the youtuber reads with rachel has said before that authors shouldn't read reviews on their work, and i fully agree with that. there's a huge difference between critique from an editor or fellow author and a review of an author's work as a product from a consumer. reviews are not meant to be nice or help the author; they're meant to give opinions that might help other readers decide whether or not the work is something they'd be interested in reading.
i agree with her idea of saying an agent or friend should select certain reviews for the author to read that will be constructive, whether positive or negative.

It’s so weird to demand people rate books highly. They presumably bought the book.. meaning they paid money to the author. THAT is the reward for the hard work. Authors don’t deserve good reviews just because they worked hard. It’s admirable, yes, but that doesn’t mean that their work has to be liked by everyone. I’ve spent weeks on drawings, months on paintings sometimes, and guess what- sometimes they still suck. And that’s fine.
Creative Endeavors, while they may be grueling, tiresome, and painful experience, are undertaken at one's own obligation. No one made you write a novel, or paint a picture, or compose a song. You did so for personal fulfillment and you believed it was good enough to share with the world. Again, nobody made you, and not everyone is going to appreciate it. If it's not good, say, "okay, I'll do better, but I'm going to keep doing it, because I love it," and you'll never again be afraid of a 1 star review. You'll be happy someone took the time to reply.
you are not your art. an attack on your art can feel like SHIT but it's not (always) an attack on you. the best you can do is be confident and let your rage make you better.
when you did the whole diet tribe on people saying on accident instead of by accident🎉 I know something, do you notice how so many UA-camrs don't know how to use prepositions properly? it is such a consistent problem across so many different types of content and so many different types of UA-camrs, but extremely shockingly consistently. they fail to understand the proper use of prepositions specifically. of course, all words are made up. English is BS and as long as you are making sense, it counts as talking right as far as I'm concerned. but it's a thing I can't help but notice constantly.

I’m a writer and I don’t want anybody’s participation stars 😂
you should not be reading reviews of your published works as an author actually
It’s so weird to demand people rate books highly. They presumably bought the book.. meaning they paid money to the author. THAT is the reward for the hard work. Authors don’t deserve good reviews just because they worked hard. It’s admirable, yes, but that doesn’t mean that their work has to be liked by everyone. I’ve spent weeks on drawings, months on paintings sometimes, and guess what- sometimes they still suck. And that’s fine.
on accident by accident 😊
I am not okay with 'on accident'.
Oh, this must be why boomers always complained about participation trophies…
Creative Endeavors, while they may be grueling, tiresome, and painful experience, are undertaken at one's own obligation. No one made you write a novel, or paint a picture, or compose a song. You did so for personal fulfillment and you believed it was good enough to share with the world. Again, nobody made you, and not everyone is going to appreciate it. If it's not good, say, "okay, I'll do better, but I'm going to keep doing it, because I love it," and you'll never again be afraid of a 1 star review. You'll be happy someone took the time to reply.
Yo what audio u use for ur intro
"Give authors 3 stars" Ill be an asshole then, I aint giving books like fourth wing any fuckin higher
you are not your art. an attack on your art can feel like SHIT but it's not (always) an attack on you. the best you can do is be confident and let your rage make you better.
when you did the whole diet tribe on people saying on accident instead of by accident🎉
I know something, do you notice how so many UA-camrs don't know how to use prepositions properly? it is such a consistent problem across so many different types of content and so many different types of UA-camrs, but extremely shockingly consistently. they fail to understand the proper use of prepositions specifically. of course, all words are made up. English is BS and as long as you are making sense, it counts as talking right as far as I'm concerned. but it's a thing I can't help but notice constantly.
