So, which is better - the OnePlus Open or the Z Fold 5?
It boils down to just one question. Do you want the S Pen? If you want the ability to be able to write on the screen using a stylus that’s super optimized for smooth writing experience, then the Z Fold 5 is the only phone you can go. It’s still very much a flagship phone with high end specifications, lives in the enhanced Samsung ecosystem and comes with Samsung’s credibility as well. However, if you just compare the specs, the OnePlus Open does outperform in pretty much all aspects.

Bro, the OnePlus Open has pen support. It's all over UA-cam that the Oppo pen is compatible with the OnePlus Open. So that aspect is taken care of. I'm a Samsung fan boy but I must confess that the OnePlus Open is better than the Z Fold 5
It's not available in the US genius it has to be imported and is very expensive

Ever since Samsung started the fold phones, the major deal breaker for me was the front screen being narrow, given that most work would be done on that despite being a fold phone so I never bought one.
That problem has been solved by the one plus open, as they have given a decent sized front display as well. I am loving my new phone

@@mathurnikku One Plus Open, I owned a S21 ultra and switched to Z Fold 5 and that narrow screen does bother me alot in certain apps, I switched to One Plus Open and wow definitely a huge difference even if you pick the Honor Magic V2 or One Plus Open for sure are better overall. Wireless charging and S-Pen those things I personally don't need I'm a heavy phone user especially when it comes down to watching/cosuming content Netflix, UA-cam, Twitch and watching sports on IPTV is mindblowing.
The OnePlus Open has pen support for both the outer and inner screens. It works with the Oppo pen.
But where do you get that? OP should have had it as an accessory

@@dorothy135 samsung doesn't provide the pen with the phone either. Maybe with the Fold 6 it will be interal. The dimensions of the Fold 5 pen are already slim enough to be stored inside a phone. I think they tried with the 5 and gave up
Great video as always. Just a small feedback, when you are making the speaker comparison, please make the sound icon next to the phone like 50x bigger. Because it's not noticeable when watching on a phone 😅

But these are my response to some of the facts.
1. 2:47 wireless charging shouldn't really be a problem when the phone can charge at 67W. The phone literally gets from 0 - 100% in less than an hour. I see a lot of youtubers try to sell this as a whole issue when it's really not.
2. 2:50 i feel the camera bump adds character to the phone, it makes it stand out
3. The OnePlus Open actually works with the Oppo pen. But i think they should have made it clear to the public.

You can use the *Oppo stylus* to write on the front and inside screens on the *OnePlus Open* or *Oppo Find N3 Fold* (you mentioned you cannot).
I'm very impressed by the cameras. At last the Hasselblad partnership paid off
Very impressed myself. The color grading makes the pictures more natural, when measured against Samsung’ software. Also, camera torch is a nice touch!
Recently went to Japan and used my s22 ultra. All the fine beautiful red autumn leaves got processed to hell and looks like ass zoomed in. These pictures are beautiful
Fold5 still wins for me. Spen. DEX. OneUI, better applications, GoodLock, better aspect ratio, more 4:3 than 1:1. Better ecosystem: Watch 6 Classic, Buds, SmartThings etc. Better pre- and post-sales support, greater durability (there are already a lot of Opens with cracked screens on yt). Disadvantages that no one talks about: You can't open Open at a larger angle because it opens up on its own, you can't set the width of open applications, you can't set a different arrangement of icons and widgets on the internal screen. If I wanted a phone with a wide screen, I would buy Ultra. Folders shoud be used by opening them, not on the cover.

Am using both fold 5 and one plus ..one plus is way better ....yes samsung has advantages over the one + but its isn't that good enough ..only the fold 6 might be able to compete with it

However, I'd argue...
- wireless charging is irrelevant, it's slow and hasn't improved since it was introduced
- water resistance rating... I'm sorry but fully submerging an almost $2K device is stupid regardless of the rating. Warranties also don't support the rating of those that are ipx8
- pen support is there... If your argument is easy access to obtaining the pen ok. But your delivery of no support is just wrong. And it also supports the pen on both displays....

I've had mine for a couple of days now, I've been thrilled with it, the screen quality, the lack of crease (coming from Pixel Fold) The cameras are great as well, even up to 10x zoom I've found. I've been more impressed than the pixel fold. The only downsides are moving objects in low light, there can be some shutter lag, hopefully that will be addressed in firmware, although there is an action mode. I have seen the Oppo Find N3 stylus work fine in other videos. I would be interested to try my self!
Do you see any issues with the folding screen? That's what I'm most worried about. Samsung had issues in the beginning and MKBHD's screen is already showing issues...
@@sayididit2930 You buy the 2 years accidental damage + screen protection plan and you're good. In two years minus one day if you don't have any trouble, just break it and have a new one

You should add up some bgm to your videos at a very low volume. It feels a bit odd without any music running behind your voice. Most tech youtubers do that for the same reason.

I still think having a bigger screen on the outer display would defeat the purpose of having a foldable phone in the first place. You would do 90% of the task in the outer display itself. I remember when I had the fold 3 I always used the inner display to do most of the daily task like checking email's or stockmarket or web browsing or even social media apps like insta and youtube. The narrow display like the one in fold 5 makes more sense.
Still, Oneplus did a wonderful job with the Open considering its their first foldable phone.
At least you have a choice to use it however on the OnePlus. The z fold can only be used opened.

@@WUTaNIGGAiAM It's outer display should have been slightly more wider but not as wider as the Oneplus. You could do all the task using the outer display of the fold 5 as well. But like I said I would rather use 80-90 % of my screen time on the inner display as I literally paid money to use the bigger screen!
why would it defeat the purpose of having folding phone? with z fold you are forced to use inner display even if you don't really want to use it but with oneplus you got free option whether to use it unfolded or folded. In z fold case yes you tend to use the inner more, but why would you have yourself "forced" to do something when you can have more options? Furthermore i think the ones buying folding phone shouldn't really have the mindset "oh i have to use it unfolded 99% of time so that my money is not wasted" but instead "well i buy it for when i want or have the need to use bigger display"
@@Steve-hp5cf With the Z Fold 5 you are not forced to use the inner display every time. You can easily get things done with the outer display as well. Granted its narrower but thats what it makes great as you actually make use of both the screens. I am not saying the One Plus open is bad phone, the outer display being wider is great for some people, but I would rather have the screen of Fold 5 (Slightly wider would be appreciated) over the Open. Also the major factor one's buying a folding phone is the inner display, hence most of them would rather prefer to use the inner display. Otherwise you can simply buy a slab phone and get it over with.
What scares me are the various different bugs shown by some youtubers like missing pixels or foldable screen collapsing on itself

Glad you like it. I went from a Fold 3 to the OnePlus Open and it's a light-years better than the Z Fold. More RAM, more internal storage, better battery life, faster wired charging, for $300 less than the Fold 5. Cherry on top is Oxygen OS which is very close to stock android. I can't stand to see all of Samsungs bloatware (that you can't remove) and One UI sucks.
@@alexlopez2995 oh my dude, one ui is the reason I use samsung. I come from using nexus 4, oneplus one running custom roms (cyanogen most of the time) and some shit xiaomis and note10 was the first phone and didn't feel the need to install a custom os, because the quality of the "bloatware" apps and the customization options were more than good enough. And it only got better with the fold 5

I upgraded from a OnePlus 10Pro and I was SHOCKED with how light it was. What do you mean it's heavy, this is my first foldable and I've had 3 OP devices prior, and my partner has the Samsung Z flip 5 and the Open is lighter than her flip and there is also the ability to pair a stylus to the OnePlus open. I just finished week 1 of owning the Open

Good video Bit you are wrong in one case. You can use the oppo pen/stylus that was released with the oppo find n2. It's full compatible with OnePlus open. Hope I could've helped. 🖊️ 🖋️
I wanna ask one thing abt aspect ratio when u open it into bigger display then will those videos stream full screen like tabs or black screen appears at edges ??? Or is aspect ratio modifiable ??
You will have black bars above/below your video. If it's a usual 16:9 video, your bars will be narrower than when watching something with the resolution of a feature film, for example. If you think the bulk of your videos will be 16:9 resolution, I think it's totally worth it, even with the bars.

The One Plus Open DOES have a pen. The Oppo Pen works on it. You just have to import the pen internationally but a 2-week wait isn't bad.

Does it miss receiving any phone calls like a lot of people are complaining about the Google fold. Which is the same problem I had with the Samsung fold 2. My buddy had with the Samsung fold 3. And it stayed for years until it disappeared when they release the fold 5. Which is really weird that these old phones started working better once the newest phone was released , had to wait years for this.

The reason they nailed the cameras is...well...Oppo 😆 that's the entire reason why Oneplus have been successful with their "first" foldable. I'm curious as to how much input Oneplus even had in the phone considering it's literally a rebranded Oppo. Ive just managed to grab one for £1300 so im curious to check it out, not 100% ill be keeping it yet but at least wanna try it especially due to having that larger cover display. I've gone for the fake leather version mainly because of the matte sides, I HATE glossy mental on phones, drives me mad lol
S Pen. Look in to this because the open does have stylus compatibility.
Also, the Nord 3 has three years android updates and four years security updates.
Now that the 1+12 is out a lot of people are probably gonna be wanting to go after it but if you already have the OnePlus open, you’re not gaining anything by buying the 12.
If one plus had sold the 24 GB one TB version outside of China then it would probably be you know worth putting the money out for it but the version released outside of China the specs aren’t any better than the OnePlus open has plus the one post open has the was at 7 1/2 inch inside screen the one +12 doesn’t and seriously. For the neutered version of the OnePlus 12 that one plus has released worldwide if you’ve got a OnePlus 11 and even a OnePlus 10 pro there’s really no sense in buying the 12 unless you just have to have that zoom camera

Awesome video. Its been 3 months I am using one plus open and the performance has already gone down. The phonr has become much slower, whatsapp takes a lot of time to open. Other than whatsapp, all apps works fine. Anyone facing similar issue?
I have never used my phone's speakers for content since 2008. Even if I am alone, I would rather go for headphones. Do people actually use their phone's speakers for music or videos?

The s pen on the z fold phones doesn't work on the cover screen, which almost defeats the purpose. Every time I'm trying to write down a quick note like on the old Galaxy Note phones where you could write on the screen while it's off, I'm reminded that i have to open the phone just to take a quick note, so i just end up not using the pen. The one plus open's pen works on both screens! Samsung is really getting lazy

Some ppl do not understand that it is not a unfoldable phone, in fact it is a foldable tablet. Most of the time it should stay open. It is better for inner screen. It is a main position for the device. So, unfolded Samsung is easier to use.
I noticed that youtube videos have big black bars because of the square display.

Yes, you can resize it to fill whole display but square aspect makes it crop to much, it would be better if you could manuały resize video like in youtube app or vlc video player. Second solution is to use screen size and set netflix to 4:3 , but you end up with gray bars, Oneplus !!!! Why gray ? 😭
How is the battery life and heating??
Design problems apart its the best phone... Wireless charging is like slow charging with a cable because wireless charging name itself is misleading.... Because wireless means u can do it even if its in ur pocket.... Hope u get me.... So better to have a wired charging & with that insane speed u aren't spending time in charging so it's ok not to have wireless charging

How's the battery life compared with galaxy fold 5?
I'm using OnePlus open since a month and now I've got greenline issue on foldable display. Company support is very slow
And this is why i like fold 5 with the narrower front screen design its good for a day to day work single hand . And when you want to go big unfold it . If you have a fdable phone with same front size as any phone then whats the point that aint versitility to me. It aint unique either.

looks like its 5 grams heavier then my current phone, i dont think ill notice it (currently got a rog phone 5 but the open is on the way)
Coming from s22 ultra these r my observations:
1. Camera still very unstable at low lights
2 . Form factor and the size is the best I have ever used
3. Battery is a tank. It drains much slower than any samsung phone.
4. Charges superfast. It can charge completely in an hour
5. Fold is amazing. It covers best of both worlds of tab and phone
6. I like the interface better than samsung But that is more of a personal choice.
7. Sound is the best used so far as mentioned.
8. The biggest challenge is to find a good cover for protection. The stock cover looks good but pops out when the phone falls.
9.Weight is almost similar to s22 ultra but easier to pocket due to size.
10.Camera bump actually helps to hold the phone better
12. Besides the unstable camera under low light everything seems perfect.
13.As for IP rating I won't take a 1.5 L phone near water anyways😊
14. Durability is something we all have to wait for. If this stays the way it is I will be a one plus open loyalist now.
A year from now this phone will be worth squat on a trade in or to sell outright.

The OnePlus Open outclasses the Fold 5. You said it yourself, it out specs the Fold 5 while also being $300 cheaper. End of discussion right there. OnePlus nailed it with the Open and Samsung continues to be complacent. Maybe now that they have competition, they'll actually try with the Fold 6 and drop the price.
If oneplus takes out such looking non folding smartphone with same design and same camera with ip68 rating , it surely will be my next phone❤
