Are batting coaches overrated? Sure. But they matter more than Mike says they do. Like pitching coaches, they can pinpoint some tiny change in their swing (or windup) that can make a world of difference. You leave the guys alone who are doing great. But the new coach just may notice something with someone who is struggling, like a Donaldson, that can change things. Look at what happened to Gary Sanchez when he went to SD, and even Hicks in Baltimore. Mike overstates his case.

Just look at the starting lineup of the 1977 Yankees- Mickey Rivers a lefthanded speedster leading off, followed by right-handed Randolph another table setter like Rivers , probably the best clutch hitter in baseball Thurman Munson right-handed batting third with good pop as well, then three lefthanded power hitter in Jackson , Chambliss mostly a solid gap hitter also with good pop, then Nettles another power hitter, then Spencer, White and Dent a, lefty, switch hitter and right-handed batters respectively. A set lineup every day. With Pinella either filling in at various spots in tbe lineup usually 5 or 6th. Always a set line up. That was a very well constructed offensive team by any standard. Today it's a different lineup almost every day. Ridiculous

Trade 1: Josh Donaldson to SD for Matt Carpenter. Trade 2 Peraza, Cabrera, Severino to Cubs for Cody Bellinger and Marcus Stroman... 2 LH power bats and a SP who leads the NL in ERA. I know Carpenter is struggling in SD. But SD Park is gigantic. Put Matt Carpenter in Yankee Stadium and let it fly.
