Gorgeous ... brings tears .... now a very old man ... first season as ag driver was in a near-stock two-holer with a slipper tank in the "front seat" ... Franklin 225 tank engine!!! Later many thousand hours in a Bull ... Pratt 1340 in rice country. Hoss machine. No words describe the sadness of being away from that life now. Never a dull moment!! LOL Now THIS REALLY IS ... "flying"!! All else pales ....

Oh my goodness... in the early 1990s I had the enormous privelege of flying an identically painted Stearman, N59GA, now VH-PJS, in west Australia. It remains my favourite aircraft to fly over my 40-year career for so many reasons. I can only see two differences between the two aircraft: you have four ailerons, N59GA only had lower wing ailerons, and your prop CSU doesn't have counterweights, meaning if you get an oil pressure drop during aeros, the engine rpm will default to high.
It was the only aircraft that I would talk to when I polished it before putting it to bed, (when no one was looking). Every flight was a beautiful, special occasion.
N59 GA had a 300HP P&W Wasp Junior, i think that yours is the same, but yours makes more exhaust noise than I remember. She woudl use 60 LPH in the cruise, maybe 70 LPH during gentle aeros.
Thank you for this beautiful, marvellous video, showing the joy this type can bring to everyone who is involved!

Ah...to own a Stearman... My dad had a crop dusting operation in Homedale, Idaho in the early to mid 60s. I spent a few summers sweeping out hangars, chasing cattle off the runway, and washing down airplanes. The only other aircraft at the time that caught my eye as much as the Stearman was a competitor's Waco UPF. At the time our Stearmans were only some 20 years removed from their military trainer days. Guess I'm dating myself. I have twice now traveled back to Galesburg, Illinois for the annual Stearman Flyin to fly in a Stearman. It is quite an experience. Every American should at least once in their lifetime fly in an open cockpit biplane. The world looks so much better viewed thru the wings of a biplane.

Edward Henry Harriman Agreed, friend! I enjoyed your story because yesterday I bought an aerobatic ride in a Super Stearman. The pilot was quite friendly and we talked for a spell afterward. It came up that I'm a housekeeper and he half-jokingly asked if I'd like to clean his hangars and airplanes sometime. My eyes must have gotten as big around as saucers as I replied with a resounding "YES!" I am very much hoping that he wasn't just blowing sunshine you-know-where because it would be an HONOR to look after a Stearman in any capacity. We are only curators of history for a short time, keep 'em flying!

The video is three years old but to see a Stearman fly is beauty beyond words. As a kid growing up in the little town of Parkland in Washington there were several of them parked at our local field so I would always see them flying. To date, I have never been in an open cockpit plane. I tried to buy a ride but it was half my monthly SSI. It was either that or keep eating. It was a close thing though.

My son is special needs and he really likes antique airplanes ✈🛩🛫🛬 like that one he says they don't make them like that anymore but wishes they would with radial piston engines and no microprocessors just pure mechanics and with character and style.

This restoration, accomplished in 2015 by John Pike (flying) and his crew at Big Sky Stearman in Oregon, was commissioned by two sons as a hommage to their father, who owned, flew and hangared the plane for nearly 70 years in Kansas. A 1941 B75N1 (N2S-3), it spent WWII as a Navy trainer at NAS Bunker Hill (now Grissom AFB) in Peru, Indiana, until being sold as war-surplus in 1947. It is now flying in the high desert of New Mexico.

My dad and a couple of his buddies pooled some money and bought one in a crate after the war. I think he said it cost nine hundred dollars. They used it to fly into remote lakes in Oregon and Idaho in the 1950's to go fly fishing for huge native rainbow trout. I have some pictures of those fish. They would find a meadow near the lake and set down and go fishing. Pretty sure that wouldn't go over so well today.

Beautiful job on a beautiful airplane! Also excellent piloting (A real pilot doesn’t need no stinkin airspeed indicator). Gorgeous location too - if I’m going to go on and on 👍🏽👌🏽👍🏽👌🏽
Had to watch it again! Thanks for taking the time to do this 🍻

    Spectacular setting . . . Mount Rainier ? . . . challenging strip . . . .especially for first flight . . . but the cross-wind landing handled with finesse.

My uncle was a U S Army Air Corps Flight Instructor during WW 2 with the Rank of Warrant Officer. He taught raw recruits to fly in a Stearman and then they went on to further training, fighters, bombers, etc.

No airspeed indicator didn’t affect his landing in the least. It was perfect. Airspeed indicators are over rated. A good pilot can land just fine without it.
