I would love a planning video to see how you will work through those wonderful resources! How much time you spend on different subjects and how long your school day is.

I have a number of planning videos coming ... I will definitely share our schedule once we have worked it out a bit, maybe September :)

I am 33, and I remember rushing home after school to watch Libertys kids! I loved it. I can't wait to share it with my kids too.

Same! We rented a DVD from the library of liberty kids and my kids loved it, the episode on the constitution. They asked for it multiple times.

Since you are a scientist, I'm curious to hear your review of science D. I've watched a few reviews on YT that said it was not a great curriculum. I love all your videos and I'm new to Sonlight this year! ❤

Love the idea of stretching out American history to 2 years for your younger kiddos, as well. 👍

It makes so much sense with just how things were lining out with my kiddos :)

Well nowI am feeling even better about the route I chose! You are doing exactly what I am with my kids! I am doing HBL D with my 4th and 5th graders and the little kids Exploring Amrican History with my 1st and second graders. and decided to combine them just like you are. Iam actually sorrows how many of the things you said you were what we are doing. We are homeschooling through the summer lightly so I actually already started a few weeks ago and it's going great! We are doing the science as well and Love it! ❤️

My son read Sweep and he really liked it! Also, my kiddos all loved Liberty's Kid and I personally learned so much from it lol

We loved level D! My son loved every reader. Yellow Spot Sun has some literature based art lessons for some of the readers included in D and E. Blackbird Pond and By the Great Horn Spoon for next year. She also has history themed art lessons for families.
Level E does have you memorize the states via song.

You’re making me sweat just listening to all you have planned. You must spend your whole day reading. We did parts of level D this year, and my son started complaining if I tried to read more than 10 pages. Try not to overwhelm yourself too much. ❤

Haha, I know it sounds like a lot - but I really do hold things loosely, I do better having pre-thought out resources for when we might need a break :)

You always get me so excited about Sonlight. I think we may try their science this year. I would do history as well, but we already have a history curriculum that we enjoy and need to finish. But definitely going to try their HBL when we finish with what we have.

Election units go so well with Early American. But in 4 years they may get more out of it. My children will be 6th and 8th and we aren’t studying American history this year, so our morning time will include elections and constitution. My kids LOVED Liberty Kids. And I added in state history to D and states and capitals to E. My reason is that we are in California and pairs well with the end of D and beginning of E, and I kind of used the SL resources on westward expansion then went into CA history. But we didn’t really cover the state symbols until we did our 50 states study. You have so many great and familiar resources there. I loved this period in our homeschool. It was the end of our combining my children and I have so many great memories. Enjoy the coming school year.

Also, for poetry, use the website for the digital recordings. My kids liked listening to the poems because they are more theatrical than me.

If you are okay with screens, there is a free Stack the States app which is how my 6 year old learned all her states.
    Also, we loved Liberty’s Kids!

I really enjoyed the book George vs. George, but you’ll likely want to edit the page about the battles between American militia and British-siding Native American tribes for younger kids, as it’s gruesome. (All battles are gruesome, but the rest of this book was quite gentle and vague compared to that page.) Sonlight probably has a note in the guide, but wanted to give a heads up if you haven’t read that one yet.

Definitely pre watch and pre listen to Hamilton. I wouldn’t recommend for children.

With science D, are you planning to read aloud the science books for your daughter and then fill in the activity sheets independently like your son? We finished Science B last month and I have C ready to start after our summer, they look really interesting and I don’t think I want to miss them, so I am thinking of still reading them to my boys, and I also find my 11 year old always tends to scan for information to fill in questions, he does this with some Evan moor comprehension books, so I don’t want him also missing great parts by doing this. Your plans for history sounds amazing and I’m sure it will be a super interesting study esp with the adding of things to watch.

      @sciencemama  3 місяці тому

I'm still not sure with my daughter - I will probably do a bit of both or follow her lead on whether she is ready to do the sheets independently!

We break it up but I would say all the reading adds up to probably an hour and a half 🤷🏼‍♀️
