As a born Gator, I for one have thought the Noles should have been in the SEC all along. The ACC is somewhat better now, but for years FSU was so much better than the rest of the ACC that they didn’t have many tough games each year in conference. They were for years just as good as the best SEC teams and way better than the ACC. I always thought “while the Gators are over here playing UGA and Bama and LSU and Tenn etc every year the Noles are over there beating the hell out of Wake Forest and NC State and Duke etc”. I think they’ve for decades been a lot more of a SEC caliber team than a ACC team. Personally I’d love for them to join. I’d like to see FSU and Clemson join and the SEC would be just that much stronger. So long as UF and FSU could still play every year. If that wouldn’t be possible then they can stay where they are.

I'm for the conference expanding to North Carolina and Virginia. The SEC does have 2 teams in Alabama, Tennessee, and Texas so it's not entirely impossible that they would invite FSU and Clemson to join. It's not impossible is all I'm saying....go gators. 🐊🐊🐊

Ally I’m a Gator fan and I think you’re misplaced on this issue. The value isn’t to the conferences. It’s the value to the TV partners. The script has flipped and brand recognition and ratings draw is what matters to the TV partners. The B1G gets FSU and Clemson the SEC will be surpassed because there is no other teams that add brand value.

the overall question is “what is the mutual benefit.” For FSU that is simple. But for the league that is not as simple.
First, get away from the old UCF argument and ask the hard question.
For a Texas or UNC, it’s easy, new areas they will play in. But for FSU it’s a more complicated question. How does UF benefit of sticking its neck out for FSU? Throw out of the emotion and look at it logically. There is benefit but it is harder to see. If FSU/UF agreed to ally and bring Clemson reform the Eastern alliance. That would benefit UF as there are political fears inside of the SEC of Texas taking over. If FSU agreed to lock out Miami and push them to tier 2, that would help UF recruiting. Those are values that UF could see in supporting FSU.
While I am not a Stricklin fan, he was sending hints.

UNC and UVA are a better SEC fit. Also, MIAMI brings the Miami TV market, so they bring more to the table. Additionally, I also believe that Clemson and FSU are not fits for the B1G. So, Clemson and FSU will most likely stay in the ACC or move to an expanded Big 12.

Finally!!! Someone with some common d@mn sense! Been saying this forever! The SEC does not want FSU nor Clemson at this time. Unless something drastic happens where FSU and Clemson make a very attractive scenario where adding them to the SEC would bring the other programs oodles of cash. Not going to happen! The Big10 is their best hope and honesty, I just don't see both teams being made an offer to join the Big10. If anything, either FSU goes to the Big10 or Clemson but not both. If the Big10 doesn't make them an offer than the Big12 would be their only offer.

Rivalries are the lifeblood of college football. The further teams are from one another, the more the rivalry diminishes. Expanding the footprint is not a long term solution for CFB, or conferences, IMO. FSU and Miami should both be in the SEC. If the SEC is going to expand, they can go to 20 teams and have everyone's main rival in the conference. The only tough part would probably be expelling Mizzou, who has never fit in. Bring in Ok St, Ga Tech, Miami, FSU, Clemson. You can have a 10 game conference schedule, it would be, far and away, the nation's best conference, full of rivalries. You can even restore the UF Auburn rivalry.

I'm sorry but I totally disagree with this logic. Florida State and Clemson definitely belong in the SEC if they leave the ACC. Florida State should have come to the SEC in the early '90's I just don't think the money worked for them at the time. I really don't care about "The Conference Footprint" point. So what? There are more than one school from a state in Alabama, Mississippi,Texas you get the point. Besides that when FSU was an independent program before the ACC they got to play 2-3 tough games a year. Then they joined the ACC which was not a powerhouse in football then or now. So they got to run the table for 10+ years. Let them come to a real conference. I have been shouting for this since 1991. Come to the SEC Seminoles, please. Go Gators

FSU screwed the pooch when they passed on the SEC years ago and joined the ACC. With respect to the Gators, It takes more than one vote to blackball a team from joining a conference. Ask A&M if they voted for Texas…. One reason why the SEC may end up taking FSU would be to block the Big Ten from gaining a foothold in the South. They could add NC and Virginia, as well as Kansas (to pair with Missouri).

why are gators so afraid of FSU coming to the sec ? it's the best move for the state of Florida to get back where we belong, at the top of the college football world. Miami needs to be in the sec as well, the NCAA did everything in it's power to destroy Miami's program and then every school in the sec invade south florida to steal as much talent as possible. every championship team under nick saban had some of the best players being from Florida. Now imagine if all three major programs in the state of Florida were in the sec, that means all of our best players would stay home and go to one of the big three just like it was when the state of florida dominated college football.

There are 2 factors that could drive up the contract between the SEC and ESPN : (1) a bigger media footprint, particularly in a new market like North Carolina or Virginia, justifies a bigger payout, and (2) the SEC wants to get paid more for adding a 9th conference game to their schedule, and ESPN is only willing to do that if the SEC adds 2 more schools.

Clemson and FSU will bring competition as well as keep the in-state end of the year rivalry games in place. I don’t care about footprint. I care about conference dominance and every other ACC school will fail to do that. In the end, there will only be two super conferences left. It’s all about money and why college football will continue to lose tradition and appeal over the next decade.

Miami actually doesn’t add much of a market. They are a small private school with little local alumni.
Their tv viewership for the Hurricanes is nothing impressive as SoFla has tons of alumni from other state schools, transplants from other parts of the country and people who immigrated to the US who don’t care about CFB.
IF Miami is actually good like 00-03 then sure their viewership increases but Fla and FSU TV ratings do great in SoFla as those are the two biggest schools with alumni in SoFla.

Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee and Vandy are all founding members, so the argument doesn't really apply since they were added at a time when teams took buses to play away games and televisions didn't even exist yet. Texas has a population of 30+ million, so multiple teams are justified. Florida's population is 22 million, so there is definitely room for multiple teams in the state, plus FSU's alumni count is huge. Here’s why UF is scared stiff of FSU or Miami joining the SEC. Last in the state to win a natty (despite being oldest program), drops Miami in the 80s to avoid an annual loss, a mere two out-of-state non-conference regular season games since 1991 (both losses), all-time losing record to Miami, and losing record to FSU since Bowden took over in the 1970s (FSU was a doormat prior to that). Oh, and Spurrier went 5-10-1 against FSU and Miami and needed 8 quarters against FSU to win his natty.

This comment is a demonstration of complete ignorance about college football. FSU and Bowden admitted long ago they were scared to join the SEC because they knew they'd get beat up every year. Same for Miami. Those two programs depended on some of the nation's weakest schedules every year in order to have success. In the SEC, neither of those teams ever wins a natty. UF wanted those schools in the SEC in the past. But both schools were scared and ran to the nation's weakest conferences to enjoy the nation's weakest schedules. Bring both to the SEC. They will be humiliated.

FSU has an all-time winning record against the SEC and has traveled the entire country to play anyone, anywhere, anytime - something the program in Hogtown doesn’t have the rocks to even attempt.
Here’s another interesting nugget - did you know that as recently as 1989 UF was only one of three original SEC members to not have won a conference title? Wanna guess who the other two are - Georgia Tech and Tulane (who obviously left a long time ago). How’s that for pathetic?

@@charlestoddsullivanforpres6628 , 🤣🤣😂😂Dude, I don't know where you got your sources from, but you seriously need to find a new source. Miami, in particular, was never afraid to go to the SEC. Bet you didn't know that Miami and Alabama use to be sister programs. Meaning, way back in the day, if you attended one or the other program as a student, you could relocate from one program to the other as though it were just one program with campuses in different locations.
The president for Alabama during those times, can't remember what his name was, actually partitioned for Miami to be placed in the SEC along with Alabama. The President for Miami at that time was apparently wanting to go a different path in terms of how they wanted the Miami program to be viewed moving forward. Supposedly, the people in charge at Miami since its inception have always tried to bill Miami as the Stanford University of the South.
Hence, they decided to pursue other avenues. Long story short, it was a bad move because Miami by every since of the imagination should be an SEC program. Unfortunately, due to bone-headed decision after bone-headed decision by previous administrations leading up to now, the Miami program is now in a situation where they'd better hope that they get an offer from the Big10 because I honestly don't see the SEC making them an offer at this time. If they do, I don't think that Florida would approve of it because Florida wouldn't want to compete with Miami in recruiting players, games every year, etc.

lol FSU chose the ACC bc it was an easier road to the Natl Championship which Bowden admitted.
Miami chose the Big East bc “they have a lot of students from the Northeast” which was literally their statement. That sealed the deal on the annual rivalry with Fla as the SEC wanted Miami over SC and they would’ve been an SEC East team which would’ve kept the Fla game going
Also, Miami has been less than average since joining the ACC in 2004 (literally only one 10 win season and one division title) yet you think Miami would’ve been dominating the SEC then or now if they joined?

@@LoCoVANole Yes, it's complete ignorance. You pretend like UF is scared of something and that has never been the case, yet Bowden publicly admitted he was scared to put FSU in the SEC. Bowden intentionally went to the ACC because he knew it would be easy and he admitted this. It's peak Nole delusion to suggest otherwise.
When FSU got good at football, all of a sudden Nole fans act like they are special - of course you traveled the country - you didn't have a conference. Yet you still managed to have a weak schedule that couldn't compare to UF's, probably 75% of the time or more.
When FSU faced something similar to an SEC schedule in 1981 where they had a tough stretch, something UF deals with in virtually every season, FSU was .500 in that stretch, which is what would have happened to them every year if they were in the SEC.
The Noles would not have a single title if they were in the SEC. Everyone knows this, especially Nole fans and Bobby Bowden, and this is why you guys run your mouths so much. You know that the only way you can compete is to have an easy run and spend half of your season preparing for Miami and the other half preparing for UF. For Bowden's peak years: the 80s and 90s, he played an average of 2 fewer ranked teams each year, compared to Spurrier. He was intentional about this because he knew it was the only way he could win.
If FSU ever had a set of nuts, it would have been in the SEC a long time ago.

What is not said is what it all boils down to, that is Florida
in no way wants FSU recruiting in the state of Florida as an SEC team. Period.
