I am a recovering addict been clean from meth for 15 years. I am chickasaw Indian. I went to healthy lifestyles recovery in Ada Oklahoma. It is my tribes rehab. The only type of music we were able to listen to was flute music. Even now 15 years I have a bad day I get on my phone and listen to this beautiful music. This music helped save my life. They say music soothe the savage beast. All I know is it soothe the dope beast in me. I wish I could play. It saved my life. Thank you who play so beautifully. This is a great story how music helped you, and by extension others. "Hoo" is one of the great meditative sounds of the world. I would encourage anyone with an interest to find a flute and play. We all might never play as well as Jonny Lipford .. but we can play. The barrier to entry is low, one can get a plastic flute for under $30 USD. Of course the wood ones are much nicer. And if one is close to a tribe, perhaps they can recommend a flute. Also, The Pentatonic scale is forgiving. Life also has twists and turns. Carlos Nakai would never have been the awesome Native American flute player except for the accident that ruined his lip for trumpet playing. As he was wondering what to do, a friend gave him a flute. More recently a friend who lives near Haskell College was given a flute by a good friend after expressing interest.
i hope your doing well and you can play even if its just a simple scale uncovering one hole at a time you can play just breath and close your eyes beather into the flute one hole at a time just like one day at a time . believe in yourself you can do it

The Native flute has a range similar to human vocal capabilities. It can very closely duplicate the human emotion that goes with most songs and is a very emotive instrument. Thank you!

Jonny Lipford No Sir, I still love the NAF, but gave up making them several years ago... seems like all I do anymore is work. I did pick up Flint Knapping a couple of years ago and can knap out a pretty decent arrowhead now.
