  • Time for the first build update on the Top Secret Toyota Supra GT300 in 1/24 scale by Alpha Model. I started working on the body, getting everything ready to airbrush the required colours. Several body modifications were done before airbrushing the primer, so watch the video and have a look at all the preparations I did.

      Thanks ☺️ For the gold I used Top Secret specific paint from Zero Paints airbrushed over white. I'm glad you're seeing it as Top Secret as that means I did a good job getting the colour as close as possible 🙂 Thanks again 👍🏼

    Not sure how I missed this when it came out last week, but this paint job turned out fantastic. Zero Paints sure got that gold right. Can't wait to see it with all the decals.

    scribing is so hard for me. i always deviate from the lines and cut the bodyup. do you have any tips for scribing?

    • @KarlScaleModeling
      @KarlScaleModeling  4 місяці тому +1

      Believe me.. usually I always deviate a little too! In fact, while scribing the putty is always on the desk next to me 🙂 The Supra was the first where I didn't need it. As for tips, I would say do it very patiently, no rush. And be sure to have a good sharp scriber. For smaller parts, like a fuel cap, I always use a pointed scriber (seen in video also). The hook is much easier to run through in tighter areas. I'll try to make a tutorial in the near future about this ☺️ Hope that helps 👍🏼

    Thank you for this video Karl, your patient work inspires me. How much of the top secret base paint did you use for the body? 1/4 bottle? Whole bottle? The layers look nice and thin.

      Thank you James, that's very appreciated ☺️ I think I used around 25ml of the 60ml zero paints jar I had. And I airbrushed the body, roll cage, rear strut bar, door mirrors, door handles, hood washers and rivets! Not bad at all! 😀 I airbrushed around 4 mist coats, then the final heavier coat seen in the video. Thanks again for your support and help my friend 👍🏼👍🏼

    I like your scriber, where can I get one?

    • @KarlScaleModeling
      @KarlScaleModeling  4 місяці тому

      Hello there, my scriber was bought from AliExpress. The handle and 0.2mm hook need to be bought separately and both of them are Dspiae. Not sure if there are other places that have these in stock, but AliExpress still has them available. Hope that helps 🙂👍🏼

    Hello Karl, thanks for sharing your build, great job so far!! I am going to start my Supra, definitely your videos will be my inspiration :)
    Just a question: I'm struggling a lot to find the correct reference pics for the interiors, do you have any link to share please?
    Thank you!

      Hello Alfredo ☺️ Thank you very much for your kind words about my work, that's very appreciated. Hopefully I'll have a new Supra video next week 👍🏼
      That's great knowing you'll start working on yours, I'm sure you'll enjoy the build.
      To be honest I didn't find much reference images of the real car interior. This one from speedhunters was the best I found. There are also some UA-cam videos of it where I took some screenshots which might become helpful. You have to be careful that it's the original one from Top Secret on UA-cam though, because there are several replicas too. This is the link, although I'm sure you already found this one ☺️ Enjoy yours Alfredo 👍🏼

      @@KarlScaleModeling Hi Karl, thanks for your swift reply!
      I recognise everything that you wrote in your comment: a lot of replicas and it’s hard to find the original one.
      And indeed, the speedhunter pics seem to be the best ones at the moment, although I was also confused there, because of different hood and steering wheel 😊
      It would be interesting to know which references used alpha model to make the kit…

    • @KarlScaleModeling
      @KarlScaleModeling  3 місяці тому +1

      Yes the dash instrument panel and steering wheel are not the same as shown on the SpeedHunters pictures. One of the replicas has the same steering as the kit, but the dash gauges are still different. I'm guessing that Alpha simply supplied the same dash and steering as their other Supra kit, the Ridox version. They didn't bother to update those 2 items! I still need to do the interior, but I'm planning to use the kit pieces to be honest. They won't be much visible. Even the roll cage is not correct as in the real one it goes through the side panels in the rear, not through the seat as the kit!! That's something I will work on though ☺️ I also found this video which shows briefly the interior and it's exactly as shown in the SpeedHunters pictures 🙂

      You're welcome Alfredo, I'm trying to point out the differences I noticed too. If you take a look at this video at exactly 39:00 you can see how the roll cage enters the side panels at the rear. Enjoy ☺️

    Hi,
    Could you tell me what brand of primer, basecolor and clear you use?
    Thank you.

    • @KarlScaleModeling
      @KarlScaleModeling  4 місяці тому +1

      Hello Luca, yes of course.
      First I applied automotive 2K primer (Mipa). Then I airbrushed a layer of white primer (Firescale FSC014). This was followed by a Zero Paints ZP-1042 top secret gold. Finally airbrushed 2K clear (automotive Mipa brand).
      Hope that helps 😊

    • @lucamicalicapparelli4825
      @lucamicalicapparelli4825 4 місяці тому +1

      @@KarlScaleModeling OK thank you. I tried a few times with 2K clearcoats, but I got a lot of orange peel or too much thickness and accumulation in the edges, to the point of covering too much detail. I haven't yet found the right formula to have a mirror surface with 2K clearcoat. Maybe the temperature and humidity in my area also affect it. Is the Mipa one thin and easy to give? Could you tell me the product code if there are several and explain your procedure, also telling me which airbrush you use?
      Also, why don't you paint directly over the 2K primer, but do a coat of firescale primer?
      Thank you.

    • @KarlScaleModeling
      @KarlScaleModeling  4 місяці тому +1

      2K clear takes time to get the right formula for your setup. It is always the 2:1 (clear:hardener) ratio then everyone adds thinner according to their airbrush and preferred pressure. Orange peel might be coming from having too little thinner, too little pressure or the surface beneath is not smooth enough. 2K clear always lays out best on a nice smooth surface. My airbrush is an Iwata Revolution 0.5mm and I airbrush 2K clear at 2.0bar pressure. Usually my mixture is 2:1:1 where I add thinner at the same quantity as hardener. The Mipa is nothing special, a liter of automotive clear is what I have however I believe all 2K clears work the same as long as you master the best ratios of paint and air quantity depending on your setup.
      I don't believe temperature and humidity affects the 2K clear much. I airbrush in a room on the roof of our home, where at winter it gets around 10degC with sometimes 90%+ humidity.. and in summer its 35degC + with less than 30% humidity. I always airbrushed clear when required without taking care of the conditions and never had problems. Applying too much clear is something you need to learn to avoid. 2K clear is amazing, but you need some practice to learn your best techniques as mentioned before.
      I usually airbrush the colour directly over the 2K primer (after sanding it smooth as seen in this video). However since this Supra needed to be finished in a particular gold, I prefer airbrushing it onto a white primer (2K primer is grey). That's the only reason why.
      Hope that helps Luca 👍🏼👍🏼
