Yeah, and they still couldn't beat Wisconsin. McFadden's slight injury may have cost them the game. And the Ohio State game? It can be torment to be an Arkansas football fan. But they still have 1964. But 1965? They could have been official champs.

@mrcleandoesit I do too!! Especially since I was raised in a town as far south as you can go in Louisiana named Grand Isle. Heart of LSU nation.. but my dad was a Razorback fan, therefore so was I, as I watched the hogs win the NCAA championship (and cried the next year when they lost)
Granted to say, I'm a diehard.
So beating LSU is extra special to me.

my dad took me to a hooters to watch this game in little rock because he realized last minute it was about to come on. were not ready for it. so entertaining. that place was a god damned mad house, i couldnt believe we got a seat. there was a table full of purple and yellow wearin LSU fans and the shit talking was through the roof. people were buying them drinks and they were buying people drinks. was such an awesome vibe. hoping to never forget that. when the game ended, the hooters staff grabbed some razorback shirts and put them on the LSU fans, like 6 of these people, and cleared a path to the front door. yeah they got free razorback shirts, but they were shit talked and booed and cheered out of that place when that game ended.

Probably the most satisfying game I ever attended. Dad and I in our Razorback red, sitting in a sea of purple and gold.
After the interception that ended the game, it took a second or two to sink in that it was actually over, and Arkansas had won! There was one guy behind us going on the whole game about how there’s no way LSU loses to Arkansas. After it ended, I thought about the fact that I could be a dick about it, but nah, I decided to be nice. I just turned around and said good game, offered a handshake, which he did, but it was evident that he wasn’t thrilled lol. Oh well, I’d rather him have that memory of a Razorbacker, than the memory of one who was an ass.

SEC teams alone participated in no less than four instant classics (the game above, the Egg Bowl with MSU's 17 point 4th quarter comeback, Tennessee-Kentucky that went to 4 OT, and Clemson-South Carolina, which Clemson won on a walkoff field goal).

The final interception that sealed it, it took a couple seconds for me to sink in that it was actually over and get excited. It was one of the most satisfying feelings! I realized I could be an asshole and be all in their faces about it, especially to this guy sitting behind us who wasn’t talking trash to us but he was just being pretty obnoxious in general. Instead, I decided to turn around and say good game and offer to shake hands. I could tell he wasn’t super happy to do so but he did shake my hand. Another lady beside me said I’d be yelling and rubbing it in everyone’s faces if I were you, that I was being nice and a good sport. That’s exactly why I did it too. "The dream dies for LSU. Arkansas by 2 in the 3rd overtime."
What Verne said did NOT age well. LSU goes on to win the national title.

Will Cantrell Or if Malzahn was given control of the offense in 06. If so, Malzahn likely would have stayed at Arkansas and he'd still be coaching there. Malzahn is one of only two current coaches in the NCAA to beat Saban twice.

One of the best games I've ever seen. McFadden was unbelievable in this game. He carried the team on his back. He should've gotten the Heisman that year (Tebow got it), and Tebow should've gotten it the following year (Bradford got it). Lots of NFL talent on the field that day, for both sides, and Hillis/Jones/McFadden has to be one of the best backfields of all time.

  • @ryanexsus

We had two close losses that year but honestly... this team should have had a better record than they finished with. Not the best coaching job from Houston Nutt that year and I don't say that to slander the man.
