I have to admit. India is one big powerhouse of badminton. In fact, other former British colonies including Malaysia and Singapore are badminton powerhouses. I realized that various South Asian and Far Eastern countries who are LHT are interested in badminton for many years. Other than India, Malaysia and Singapore, that also includes Indonesia, Thailand, and Japan.

@@tjh12336, but China is RHT, except for Hong Kong and Macau which are both LHT. Speaking of Hong Kong, they are interested in badminton as well. As for Macau, I guess not quite.

This is the reference from encyclopedia Brittanica that Wikipedia also repeats: BATTLEDORE AND SHUTTLECOCK, a game played by two persons with small rackets, called battledores, made of parchment or rows of gut stretched across wooden frames, and shuttlecocks, made of a base of some light material, like cork, with trimmed feathers fixed round the top. The object of the players is to bat the shuttlecock from one to the other as many times as possible without allowing it to fall to the ground. There are Greek drawings extant representing a game almost identical with battledore and shuttlecock, and it has been popular in China, Japan, India and Siam for at least 2000 years. In Europe it has been played by children for centuries. A further development is Badminton.

what about google and wiki says that the roots of the sport can be traced to ancient India, Greece and China from about 2000 years ago, popularised by British during 19th century?

It is because of the ministry of sports that the number of athletes have doubled in the last few years, and the brilliant performance in the Paralympics. The atheletes said this themselves. The problem is the lack of a sports culture wihtin the people at school level wihtout which however kuch the govt wants, we won't be able to hone athletes
