When he performed this song in concert, he sat on a stool/chair across from an empty chair (representing his younger self). In the background on a huge screen was an image from the music video for How Could You Leave Us of a young boy looking out a window, waiting for his mom. It was very powerful. I don’t want to give anything away, but if you listen to How Could You Leave Us the last 30 seconds were recorded after he had everyone leave the studio so he could be alone. Extremely powerful and raw. Definitely worth listening to so you can better understand NF. To get the perspective of a therapist, I’d also recommend Mansion, Therapy Session, Intro III, Outcast, Let You Down, Why, The Search, My Stress, Leave Me Alone, Let Me Go, Trauma, -Interlude- (50 seconds of him talking, but it explains the mindset of pretty much the entire The Search album), and Hate Myself.
Another awesome reaction. So NF actually told us that he had to check himself into therapy for a couple days after part of his perception album tour, cause his depression was at it worst. He talks more about it in the interlude of the search and with the song hate myself. NF also said that he took part in an activity during therapy that consisted of him having a conversation with his younger self, which led to this song. There is songs which are even more sad then this one. But its prob a good idea to start with nf mansion as it is one of his first songs and alot of other songs are connected to it. He explains alot about what he went through in that song.
Great comment, thanks so much! Thanks for the description of NF’s journey and it helps put the pieces of the puzzle together. So glad NF got help when he needed it and put it into music.😊👍
I usually skip the How Could You Leave Us reactions, but not this time. This was awesome. I hope you continue through some more NF, man. So cool to hear a professionals perspective on his work
I wanted to mention that I really love watching your reaction videos to NF. I can relate to NF his lyrics in so many ways and when you talk about it as a therapist, the tears just start rolling down my face. Your explanation and view on his lyrics make me emotional but also gives me hope on getting out of the darkness.
cause he's (eazy-e) the only one that listen even when you think he isn't, even good people ( eazy-e ) are great at making bad decisions ( eazy death ) '' he drop this album 26 july 2019 '' you think its bad now but you dont know the half of it ( something was brewing between usa, corea, autralia was going on fire, everything was bad in 2020 ) '' this song was write in 2017 '' i know something about the future you aint ready for, i know something you gon' cover up can't ignore, and what hurts is thet gon' suface at the worst moments and we gon' act like it dont hurt us, but it hurt don' t it? ( nf predicted covid, reliable to the bible ) ( nf is christian )
NF wrote this song after his therapies asked him “what would you tell to your younger self if you ever had a chance” he sat there for a second and said “you know, I’ll make a song about it”
Maybe it's just me, but I would LOVE to see you react to NF- Only. There are more references to people knocking you down, never being happy with what you have, and the self-destructive tendencies he's touched on in other songs. That and the hook has a beautiful flow to it. Loving all these breakdowns though, didn't realize I was missing this perspective on music.
This track and Hate Myself were both written as part of some heavy therapy NF went through between the Perception album and The Search. Love the reactions! Honest communication is a win in my book.❤
Track number four is from the album therapy session it is titled "How could you leave us" it is basically talking about his mom who passed away to overdose.
Saw someone else comment this as well. But he wrote this as a therapy activity. He sat in a chair facing an empty chair and he talked/wrote to his younger self. Love your reactions.
Thanks Austin! That’s a Gestalt technique we do in therapy called “the empty chair”, great to know this and it’s very helpful to get things out. Keep the comments coming!😊👍
several NF songs I feel are powerful and important are The Search, Leave me Alone, Change, My Stress, Time, Only, let me go, Interlude then Hate Myself they go together, I miss the days, like this, thinking, and Trauma basically most of The Search album.
Please keep up these reactions, it’s genuinely helping me, gonna start a journal like you mentioned in one video. The music is therapy but to have it shown in this manner is amazing thank you 🙏
Nice too hear another perspective because growth in a war zone wasn't alright and when u live without for so long it's hard too find fulfillment in anything
I came across your reaction to Mansion and had to see what else you've reacted to. I just subscribed and look forward to the remainder of your current NF reactions and also the one's you do in the future. Having a Christian perspective is also extremely welcome and important. As more people come across your breakdowns I'm sure you'll be given a list of tracks to go through in an order that helps line up his story. If you're open to taking on other artists, Tom MacDonald has a song called "Balloons" that would probably be great to react to. But, like NF, he has a wealth of music and topics over the course of multiple years which could lead to many more reactions. He doesn't always curse, but unlike NF, there definitely is cursing in some of them. Anyway, thank you for taking on the NF journey.
Oh boy...be ready for a long message here. First off, great reaction! I loved getting a therapist's take because I'm a a therapist myself. I was first introduced to NF by some students at a therapeutic program that I was working at. I frequently use music in my counseling because of how it can connect with people, and they told me to check out NF. I was skeptical at first because he was a rap/hip hop artist, so I had them pick out one song. They picked Therapy Session. Uh oh...what was I going to do at that point? I can't be a therapist and say that "Therapy Session" was a horrible song. It was such a set up! It certainly was a set up, but it set me up to dive into this intriguing rap/hip hop artist who actually had something both musically interesting and meaningful to say. You can make a guess which artist I most frequently use now in my counseling. One thing you could do would be to go through the "NF Journey" (I'll reply to this with the NF Journey) which is a set list of songs which tell his story. One of the fascinating things about NF is that his songs interconnect. I've never seen an artist who has been able to do this. It's as if his albums are chapters and his songs are sub-chapters to a greater narrative. It's absolutely amazing! If you don't want to do such a lengthy venture, I can give some summaries of songs that you can react to from a fellow therapist's perspective (I'll give a second reply with the summaries). I hope this is helpful and keep up the awesome reactions!
Thanks so much for the comment and suggestions Joel! This is great information and the list of songs to cover his journey would be great to listen and react to! I see the struggle, like you, every day in teenagers who feel lost, have been abused, and who have no hope. Thanks again for everything!😊👍

And here are my comments on some of the songs... Mansion Album Mansion - This is a brilliant metaphor and the foundational piece of his story. He depicts his mind as a mansion and personifies his emotions as residents in his "home". It's a brilliant story which paints a picture of his emotional struggle. All I Have - This captures his perspective towards his music. If you want a glimpse into his passion and what drives him, look here. Wait - This song often gets left off the list, but I think it's a critical piece to the NF Journey. This song absolutely nails the relationship struggles that exists for those with insecure attachment and abandonment issues. Wake Up - This was one of his early "sermons" that you later find out he is preaching in part to himself (Intro II foreshadowing). It speaks of the danger of blind ambition and jealousy. Notepad - We see who Nate's confidant was growing up. Paralyzed - This is a chilling song that describes emotional numbness that so many describe. Can You Hold Me - This is Nate calling out to God in desperation, longing for acceptance and love. Therapy Session Album Therapy Session - Here is NF's mission statement and how he views his music. It's both intense and moving. How Could You Leave Us - Probably the saddest song I've ever heard. It's the song he sings out of the bitterness of his soul over the loss of his mom to addiction. In my practice, I tell people that working through forgiveness means being honest and facing all of your feelings. I imagine this song was very therapeutic for him. He has since said that he has started to see his mom through a lens of understanding of her struggle. I'm hoping he will one day have a follow up song speaking to this learned understanding. I believe it will be equally therapeutic for him. Real - Nate's not a sell out and he never will be. Oh Lord - Nate takes a moment to preach, revealing his perspective on God, how we often approach God out of need but rarely reciprocate in the relationship. Perception Album Outro - This is his reflection on his work to this point. It's a reminder of why he works his craft when he starts to doubt. I get chills watching this one every time (if you do this, you MUST watch all the videos prior). Intro III - This is one of his most brilliant songs. I use this song with clients to answer the question of what we do with fear. Be sure that you have listened to Mansion and Intro II again before listening to this one. Outcast - We see how Nate compares himself and his fans to his peers. Let You Down - This is his most successful song to date. It's also incredibly deep. I would argue it's this generation's "Cats in the Cradle". Be sure to watch all the way to the end. If You Want Love - This is one of his most touching and beautiful songs. What does a healthy relationship look like? This is very insightful coming from someone who has experienced a lot of pain, disappointment, and abandonment in relationships throughout his life. Remember This - This is arguably his most motivational song ever written. There are so many truths for life throughout. The Search Album Why (released before the album) - You can't hear this song and miss the constant game of tug of war in his mind. You also see his need to find success, his lack of satisfaction with the success he finds, and the internal struggle that comes because of this. The Search - Somethin' funny's going on up in his house... The symbolism in this video is unreal. He personifies his burdens, outlines his emotional struggle, and identifies what he is searching for. Motivational song. Leave Me Alone - Sequel to The Search. He speaks to his struggle with anxiety and why he holds on to his burdens. Will he let them go? (Phil. 4:6-7) Change - I could use this song every time a client walks through the door. My Stress - It's in the title, but it's about Nate's struggle with the pressure of his work. Nate - Holy Empty Chair, Batman! I get chills every time I hear this song, especially after having heard his story through song. Time - This is a great song for couples in crisis. What happens when couples genuinely love but hurt each other? Why is the relationship worth fighting for? Only - Even with success life can be lonely, especially if you wrestle with doubts, insecurities, and fears. Let Me Go - What is it Nate is searching for (The Search)? What stands in his way? We can sometimes feel a prisoner to our own emotions. Inside is a small voice that wants free from that cage. Hate Myself - This is probably Nate's darkest song. It speaks of his wrestling with suicidal thoughts and his racing, persistent thoughts he encountered in his lowest moments. I Miss The Days - This song gets more powerful every time I hear it. It speaks of the peace that comes with the innocence of life without the worries of the world. Can we find that peace? Trauma - I think this is one of NF's most underappreciated songs. Deep inside a child with trauma is a person wondering, hoping that they will be loved, rescued, and protected. Clouds Mixtape Just Like You - I love playing this for clients to help in normalizing their mental health struggle and to offer hope. Lost - NF with the optimistic look on the struggle and the power of vulnerability. I love the imagery that he uses to describe how in our pride we put walls up keep supports away in a mistaken belief that we've kept ourselves safe. Drifting - The ending is powerful! This is Wake Up, only the person does fight the drift into comfortable, but unhealthy escapes. Trust - Nate hits his limit and chooses to respond to Satan (Intro II). What happens? Anyway, I know this is long, but hopefully this gives some interesting food for thought if you don't do the journey and just want to hit a handful of songs topically. Some of them I would still recommend hitting past songs for context, but hopefully through the description those songs are laid out. Blessings, and enjoy the NF experience!
My dude, im just glad someone could put some things into context. My mom and dad were in a flipped reality (he was the addict, not her...) but ironically, she died of and over dose and he of a terrible car accident. Im not trying to make anyone sad, but its a similar trajectory. Jeez. Anywho, thanx again my friend. I will keep watching. Lastly, i dont know whqt you havent covered, but leave me alone is amazing. One more thank you and bryan is out.
If you haven't already heard it, I think Mansion should be next. "My mind is a house In trapped in, and it's lonely inside this mansion" (from the chorus).
Wow! So glad me and my wife found you! NEW SUB!! Amazing job with the NF tracks, we look forward to more! Just fyi...Track number 4 on the Therapy Session album is a song called How Could You Leave Us. I will just say you need to react to it! I would imagine someone already told you what it's about, but hopefully not. I will give you a heads up to bring a box of tissue though😁! If you get an opportunity we would really love to hear you react to Mansion, Wake Up, Paralyzed, and Therapy Session...for now anyway, lol. Keep up the outstanding work.
Thanks so much Scott! Mansion is coming out this coming week! Starting the NF journey has been awesome! I have tissues ready😊😂 thanks to you and your wife for watching👍
Binge watching your channel, this song is very special to me. This week was my 47th birthday the 21st, I have 4 birthdays in my family this week 20th uncle, 21 mine, 24th brother, 25th Christmas, 27th father. "The unexamined life is not worth living." Socrates
@@ReactionTherapyOfficial since no one as far as ai can see has recommended “therapy session” I’ll do it. But “ how could you leave us “ is definitely harder to listen to cause of how personal it is
I would love to be desensitized from the trauma but I also wouldn't yk I don't wanna loose myself I feel like my entire personality is built around my past and I don't wanna just let that go
Hello and I recently found your channel. I am a person who doesn't deal with therapy because I always reach a point where I just start saying what they want to hear just to get out faster and I am glad to see a therapist reacting to music because music is the tool I use for helping with my emotional issues. Violent games like call of duty and battlefield are how I deal with my anger issues. But if you would want another good song to check out it's called Save me and it's by an artist called jelly roll
How could you leave us? Is Track =4. You HAVE to react to it! Yes it is a tear jerker. You have to react to the video every Time I watch it I break down in tears.
Love this song! Again what song of his song isn't awesome? So relatable! It is only by my faith in God and his grace that I made it this far. (And music, long before I started seeking help at 23). Love your reactions. Keep them comin!😁
@@ReactionTherapyOfficial the song Sasha Sloan is featured on is called Only. Probably my 2nd or 3rd favorite song out of all his discography. An AMAZING song! Sorry...didn't mean to butt into the conversation but I noticed the title of the song wasn't given...and it's a GREAT request!!
Nf got me through a lot of stuff, his music gives me goosebumps because of how much I’ve been able to relate to him and his story.
Try having his name on top of it.
I got you bro 💜
Track 4 is How could you leave us. Amazing song but hard to get through. It’s about his mom and growing up with an addict
Thanks Crystal, I’m gonna react to it but sounds emotionally draining! I thought Nate was intense, but track #4 sounds even more intense!
@@ReactionTherapyOfficial it is the best song you'll never want to hear twice.

The Search Album
Why (released before the album) - You can't hear this song and miss the constant game of tug of war in his mind.
(Phil. 4:6-7)
Change - I could use this song every time a client walks through the door.
Clouds Mixtape
Just Like You - I love playing this for clients to help in normalizing their mental health struggle and to offer hope.
I have a couple suggestions for more intense NF reactions:
1) NF - Hate Myself
2) NF - Trauma
3) NF - Paralyzed
Great video btw
I really appreciate that you’re reviewing his music. Just stumbled across your channel.
Thanks Greg for watching and for commenting 😊👍
If you haven't already heard it, I think Mansion should be next. "My mind is a house In trapped in, and it's lonely inside this mansion" (from the chorus).
Thanks for the comment Erin! Definitely have “Mansion” on my list to do SOON!😊👍
Track number four is How could you leave us. My name is Four and my mom died when i was 10 so it really hits different.

@@ReactionTherapyOfficial since no one as far as ai can see has recommended “therapy session” I’ll do it.
But “ how could you leave us “ is definitely harder to listen to cause of how personal it is
I totallt relate to his comment about being around intoxicated people, hell just the smell of beer triggers me.😟
I would love to be desensitized from the trauma but I also wouldn't yk I don't wanna loose myself I feel like my entire personality is built around my past and I don't wanna just let that go
you should react to “Therapy Session” by him
Love your channel!
You should react to king iso, he’s on a mental health awareness mission and his music is great!
Anybody else feel like tearing up while hearing this?
Please react to NF - Remember This and NF - How Could You Leave Us
Thank you for what you do i love your stuff, wish i could have you as My therapist👌
Thanks for all of your comments Kelly, well said 😊👍
I would love to hear your take on "Drifting ". Use a lyric video because it gets fast.
Awesome, I’ll check out drifting asap. Thanks for the comment Melinda!😊👍

@@scottwatkins1431 I’ll definitely check out “only”, thanks for that!😊👍
Maaaaaan if you don't react to NF - hate myself, you're missing the mark that song would probably take you an hour to react to
