their own
Wow... it amazes me how good the music is for a gb game. Konami did a really good job as usual with the sound track
The amount of times i ended with a Game Over on stage 3 when i was little xD My childhood!!
This game wasn't all that polished. The music and graphics were great for their time, but stage design, some gameplay elements, and the jumping physics weren't. I'll give the game credit though, it did spawn a fantastic remake and Belmont's Revenge.
yeah, takes some getting used to and stage 3 is a beast. once you got it down, though, it becomes a walk in the park.
Yeah, but it takes quite a lot for one to get this game down. I absolutely hate how bad the jumping in this game is.
This is the only Castlevania I ever owned, and it pretty much turned me off of ever trying the other games. The character's painfully slow walking speed, and never being able to pass Level 3.
OfficialMarkC I honestly urge you to give Super Castlevania IV a shot. It's one of the best 16-bit games ever made.

The OutroMusic is so Beautiful. Amazing.
Damn, you are the boss!!!! I remember playing this game on the Gameboy as a kid and it was tough. I beat it though, but took many many turns.
I love this game, stage 3 and 4 has epic BGM. Plus the music in 3 makes you feel like a badass when you pull off all the jumps.
I had this game when I was little but I could never beat the third level.

Loved this game for its graphics, sound and level design. But I absolutely hated the controls and bad jumping mechanic.
@Greg's Retro Video Games & More that’s how the games are meant to be controlled, so it’s more challenging.
@Greg's Retro Video Games & More I agree but also think that the jump mechanics are fine personally but can see why they are frustrating.
