  • I began looking into when my drum set was built, I was completely surprised by the findings! Hint... It's not new!

    I bought my Swingstar in 83 when I was 18. Still have it, but I got a new kit about a month ago. TAMA 7 piece Superstar in Midnight Gold. Love it! Best sounding drums I have ever played and I have played a lot of them.

      That's great, I was surprised to hear how good they sound giving the fact they are 37 years old. Looks a little worse for wear, but they still produce great sound.

      @@adventuresofvossman2549 Mine are 1982 Swingstars. They have the red TAMA T badge 82-56304 made in Japan. They are made better than the new Superstar Classics that I just got. The hoops are heavier. They don't sound as good though.

      @@rwbz28 Like I said in the video, I'm surprised at how well they have held up, even after being stored away in a garage for nearly 4 years. I'd like to get them restored, more so the hoops which have some rust spots and maybe re-shelled. One day I'll retire them, perhaps do something creative with them

    Your kit is from the 2001-2005 era.
    Look at the Tama catalog archive.

      Yeah they don't have the The T badge. Mine are 1982 with the red T badge 82-56304 made in Japan. I bought them new in 82 on the layaway plan when I was 18. Got um paid off in 83. Just now bought a new 7 piece shell pack Superstar Classic in Midnight Gold. They have the old T badge but its black and made in Gina.🤣 Not made as good but sound great!

    I had the same kit in same color. Same hardware. It’s from late 90s - early 2000 period

      I'm sure you're right. It's just the weird stock number on the bass drum that matches much earlier models by way of the ending number and the amount of numbers. Either way, it's still an older drum kit lol

    Hello, thanks for the video. I bought a swingstar today from a music school. My set is made in Taiwan and my serial number is 214559. Does your serial number have 84 in it? Could you point me to the forum you found online? Thanks!

      @adventuresofvossman2549  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, the last two. From the research I did, 1982-84 had 4-5 serial numbers with the last two being the year of manufacture. After 1984 the serial number went to 6 numbers with it being very hard to track since they didn't keep records. The best way is to look at the lug holders and the logo from what I read. But yours is definitely after 1984

    are these Made in Taiwan ROC as good as the japan ones, what is the difference?is it worth buying?

      To be honest I'm not sure where they were made. I will say this... For the $300 I bought them for in 2006 from a used music shop, and they are still rocking out the jams for me... I'd say they are worth it. As long as the shells are still good, they sound great.

    If you take care of your kit. In proper storage. They should last forever. I had a kit for 15 years. That sounded great.

      I think as long as the shells stay laminated and un warped they will sound good. A good set of drums heads and proper tuning will go a long way
