Defending the base:
You don't have to assign your soldiers to separate enemies. If they got the matching symbols all of them can attack one enemy at a time. BUT the treat level is not reset between enemies.
The same things is true for the tasks and enemies on missions.
"Fantasy Flight made it... so it's a good board game" this is so so true, Fantasy Flight is almost always a sign of quality. I have a ton of their games and I've never regretted it.
though I agree I make an exception for this though, the XCOM boardgame though a good idea on paper is a bit of a cluster fuck in execution. See FFG are doing a star wars minis game now... Gonna become poor at this rate.
As much as I like the idea of this game, it is just too frantic for mere mortal humans to react to. Except for the science officer. The science offer is super chill.
Was thinking the same.. I don't play board games to feel horribly stressed and rushed
Remember that while one person is taking their turn, the rest of them are able to plan out their moves so that when their turn comes along they know exactly what they're doing
You can play with infinite pauses by pressing menu. On hard it makes the game a decent challenge.

And he complains about being given info... there's a reason you play this on easy the first, oh... 5 times I'd say. Because you need to get the rules on the back of the hand to be able to handle the timelimit issues, learning what shit does, etc.
I had no idea there was a board game, I love XCOM.
Have played this game quite a few times - you kinda get used to its hectic nature, especially if you're running a full team (4 people). Once it becomes too easy, you can ramp up difficulty, reduce number of players or add on the expansion pack. All in all, it's a pretty fun game and I can easily recommend it to people who like "difficult" co-op games.
It's easier when you're a full 4 people playing cuz you dun have to multitask a ton and just need to focus on one small task.
I never knew I needed that. But now I do. More of this!
A couple things:
1st, I'm pretty sure you don't flip the alien cards on the mission until you get to them meaning that you have to assign people without that knowledge.
2nd: I'd recommend doing this again once everyone is more familiar with their roles and what they do. That way you can go faster during the timed phase because any left over time is given to you at the end of the timed phase allowing you check that you've played all cards that you wanted to.
I haven't played it for some time but I think that you can reassign the remaining soldiers to a diffrent enemy. At least that's how I've played it
For future note. You don't pre-assign all the units to aliens when doing base defence. You can do combat one at a time and assign as many units as you can (one per skill icon on alien card). Rules read:
*The Squad Leader may choose to resolve any base
defense task any number of times and in any order.
A base defense task does not need to be completed
before the Squad Leader resolves a new one, and
he or she can go back and resolve a previous base
defense task that remains incomplete.
*The Squad Leader may assign the same soldiers or
different soldiers to the same base defense task or to
a different base defense task for each roll.
Do keep in mind that the threat level doesn't reset during base defence

Yeah that timed round was crazy
I felt under pressure from the timed round and I wasn't even playing.
Ending it with a Linkin Park reference is quite a power play.

Only remark I have, is that your soldier only role 2 dice when both the target and your soldier have the gold border

Confirmation the yogscast have two many channels. Seriously, this video could have come out on Games night, Lewis and Ben save the world, or even the main channel.
Main channel would be the weirder of the options but I can see the reasoning for Games night and Lewis and Ben save the world.
The Civ channel does practically only 4x strategy games, and TDD runs practically unedited videos that are only cut into segments. The main channel just doesn't fit the video style of either.
Honestly, I don't mind. They are a network after all, even though they just look like a bunch of goones...
Jack Mcmanaman but this is on games night. I don't entirely disagree they have too many channels. I mean, I've never heard of Lewis and Ben save the world. Maybe they did market research to determine that this was the best way to maximize views though
If they release 5 videos a day on the main channel (which they'd have to do if they want to release civ, board games, whatever TDD is playing, a Lewis+Ben vid, AND the main video) people will complain that there's too much stuff they're not interested in being put up. Which will make people upset, which will make them unsub because they feel spammed. Whereas if it's on the individual channels the people that actually like board games or tons of civ or whatever can watch it without forcing all the main channel people to have to put up with it.
Tom must really hate Lewis. He keeps flipping him off :)

I'm pretty sure Ben got the lore wrong. I'm pretty sure it's actually that XCOM: Enemy Unknown happens. You defeat the first invasion. Then the aliens come with more force, obliterate XCOM, and Earth surrenders. The Aliens capture Commander and use him 'in the matrix' according to Ben to combat the Resistance as his mind is much better than a super computer in terms of Tactical combat.
EmperorNerd if I remember rightly the lore was that Earth was defeated in the first invasion very easily (before laser weapons were even invented). And the entire XCOM: Enemy Unknown game was you the Commander being used by the aliens to simulate you defending an alien invasion and using your mind as a tactical computer against the Resistance. And from what Bradley implies thousands upon thousands of simulated combat was played in the commander's mind which would have burned out most people, probably in reference to how many people played XCOM: Enemy Unknown, wins and losses accounted for.

Which Tom are you talking about? There's Angory Tom (Clark), who has a channel by that name and is in a lot of the videos on the main channel, this is Tom Hazell, who is an editor and is on High Rollers sometimes.
The Tom they play alot of TTT and GTA with.

jeez, as someone who has never even seen this board game but has played Xcom, this game seems incredibly confusing and quick paced and hard to keep track of if you don't at least sort of know what you're doing.
