  • It took me 30 years to understand that you can get amazing photos in clear sky conditions. In this video I take you with me to a sunrise micro adventure where I failed on my first attempt, but then I followed one of the tips I give in this video - and this led even to a masterpiece.

That was not a joke in the arriving scene, I really didn't see the trail in front of me, while having the video light in my eyes. I'm quite happy that there was not a drop-off or so :)
I'm currently out with my camera. I will answer all your comments later in the day. Thank you meanwhile,
    Christian

Great video Christian. The tips re blue sky and making the most of the composition was spot on. I love shooting in clear sky as it opens up a lot of scope for minimalist compositions. Thanks for sharing my friend, well done on putting the video together 👍🙏

Hi Bare, thank you so much, my friend. That means a lot 😊
Experimenting and making mistakes are indeed really important things to improve. The only problem is that we start to love our comfort zone, which offers us our "safe shots", but blocks our improvement. Making a mistake feels like making a step back, but it isn't. It's a step forward.
      Have a great Sunday,

a funny little thing about clear skies...i was photographing with a group of friends (a story, there, too: we started on Compuserve! practically "prehistoric" social media..."Western Gathering" group), we were shooting in the fall, on the East slope of the Sierra Nevada, and, while shooting Larch, our transplanted German friend said:"Sunlight is hideous!"
    well, not always; -)

Hi Lohi, oh yes, Compuserver is quite long ago :) And a funny story :)

Thanks a lot, Darren. I know, I know. You are blessed with dramatic weather all the time :) Really, when I'm looking at the weather maps for checking the global weather, I often think it would be nice to be up there, haha :)
      Nice greetings,

Very interesting problems compared to photography in Australia. Here intense blue sky, harsh landscape and harsh dull olive native plant foliage are the norm and the soft pastel and deep green colors of Northern Europe are harder to find. Even the introduced trees from northern countries and have softer leaves and softer green look harsher under our sky. Your landscape photos are very impressive.

Hi Philip, thanks a lot for your insights, my friend! Isn't it fantastic how different the landscape, the weather, and the light is, all over the planet?
Australia seems to be a fantastic area for landscape photography, but also the wildlife is awesome. I hope it will be possible for me one day, to visit your beautiful country!
Thank you for your kind comment and nice greetings,
      Christian

Great video again. I like both those shots. Can't say i like on over another myself. Those images younused while explaining your theory are all amazing. I've seen a lot of them already but to see them one after another shows how great of a photographer you are! Grt guido

Hi Guido, this is so kind, thank you so much, my friend :)
The first one is not a bad shot, actually. It is just that the left bottom corner doesn't make much sense. It is too messsy and I didn't have enough time to fix that. However, it was so enjoyable to photograph out there. And that's the most important thing, actually :)
      Nice greetings from the mountains,
      Christian

Thanks, good summary, I'm avoiding clear skies but I got some good pointers. Morning is the best time, I think, as the light is better than in the evening. But I seldom up early due to laziness

    • @christian.irmler
      @christian.irmler  Рік тому

Hi Thomas, oh yes, especially in clear sky conditions with high air pressure the air tends to be cleaner in the morning, what leads to a further and cleaner view. But if a hazy scene is wished, a photograph in the evening could also be an adventage :)
Thanks a lot for watching, my friend. See you,
      Christian

When I go out and have clear sky. I keep the sky to a minimum. Favorite time is SPRING. When leaves are out but not fully grown. The thiness of the leaves act like green lenses. A " pano" against a clear sky, with leaves bright in the sun. Lol I always the green against the blue. But if I were to wear green pants with sky blue shirt or top I would look a little clownish.

Hi Robert, thank you for your insights, my friend :) Interesting that you have even a favourite time for clear sky photography. And yes, the time when all the greens are coming out is just fantastic. Not long and we can enjoy this time again :)
Thanks a lot for watching my friend. See you,
      Christian
