Whatever style of music you want to play, following Fred's teaching for these chord melody arrangements will improve your understanding of harmony and chord progressions as well as your overall musicality. I am just working through his other DVD 'Jazz Chord Solos For Beginners' although I am no beginner, and I can't wait to try more. They are pretty quick to digest as the teaching is very clear and the arrangements are fairly simple but very effective.
sounds very similar to George Van Eps' arrangement, oddly enough. Sometimes keeping it simple means keeping it beautiful. I like how his harmonic movement here compliments the vocal line instead of impeding upon it. That's the point.
Think that's a single P90 PU Gibson ES175. There's a Herb Ellis Gibson a bit like this as well with a HB. But that one here looks like a pretty old Gibson from around the 50's
Your right it is from the at the 50's. I like the single rather then the double pickups. I had a 60's Guild X-175 that I sold last year. Just too heavy to hold.

No one appreciates this style anymore. Love it.
Fred this is sweet--you'll never go out of style--no as long as Joe Pass, Ella and Oscar Peterson are being heard--FAMILY tradition for sure
